- Rhapsody in Blue WAS NOT Gershwin's most impactful composition in the Jazz world! Though the Rhapsody is incredibly loved and is amazing, it is a challenging and lengthy piece, meaning jazz musicians rarely include it in their repertoire.
On the other hand, his tune "I've Got Rhythm" (or "I Got Rhythm") has been widely adopted and modified, making it one of the most popular jazz pieces ever. The chord progression, challenging to improvise on but catchy and memorable, has been the basis for hundreds of compositions and thousands of recordings from artists like Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and more!
It's hard to imagine George Gershwin could ever have guessed how important his tune would be!
