- Meet the rascal, a mischievous mob that loves to play Hide & Seek! The rascal lurks in underground mines, waiting to be found. If you spot the same rascal three times, it will reward you with a prize so keep your eyes open!

I feel like the items the rascal gives should be based on your experience level, weather conditions or something. I think that would make the rascal much more interesting.

I think they scale it to advancements but they don’t want it to give end city loot
I really like this one, but I feel like it’ll lose its purpose in the late game if it just gives a lightly enchanted iron pickaxe.

This could be cool to give the caves even more life. Imagine your pickaxe breaks while mining (maybe you could just make a new one but) this mob just gives you a new enchanted one, might be really helpful even in later game. Plus a bit of fun with the hide and seek feature, might lighten up caves even more.

However, the only new items are plants and are purely for decorative purposes.The rascal offers a whole variety.
This is a fun idea but unless it gives you unique and useful items there’s no way I would choose it over the promise of a bunch of new plants.

This was the only mob that would spawn naturally... Tuff golem needs to be build and Sniffer is hidden away in chests... Sad that it didn't won.

I like that thing of making creatures that aren't just enemies or food source, but have a way of interact with and affect the environment.

Yes. And don’t forget, this is a humanoid being. If you have watched Game Theories videos on Minecraft, you know how much lord this will give because of how it is a humanoid creature. Could this be a descendant from the ancient civilizations that ran away when the warden came to the ancient cities. This could explain the fact that it runs away when it sees you or it likes playing and wants a friend. This is my favorite mob so far in the vote.

I love the design for the Rascal!
This one seems really cool, but the sniffer seems to have more to offer for the game as a whole. The rascal has a neat concept but it's something that is already done elsewhere in the game. You can get enchanted items from villagers, loot chests, mobs and by doing it yourself. While neat in concept, it adds no new mechanics in the game. Sniffer is the best option so far
Edit: From looking at the comments, I've come to a conclusion. People don't understand what they literally blatantly said in the videos. New plants were said to probably come with the sniffer. This one is not going to drop new items or anything, just enchanted equipment which we already have tons of ways to get. As for saying the hide and seek thing is cool, sure, but it's tedious for trying to get the drops and that's literally the only new thing it brings. to reiterate, sniffer comes with new stuff. This mob does not. Yes, the new stuff would be decor, but that's still more then what's offered here

@@notjohn321 Bruh, unless the enchants are new or the pickaxe it gives is diamond quality, this boi is useless and tedious. Early game is annoying before you have a base set up, early-midgame is somewhat viable, mid is pretty useless, mid-late is useless, and late game is a complete waste of time and a vote.

They should really go more into detail of each mob. Every year I feel kinda blindly voting since we only know a basic concept.
yes, they only give basic concept because they will make details of that mob only if it actually gets voted. Why to bother with details if its not even gonna be in the game.
They only gave a basic description because they will flesh it out more if we vote for it.
That's kinda the point since implementation can change how the mob is introduced to minecraft; having one clean core concept is the important thing for the dev's introducing prototype/early draft mobs.
They have..on their web page they have given a more detailed written peice of both so far..i like sniffler morw atm.. ancient seeds is a cool concept

I feel the hide-and-seek mechanic could very easily break and depending on the loot table turn into a "why bother" type of mob, even though i love using the -trash- loot i find instead of using crafted tools i don't myself going after them unless it's for building aesthetics, but it's kind of hard to see aesthetic potential without properly seing the mob's model, texture, and scale.
It might lack purpose... If hide and seek is the only thing it adds.
Especially in end game this mob is just a nuisance. Wastes your time when mining and then gives you iron tools.. you could find diamonds manually in the mean time xD also during end-game you have already full netherite and all sorts of farms like iron farms.. iron tools and armor would be useless from this mob in the game.. Sniffer is definitely a better choice so far.
At least it’s kinda better than paying for items in Emeralds from the Wandering Trader.

