I would like to point out something here, for the less experienced welders, notice how he is not flooring the pedal to heat before he starts. He lets the cleaning action of the AC doing its job and then proceeds with the stacking. Many welders do the mistake of starting welding before it is the right time. Great video btw!😁

Using a “OOOO” steel wool on the weld and the “etching” area before using mothers always gives me great results.
Most customers prefer the even fine brushed finish, so the “OOOO” steel wool on the whole part and weld gets the job done.
When i use the steel wool, i do it with soap and water. Gray scotch brite pads work good also, but i get more bank for my buck with steel wool.

    • @paulpaul6492
      @paulpaul6492 2 года назад +1

Steel wool will embed tiny steel particles in the aluminum and cause galvanic corrosion over time. Please do not do this with structural parts.

    • @Toolman919

Put the welder in reverse polarity and place a piece of copper on the weld table, then do a very quick arc. It will suck up a bit of copper to the tungsten and create the ball. This keeps a uniform arc and eliminates the spurs on the tungsten. It's very fast and not a lot of current is needed.

Mothers SUCKS. I used to fix wheels for a living. That stuff is horrible to polish aluminum wheels, you can buy it at canadian tire but that's the only good thing about it. Autosol Metal polish is the best 50$ for 750ml comes in a metal can (also in small tubes but overpriced). Mothers is not amazing at all, if i had to polish aluminum to a mirror finish autosol would be a lot faster and give better results. Also you can get compressed wool roloc discs if you really wanna get quick results. I thought you had a secret welding technique or something. p.s. Autosol metal polish used to be dark greyish paste but they've improved the formula and it's now white and much easier to clean off, make sure you get the white stuff. Pro tip best type of surface to rub it with is actually the super cheap commercial toilet paper, single layer bullshit that is barely usable as toilet paper actually works fantastic to polish aluminum, something about micro fibers in the paper grain or something. Just go to timmies and fill up you coat pockets with TP and u good about 10 layers folded with autosol on it works the best, even better than a new microfiber rag.

What's the point of doing that? That's a trade secret?

All great about you but one ideea... You said that you came up with the ideea of hand buffing the weld, cool, and then you said that other people use a different product... So what's the truth? Everyone copied you or you got a hint from others too... 😅😅😅

Hey bud, have watched a couple of your videos now and was enjoying them until the end of this one. Where you told people to follow you online to learn how to tig weld, as you had no one teach you?? I hope for one you are trade qualified? and are not teaching people how to take the jobs of trade qualified welders with just an online video instruction?? I hope I'm wrong but there are a few of us that have been in this trade for a minute that take it seriously. Peace from Australia. Would love to discuss further if you would like?

Hey Dan! Great question and appreciate you hitting me up. Not sure I understand fully, but yes I’m a certified welder and supervisor here in Canada. I’ve been ticketed and certified for 15 (or so) years, and have done teaching and instructing stints at the college on the island here for welding. I’m not sure what you mean by taking jobs off of certified welders, as my students usually go off to get their certs and go after jobs from what I’ve seen so far. I encourage as many people to get into the trade in any way they can, as I’m sure you know how awesome of a skill it is💪 I actually almost missed your comment as I don’t check my RUclips comments much anymore, but if you’d like to hit me up I keep up with my messages on IG (I try my best at least anyway) so if you have any more questions hit me there:) @pacificarctigwelding Cheers to you in Australia! I’m crazy jealous- my wife and kids and I are supposed to be there as we speak. We had a full trip planned but canceled it due to... well.. you know... Next year hopefully! My favourite place on the planet!
      Cheers my friend!

Hey there, thanks for the quick reply!! What i was getting at, and I'm not sure how it works over there in Canada, is that here, we go through a 4 year apprenticeship on very low wages to become a qualified "Boilermaker / Welder" Tradesman. To then go on and earn half decent money after doing the hard yards.... However you can become a "certified Welder" in just a few weeks from a tafe college, and these "certified welders" in some cases can take the jobs of "Qualified Boilermaker/Welders. So i was hoping you were not promoting this as I'm sure you can see the frustration there. I even get the same in my position now as a Welding QA/QC Supervisor / Inspector......As a Cert 10 Welding Supervisor (18 months of study via correspondence then a day of exams to pass which are only sat a couple of times a year with very low pass rate) Jobs can be taken by people with no Welding experience sitting a 1 week CSWIP 3.1 Inspectors Course..... Apologies for rambling on, but you could say I'm fairly passionate about the trade and post trade qualifications and about people doing the hard yards and not taking the easy way out and taking positions away from people who have.
Away from that, where in Australia were you thinking of coming to?
      Cheers, Dan.

Sorry mate, I'm not on IG, a little old school in that regard, so apologies for not replying to you on there...I hope the above clarifies my point.

Lol!! Dude you select 1/4" plate and act like you're a master? Show us on 1/16" sheetmetal where your skills will go to die. Polishing welds will get you fired from any weld job I've ever had. You don't touch them once you've really arrived..

Why does the tungsten ball up? BECAUSE YOU OVER HEATED IT. Any reason you didn't use hybrid AC/DC? Oh, you don't have it, well, then go get it. It is wonderful. By the way, pulsing does nothing but decrease the heat into the material, which you can do with the proper initial settings. NOTICE YOU DIDN'T SHOW THE REVERSE SIDE, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS FULL PENETRATION. Anyone can use less heat without full penetration to make a shinny weld. Get full penetration and shinny weld, that is more difficult and you did NOT demonstrate that you can do it.
