    From February of this year up to today, I can feel that I’m more of a pleasure to be around because I’ve been actively trying to be nicer and more positive to others (not that I wasn’t to begin with). The only thing that has changed is that I’ve been watching your videos over and over since then. So all credit goes to you, bro! My aluminum welding is still trash though. 🤣

    Cool thing. The measuring of the cups is same in europe, but we use litres per minutes, not CFH. What's the cool thing? The number of cup equals LPM You should be running for that cup.

    Good information and I really appreciate your attitude! It's worth noting that the EP (electrode positive) portion of the AC wave used in aluminum welding puts a lot more heat in the tungsten than the normal DCEN (electrode negative) polarity used for mild steel and stainless. Some ceramic and clear glass (Pyrex/quartz) cups are limited in their amps on AC or are not meant for welding AC at all because they can't take this heat. And of course aluminum welding takes more heat/amps than equivalent thickness steel to begin with, so the combination means you might want to use 1 size bigger tungsten than you would need for steel. Aluminum doesn't need great gas coverage, so traditional (non gas lens) collet bodies and cups work just fine on aluminum most of the time.

      @hifartingoctopuss Год назад

      I run 140a with a water cooled torch, welding all day and the gas lenses don't last as long as the old style diffuser type. Could be to do with the heat like you are saying.
      I bought some cheaper gas lenses once and none of them would weld aluminium without ruining the weld.

    To ball or not to ball tungsten?
    Reading my manual for my everlast 256si.
    It says DO NOT ball the tungsten.
    You still talking about balling it, with these new inverter machines.
    Why still ball modern 2% tungsten, with modern inverter machines?

    Thank you for your video.
    I tried TIG welding aluminium with a gas lens but the lens gets clogged up very time and the gasflow becomes distorted.
    Probably because of the AC.
    My material as clean as possible so that there is hardly any dirt. What do I do wrong?

    This is great! I am just starting out and am currently using the standard diffuser type collet body setup but have been thinking of trying a gas lens. Would you recommend someone starting out to wait until they are more experienced to switch to a gas lens setup? Or do you think it would be worth it for a beginner like me to switch to the gas lens? I am loving your videos, brother!

    • @PacificArcTigWelding
      @PacificArcTigWelding  3 года назад +1

      As a beginner- you’ll be dippin like crazy...😂🙏 It happens. No big deal, however when you run a screen those are super easy to mess up by contamination and splatter from dipping. I’d get a bit more familiar with hand control and posture, then gear up with some finer tuning like lenses and nicer cups:)🍻

    • @teledunc
      @teledunc 3 года назад

      @@PacificArcTigWelding Awesome, that is exactly what I was wondering, if the lenses could get messed up easily. I definitely have been dipping my tungsten a ton! Each day I feel I am getting better and better though. Videos like your have really been helping me out, I appreciate it! BTW, do you have any merch (hats, shirts) for sale?

    • @benz-share9058
      @benz-share9058 3 года назад

      @@PacificArcTigWelding When you add filler to the puddle in aluminum welding, the puddle tends to plump up (rise toward the tungsten tip) more than it does with steel or stainless. I've found that can really increase the tungsten contamination/dipping. Jody (Weldingtipsandtricks) and others recommend trying to raise the tungsten just a bit higher when dabbing the filler rod, in a rhythm. I've tried this technique and it works.

      The 26 size is rated for 250A, the 9 is 120A or so? Stainless is typically thin, and welded at lower current, so you can use a nice small torch

  • @hifartingoctopuss
    @hifartingoctopuss Год назад

    I never use gas lenses with aluminium. Some cheaper ones just don't work due to contamination. Any dips just more expensive, use the cheaper collet bodies/gas diffuser, especially a learner.
    Gas screen pointless for aluminium
    The aluminium doesn't need loads of shielding, it's mostly the tungsten that needs the gas. I use a 5 cup with 2.4mm zirconium tungsten.
    I have a water cooled torch, and I can weld 140a all day without it getting hot.
