Why is The Entertainer by Scott Joplin important?
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 месяца назад
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE?! .... this is perhaps one of the most famous ragtime pieces ever. Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer" brings up images of silent movies, high-wheel bicycles, and other cultural icons from the turn of the 20th century. Ragtime was most popular in the 1890s and first decade of thr 1900s. It went on to influence early jazz pianists such as Jelly Roll Morton, Eubi...
The Sax Solo That Changed Jazz History!
Просмотров 3543 месяца назад
How this solo changed jazz history..... Rather than play the full melody, then embellish and improvise later on during the solo portion of the arrangement, the entire recording WAS Coleman Hawkins solo! This 1939 recording increased the importance and position of the improvisation in jazz. Jazz has always had improvisation, but this track featured it entirely! After the first few notes, we only...

Rhythm changes
Very cool
Over the rainbow 53 is pretty sick
Thank you for flying United
@@TheWebgecko 😆
Delfino Plaza from Mario Sunshine is shockingly close to those chords too lmao
The most remixed song of all time
Nice explanation. To me, Miles Davis defined the Cool Jazz Era after Bebop, which was Hyper frenetic.
I'm a "Kind of Blue" guy.
I got spurs
That jingle jangle jingle

@@Nardo_stpierre thanks!
Im English, I live in England, UK. I heard/saw, McCoy Tyner, play at The Ronnie Scott Club, Soho, London, UK, with Gary Bartz, in appx, middle 1980's. McCoy, thanked the audience for coming on such a cold evening/night( middle of Winter ) Part way through this Gig, McCoy, spoke for sometime to the Audience his memories of John Coltrane, The Audience listened in complete silence, when McCoy, finished speaking there was much applause. Sorry for being boringly nostalgic. Peace to all.
That's an amazing story!! Must have been so cool to see him live
what is the first one called?
Blue Monk
@ thanks!
I love his night and day
Me too! He was so brilliant with those tunes
I'm English, I live in England, UK. I bought: Kind of Blue, in Manchester, England, UK, in 1960 ( When first released in UK) Soon after bought: John Coltrane, Giant Steps. Personally: Milestones, Is my favourite Miles, Album. Sorry for being boringly nostalgic. Peace to all.
Milestones is so great! So much energy and Miles is really looking forward. It's like a prelude to "Kind of Blue"
Syncing hands is hard
Coltrane's sound, though all are great.
King Oliver. And when he was younger Mingus fancied himself a Baron (Dolphy's "The Baron" is an homage). So glad I discovered your channel. I really dig it.
Correct info!
You must have never listened to the audio directions take a peek at there music and you’re listening to is going to change for sure
Cool Jazz is my favorite. It’s almost yogic for me and relaxes me.
Ruby my dear from the solo monk album is my favorite
His solo work is so amazing! I love how he always connects it to stride piano styles of the past
He had elements of jazz in his singing but I would not say he was a jazz singer the same way Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday were.
"so what" and "blue in green" are life-changing 🛫
You count the “6/7” twice as fast, so … theres a rest in there
@davefiano4172 seven has 2 syllables so you have to count it twice as fast
@ Aha!
UMMMMM. Literally bought a piano hammer cuz i broke my drum key trying to tune my very old piano and did it in like a day on youtube its really not that hard
Art Tatum deserves more recognition. I recently reencounter his music after reading a quote from Jerry Garcia, who said when you listen to Art Tatum, it's like you might as well give up on Music lol. Not enough people know Art Tatum's name.
You never mentioned Errol Garner, a gentleman who didn't ever learn to read music.... And "STILL" be able to play equally to Tatum and Peterson ‼️ How does someone pull this off? It defies all logic.... 👈🏽This in of itself makes Errol Garner a very VERY special pianist ♥️✅
God I love this album
Cheek Corea and Gonzalo Rubalcaba
Jimmy Smith, the Greatest Jazz organist of all times!
I didn't know this, but... WOW!!! Now I understand many things...
I really enjoy your posts. Thank you!
My #1 would be Blue Train.
While you’re right that this is an example of a jazz tune that moves away from the harmonic complexity of bebop, the use of bebop melodic concepts has been part of Herbie’s soloing on This tune, including the original version and his 2010 live version in Montreux. While it hasn’t been the focus of his solos, it’s often in there somewhere, like a short code word in a longer message.
Rachmaninoff is judged by many the best classical pianist. He used to go to see Tatum and admitted he could not play better.
He was effortlessly prodigious. I could watch videos about him all day
The Ink Spots, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Louis Armstrong are my favorite artists of all time. In that order
Thx for short explanation. Btw, was added 2 to pentatonic intended? It's also sounds cool and Tyner like.
Bill Evans.... the greatest
I'll take "Barry 'the Lion' Gordon" who I've heard on the 3rd st. promenade 100's of times. He's a beast.
I love swing the most but I do like the variety of bosa nova too
