Hey, everybody, how's it going Today we're gonna be going over the CURT Echo under-dash trailer brake controller. So, there's actually two different kinds of the CURT Echo. If you're familiar with towing and trailer brake controllers, you're probably familiar with their mobile brake controller, which simply plugged into the seven way. Now, I really liked that option. It's one of my favorites actually. It works pretty much the same as the under-dash, really the main difference is gonna be, that the CURT Echo mobile simply plugs into the seven way.
There's no wiring under the dash there, whereas, the under-dash brake controller is gonna plug into a factory port and get installed inside the vehicle. Now, I really liked both of these options. The mobile brake controller is probably going to be best if you have a vehicle without the factory tow package port. Whereas, if you do have a vehicle with the factory tow package port, then you're gonna wanna utilize that under-dash brake controller. The CURT mobile Echo brake controller, not everybody likes that due to how it is installed outside the vehicle.
There's really nothing you can do about someone coming up and stealing that off the vehicle. So if you're one of those people that's super worried about that, you could still go with the under-dash brake controller as well. Even if you don't have a factory brake controller port, you would just need the hard wire. So in summary, they're both great options. I liked them both, the under-dash is gonna be more geared towards those vehicles that have the factory brake controller port, or for those of you who are concerned with the security of the mobile brake controller.
So the CURT Echo is actually a proportional brake controller. Now, what a proportional brake controller does is, it's basically gonna be applying the brakes in the trailer in a force that mirrors that of our vehicle. Now, what I mean by this is, let's say we're driving out in the highway, we're driving down the highway and somebody cuts out in front of us and we really need to slam on the brakes, we really need to get both our vehicle and our trailer slowed down in a hurry. Now, the proportional design of this controller is gonna ensure that we get maximum braking force sent to our trailer there if we slam on the brakes on our vehicle. Now, as opposed to when we're just driving around in town, coming to a slow stop at a stoplight, we obviously wouldn't want maximum force being sent to the trailer, we just wanna come to a nice and slow stop.
And the proportional design is gonna sense that, and just apply a little bit of brakes on the trailer so we're not locking them up. The CURT Echo is a Bluetooth brake controller, meaning there isn't anything mounted on the dash, which is one of the reasons I really like it. You don't have to drill into our dash at all, or take up space. A lot of the traditional brake controllers, one of the huge design flaws is, they're really bulky, and you're gonna be banging your knees 'cause most newer vehicles just simply don't have a lot of space, but with the Echo and the Bluetooth design, everything is gonna be controlled on your phone. Now, if we don't have a phone we wanna use, we can also use a tablet as well. Really any mobile device that uses either the apple play store or the apple market or the Google play store, either of those are gonna work fine. It's gonna allow us to download this app and use our brake controller. I'd also like to point out that another concern people has is, you don't actually have to have an active data connection in order to use the app on your mobile device, you do to have one to download it, but once you get it downloaded, you don't have to worry about having an active internet connection. Because of this Bluetooth design, we don't have to worry about mounting anything physically to the dash, therefore there's no drilling whatsoever, and we don't have to worry about taking up that valuable space, possibly banging our knees on the controller. Everything is gonna be installed under the dash out of sight, and out of mind. And then as with most newer brake controllers on the market, there are integrated safeguards built into the brake controller. Therefore, you don't have to worry about any shorts within the controller affecting the vehicle and vice versa. Everything is gonna be isolated, so you don't have any problems there. So in regards to trailer compatibility, there's really nothing you guys need to worry about. The Echo under-dash is rated for trailers up to four axles, and it's gonna be compatible with electric over hydraulic ac

The fellow in the video said you "don't always need the app running" for the brake controller to work. I have a 30 foot motorhome and turn off my phone while driving. Will this product work for me?

This brake controller is designed to remember the last setting you had it on if you turn your phone off. You will not have the override function if your phone is off.