So far, definitely prefer the sniffer, since the sniffer reveal implies new plants, not just the same stuff you could find in loot chests. Would be nice to have more information as to what, exactly, could be in this kind of loot table, or if anything new would come of it. Right now, would rather have more plants than a whack-a-mole style lootbox.
I like how nobody cares about sniffer, they only cares about the "new plants" that mojang said that MAYBE will add.

I really like how cute this mob looks and how unique it is. But I have to say I'm on the sniffer's side so far, the possibility of new plants is more exciting to me than yet another way to get enchanted tools. It would be great if the rascal also gave some more unique and useful loot.

This was my vote for 1.20 bit the sniffer outvoted it. If the rascal made it into Minecraft, it would have an enormous devotion for it. If possible, can you add it in a later update like the frog?

I mean it'd be fun for a while, but it'd basically only be useful if you find a mineshaft early game. The new plants from the other one will always be useful for decoration

This is why the worst mobs always win, people only vote for the items. Take the glow squid, and phantoms as examples of that, don't vote for the ones with items, they're always the worst and the items are usually useless!!

Like, Jeb never said anything about phantoms being useful for potions when they were still being referred to as “Mob B”. That’s a feature that came in the 1.13 snapshots.

Its a shame we cant just get all of these. Imagine all the content the game would have.
Its annoying because the game has been out for so long at this point and they have yet to add anything super substantive. We still only have 2 actual bosses if you don't include the warden. Id honestly like more variety but it seems like every year we get some minor addition and that's it.

They should introduce some sort of progression based on achievements or alchemy that unlocks or removes certain mobs and game features.

I love how the dream of something like a cave dwelling miner goblin, that many ppl from the community had, is almost realized, but the Sniffer is just more unique and interesting

I believe the Rascal runs the risk of being pretty boring, a way to avoid that would be to make it pretty rare, like having it only spawn in a new structure and have it give unique items when found, that way we will really be looking for it and have a lot of fun!
Mineshaft (not a rare structure) is a perfect place for it, as long as it doesn't spawn 10 rascal per mineshaft; it being "too common" shouldn't be a problem, especially considering it hides from players constantly
I’d love if it was a special way to get rare and unique stuff, like adding a new enchant that can only be obtained by finding a rascal

this is so cool! i would vote this one cause sometimes when you dont have a pickaxe you might be stuck for a while but when you bump into them you get a small reward that can help you out a lot!

You're a new player playing minecraft for the first time and you get jumpscared by this mob just for it to run away... then.... it jumpscares you again when you were searching for more iron.
Imagine if it's appearance perfectly times with the ambiance noise.
This one could be useful but you also have to change the items time to time because of future updates
I think the Rascal would have had some cool lore to it. Is it a human or illager or something?
It’s a cool looking mob. But I like the thought of the sniffer more. The thought of having a large farming area full of plants ands sniffers along with having an ally flying around to pick up the seeds is cool. It would be like mobs working together to help you farm. It also seems to come in multiple sizes so you could have creatures of all sizes roaming your land and helping you.
Side note, it would be cool if you could plant seeds on the sniffers mossy/ bush back so it’s kinda like a walking/ moving farm. Maybe even have one follow you and grow some berries and stuff on its back, that would be cool.

For more recent players, the rascal can be new, for a veteran player the enchanted tools or ores, we already have plenty, the Sniffer has more depth in its mechanics, It also gives you new plants, I think the Sniffer is more worth it... Something important to note is that everything points to the archeology update

