I have struggled with par 3's over the years. This season i started teeing it up lower and trying to hit low tarrif shots. It has made such a difference!
You probably dont give a shit but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my account password. I love any tricks you can give me
@Dariel Lian I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I always use a broken tee. It gives it a slight bit of height but it's not so high as to hit the top part of the face. It also helps for hitting the center of the face. For me anyway
Great tips as usual matt. I think I used to underestimate the par3s but after developing an occasional shank with my irons, a par3 strikes fear in to me 🙄🙄
I like your videos. Very helpful as a beginner. Just enough information to make me remember it without going into too much depth and making me get bored. 🍻
Great video, saw you on videos with Peter and Rick, I'm newly following them and now you, I think it's a great service you provide and you all make it very enjoyable and entertaining while at the same time giving proper and accurate information, thank you and looking forward to watching all your videos in the coming weeks,
I specialise in taking 5 shots on par 3s. Really useful video...but what was distracting you to your right? I did some media training in the dim and distant past. Rule number 1...dont look away from the lens! This is why many politicians look shifty...(and they may well be). Looking forward to getting on the course and practicing these tips. Good work!
Great video! Par 5s and par 3s are my favorite. Jack Nicklaus always said that he rarely went after the flags on par 3s because center of green was always the safe shot. Loving the tips and would enjoy a video on selecting a PGA pro to learn from. Currently I am 0-3 as I have gotten good information from them but never want to work with them again due to their personality.
just spend some time researching one, probably some who has a presence online that you can see what they are like and what their personality is like, before you go to them.
I learned when I first started to play, Par 3's are always the hardest. I've also always aim for the big open spot not the flag pole. Yes, would like to be as close as possible but, easier to putt off the green than it is the higher grass. As for using "tee's", it depends on how I want my shot to be, for me, I tend to have a heavier club, tee up high, have the ball drop almost straight down if I have to go for a "tight" shot. Am I correct, doubtful but, it works for me, may not work for you or others and vice versa. I'll start trying to lower my tee's from now and see what I get. Great video, cheers :)
This is a rarely discussed aspect of course strategy for some reason, so this is great advice. Nothing upsets a golfers equilibrium like taking a four or five on a "simple par 3". Good video Matt (and well struck!).
Hi Matt. I enjoy your videos but would you agree that a high handicapper might be better always aiming for the centre of the green ,allowing for wind etc?
Excellent video as always. Your idea of having different coloured flags is a good one and one I always use depending on the severity of the hole. Play away from the hole if the severity of the miss is too great. You must also know your club yardages aswell. Play for the easiest part of the green which suits your shot shape. Have a good weekend and look forward to your next video.
Good grief the tee height is a massive tip ! I've always used a red castle tee for my irons now I understand why some don't always reach while other shots did with the same club leaving out the slope and wind factor .. I'm changing my tees to wooden ones long & short thanks Matt great video xx
I never underestimate par 3s. Both courses I play at have real card wrecker opening holes. Happily this year my par 3 stats have been really good, makes a huge difference on your score. Good point on club selection, over a season I can be between three different clubs depending on wind and run on the course.
That like someone you work for saying, we really appreciate you working for us when we don’t have to pay you. Ads are part of how he makes revenue for him to make these videos 🤫
@@gonebutnot4gotten94 how exactly do you think YT is able to pay people like Matt to put up content exactly...? It's from people paying for ads to be put on YT and by people like me that pay not to see them. Glad I could clear that up for you.
One interesting thing is that the handicap for most par 3's are usually the highest on most courses. I've always thought that a bit short sited because the are sometimes the hardest holes on the course.
Great tips. Thanks for sharing. Here's a little tip for you...get yourself some sunglasses mate! You need them when you're staring right at the sun!! ;~)
Matt, question for you. Should we go a club longer off a tee with an iron as opposed to hitting that same iron off the deck? That's assuming the ball's not teed too high in the first place. I struggle hitting irons off a tee.
I always play for a 5 tops on the par 3’s so I don’t let not hitting par get in my head for the round and come the longer holes I aim for par or birdie to pull my score back anything nearer par on a par 3 I’m more than happy with I find them the most difficult holes as there’s less room for error
Matt Fryer Golf to be fair mate I played yesterday and hit 3- 4’s and 1- 5 on the par 3 holes 👌 took that one shot off the par 3’s already give or take
I saw Arnold Palmer on the Johnny Carson show back in the 70's and the question came up about teeing the ball up on par 3's. Arnold responded this game is hard enough so whenever your allowed to tee it up, tee it up and forget about what your seeing the pros do.
Been golf today and definitely been putting my ball to high on a tee so Gonna change that seemed like I was hitting it a club short was going that high 😂
Cracking video, I always play par 3's with getting par in mind. I aim for centre of the green with a thought of 2 putting. I try an get my birdies on the par 4 an 5's, because I know I've got more chance if correcting my bad strikes down the fairway
You're allowed to position the ball two (2) club lengths behind the tee markers. Use that area to find the most level ground and better target angle. Even a better shot angle can be found within the width of relatively narrow markers.
Three great tips Matt; most of the par 3s on my course are nightmare to the average golfer Really like the red / amber / green approach; I've been trying that for some time with good results Cheers
Great video. I’d also add another bit of humble advice. And that is to be honest with yourself about how far you actually carry each club. Leave the ego in the car park with your AirPods. I see way too many people trying to absolutely hammer an 8 iron and mess it up, rather than a controlled swing with a 7 or even a 6 depending on if the flags at the back of the green. So be honest with yourself, forget about impressing your playing partners with pulling a shorter club than them, and impress them instead with a smooth swing and an accurate shot followed by a birdie putt!
For the average golfers I always tell them par 3s are the easiest par 4 you will ever play. Get greedy and you can make 6 and blow up your round pretty easy.
I'd also suggest that, if it's a shot hole or conditions, (howling wind etc.) make it a much harder hole than normal, don't be embarrassed about laying up on a par three.
Golf: Where the "2 feet away" usually happens when it doesn't matter. Every golfer understands why you want to zoom in on that shot. And you'll be thinking all day about why that shot didn't happen in a tourney or scramble the last time you played that hole then you'll be pissed if you don't replicate that shot the next time. God I hate this game I've been playing for 40 years and spent thousands on and can't wait to play again.
Personally, I think the reason the pros don't have a great par-3 scoring average is because the courses they play on make most of them unfair. I would have to hit driver most of the time, and I still might come up short on some. There are some short par-3s, but they are generally very dangerous holes, like 17 at Sawgrass or 7 at Pebble Beach. If the pros usually encountered 145-yard par-3s with little danger and greens that weren't rock-hard, their scoring average would be under 2.5.
Not unfair, just difficult. Either they are very long, or have lots of trouble. Usually both. Pros are rarely hitting their approach shots on Par 4’s and 5’s the kind of distance they have to hit from on Par 3’s.
Club selection. Don't be intimidated into using a wedge just because the other guys in your foursome are using a wedge. Play within your own abilities. If you need a 7 iron or even a 5, for this distance, so be it. It's not about how far you are supposed to hit it its how far you actually hit it.
Why do I hit most greens (60+%) as a PAR 3 from pretty much any distance...but lower than 30% from the fairways? I cannot figure it out. I've got 5 holes in one...but last time I holed out...was at least 25 years ago.
My biggest problem on par 3's is distance. I am 71,and even if I play from the senior tees, the distance is just out of reach. And please don't ask me to go up a club. The longest club I carry is a 3 hybrid and my ego will not let me go to the ladies tee's.
