I'm new to the game and am a pretty poor ball striker. Sometimes i like to play pars 3s with the mentality that it's a par 4. If it's say.... a 170 yard par 3 I would take a pitching wedge and leave a 56 shot in to putt for par. I pretty comfortable with my wedges and not so much with my 5 or 6 iron. I would rather not risk a shank off the tee using a club I'm not fully comfortable hitting yet.
Played my local par 3 yesterday and for the first time tried half swinging and low angle for a couple of holes and it worked out well. I’m about to play it again lol hence why I’m here to get my mind in the game. If I had avoided that triple bogey 4th hole I might have been able to par. Wish me luck

12 hcap from UK - my approach is usually find the centre/front of green - rarely flag hunting and soft draw - on the dangerous hole I play the punch with higher club - recent subscriber - like the presentation 👍
Just played my local links course today here at the home of golf on the east coast of Scotland. Played the par 4s great but hitting into a strong wind off the north sea was a nightmare on a particular par 3. (9th hole ashludie golf links)

I live in Devon England, most of the clubs I play have an easy par 3 to start, get on the course then most par 3 will punish short.
How do you set up you T shot? Off the deck, low T or a taller T? Rest the club head or hover it? What helps to end up where you're aiming?? I am a 12 HC, and par three holes are the weakest part of my game.... So frustrating...

On par 3 always got me in trouble. Long shot, so pw/pw for a par. Better than a lost ball and an 8
Can you do a vidoe on bunker shot and how to get out of them ? I am really bad with bunkers. That will be well appreciated.

Great strategy options indeed. Although I don’t necessarily tend to go pin hunting on Pat 3’s, I do usually tend to opt for aplicable club for given yardage. However, I also know that take slightly more club while swinging less hard and trying to punch a shot to given yardage, is usually a much better options. Another great video and info.
Now that is the beauty of golf. This is useful if you play the same course and trying to lower or place a handicap for tournament play.
My strategy on P3 is get on the green! Can't understand why I can hit a green from 120 to 160 yards when I'm in a fairway, but stand me on a tee at a P3 with the same distance, and all kinds of things can happen. It's a mental thing that I work at getting over. JM2C

I always want to be below the hole or at most pin high. 3s I’m trying to par not really get suckered into birdies. Depends on trouble though. Got one at the club water front water back but all on left. 135 to back. 135-140 is my pw but I’ll go 9 and right 3/4 swing I’m just trying to go over water if it’s long ok no biggie. Other is 140 to back 109 to front I’m going 56 teed up can catch front if over cooked I’m middle, trouble left trap at about 119 it takes 52 out because can catch it if it’s pulled. If I’m short I’m below the hole can chip and get out of there. I will go 52 if pins at the back. I’ve started playing to my second shot realized I’d usually miss in a certain spot but be above the hole then I’m missing the putt and going back uphill to my 3rd shot putt so I’m trying to just cut out the next miss
It’s different strokes for different folks. Experiment with your clubs, and keep an open mind.
I have problems with par 3s lately. It's becoming an illness lol. Like the ideas.
I think the knock down shot is good when it is windy!! Otherwise I would use the club for the yardage!!

Yup. My typical strategy is what you said...it's 178 yards, that's a hard 7 iron. I pull it out, swing to hard and balloon it coming up short.
Par 3 is the easiest to play. Par 5 is the hardest. Good to practice other skill techniques. Good game for mature millenials and growing families to play and have fun, exercise, and appreciate urban gardens. Easier than other organized sport leagues. NHL, Tennis, PGA, European Tour, soccer or MLB
Always hit a club less but hard for back pins. For short pins hit a club more but controlled. This way on a bad swing you will always be middle of the green!

My strategy for par 3. Ok you've screwed up this comp already so go for the Nearest the Pin and failing that at all costs get a 2 or face going home having achieved NOTHING (again) 😳

@@invisaman75 that's the only tip that exists. No other way to see it. Works for other hazards too.
What they said.... Focus on, "the shoot you're trying to make, the target". NOT on what you don't want to do. The mind does not register the negative. The mind just goes where you are focused.
@@jayscott1380 It is all about focus. I am not worried about trouble unless I am in it! This works for golf and life.

I've lost so many balls on this hole
I usually get on the green off the tee then 5 putt and throw my putter into the woods. Definitely would NOT recommend this strategy
