the higher quality means a more puffy expanding down. thats why a jacket with 700 fill power is lighter than a jacket with 500 fill power because you need less of it while both are just as warm.
Great explanation! But when two bags are rated at the same temperature rating (15 degrees) using different down (650 and 850 fill) aside from the 2 oz difference in weight what differences in performance will there be? I’m comparing Nemo Disco and Nemo Riff for reference.
Not much. In principle, higher fill power down can be a little more susceptible to losing loft faster as it gets dirty or damp. Higher fill power down is also more compressible (because there's less of it), not just lighter.
Halfway through the video and had to point this out. The 500 fp was 50 down and 50 feather.....you didnt claim how much feather was in the 700 fp I highly doubt it was 50 down and 50 feather....
I am such a troll, i would have put a disclaimer on the end of this video "no animals were harmed in the making of this video" :D Thanks for the great video though! Was enough going through all the PETA posts trying to find out some good info :)
Thank you for your fun video. lol So in relation to buying a pillow, you would want the lower number so it wouldn't compress as much which would give better support? Again thanks so much!
Fill power just refers to the quality of the down. The lower the fill power number, the lower the quality. It will take more of a lower quality down to reach a specific temperature rating than a higher quality down. The temperature rating is what you need to pay attention to in order to stay warm or cool.
+Carravagio16 yes and no! Compared to higher grade down like our 800 fill power summits, we don't love it. It just doesn't perform as good. Compared to synthetic, it's great! For the price point we are selling the 500 fill power bags, we feel it's a great bag compared to other bags under $100! Hope that explains why I may have been a little partial. Honestly I was a little surprised to see the difference myself in this test.

Does the higher fill power compress smaller than the lower fill power? (Does down compress better than feathers)
Yes, your understanding is absolutely correct. Congratulations.
thx guys i understand it now!..my duvet has a 700 fill of hutterite down...its so nice,,
How many years does a quality goose down jacket last ?

so if you like a cool sleep vs hot sleep, would you get 500 over 700 fill or is 700 fill still coolish?