Llamas would be extremely useful if their pathfinding was fixed and if they where as fast as the player. It'd be a simple fix and it'd be more fun to actually use them.
Imagine not atc like an indie company, and make an effort to add the 3 mobs
alternative ideas that the rascal could've had to make it more votable sense a lightly enchanted iron pickaxe wont be useful late game:
rascal gives or drops some kind of heart like orb that beats faster the closer you are to ores, right click to activate, lasts 1-2 minutes, only can be activated 3 times then it breaks.
rascal can give pieces to craft or just drops a miners helmet (helmet with a candle on it) which may need balancing like having to refuel it with honey comb every once in a while because it could be on a furnace like timer
rascal gives or drops the bag he carries which adds another row of inventory space when equip in your off hand, this would help the inventory issue currently as well
Jeb said that the drop of the rascal isn't sure right now and will only be sure if he gets voted. The picaxe is only a placeholder
The Rascal is pretty interesting with its design, but I would only play hide and seek with it if I'm that bored. So far the Sniffer seems like it will be more useful, and the fact we might get new seeds (I'm hoping for something like lettuce or tomatoes) might make the Sniffer vote worth it.
I'm more concerned that hostile mobs are already hide and seek, especially skeletons and creepers.
I'm only considering Rascal based on the odds of getting Fortune or Mending.

This is an entertaining one it would be fun to play hide and seek but it might lose purpose in late game but also it would add one more underground mob

Me too. Sniffer even though kinda useless its the coolest mob so far in any mob vote: the concept of bringing it back from extinction, its design and the potential of the new plants... kinda hope they add tomato and lettuce. Imagine making a BLT
My main reason for favoring the sniffer is that it's Minecraft's take on a dinosaur. The egg mechanic, and the fact that it doesn’t just look like a real life equivalent are major draws for me.

Depending on how “hiding” works, you could easily make an item/XP farm using a grindstone to remove enchants and using the rest of the tools for nuggets and repairing stuff.
That would be the slowest xp farm ever, but i like your thinking!

agree, the other mob, the sniffer will literally come with new plant seeds and probably new food source, this one kinda lacks a lot of helpful features
well, it has a few purpose we can use
1. using it as intended in early game to mine
2. make an iron farm without having to transport villagers and zombies
3. use to get xp from grind stone
4. pickaxe farm
5. minigames

While I do like the interactivity this mob brings to the table, I feel that the Sniffler has more potential because it feels like a perfect segway to archeology (eventually) and other cool stuff having to do with extinct or ancient mobs amd wildlife! Also, Sniffler is cuter if I'm being honest. Still think Rascal is a cool mob, I feel like they should have just been introduced with the Caves and Cliffs update cause they fit so well in that theme!

I'd be really unique for this mob how spawn in a little cave signifying it's home so we know it's somewhere in a certain cave, this mob would make caves feel less empty now that ores are harder to get
If this mob gets added I hope you'll be able to edit it's hotbar via commands making it give you the item you put there in creative worlds. That'd be really cool
This is such a genuinely fun mob idea (I don't know if it's just me but he reminds me of the Kobolds and the Redcap Sappers from the Twilight Forest mod), it's a shame that his utility boils down to early game situations and leaves the Sniffer as the most viable candidate so far. Can't wait to see what the Tuff Golem looks like !

1.120 should be the "Promised Update" where they just add everything they have teased like fireflies, updated birch forests, and things like teased/mobs that didn't make it into the game previously. A quality of life update would be nice.

I'm honestly voting the Rascal. I just think it has a better use then the other mobs. And, you can edit the mob folder to give it a higher chance of spawning, and better loot. This is my honest opinion, you can vote whatever you want. I just really like the concept.

Rascal is a death trap. It will be in mines. You'll be busy trying to catch it and will forget to watch out for poison spiders, and creepers that are littered around

I love the idea that you find it 3 times and get a reward. It reminds me of the flower korok puzzle in breath of the wild. But I think after early game you wouldn't care if you found one. it would be cooler if it then led you to an underground structure like a geode or mineshaft. Then it would be a fun thing to find. Overall I think the sniffer is more thought out than the rascal, so I prefer the sniffer as it adds more to the gameplay.
Honestly this is a great idea! But yeah sniffer seems better rn.
Or trying to find it three times….. that means if you don’t have line of sight to wherever it spawns/it spawns inside a cavern you haven’t mined out, that will be a PITA to find.

If i Knew How To at The Time I Think Theres a Problem The Mob Vote Videos Introduce The Charcter and Explain What It Does But Doesn't Go Into Detail On What it Can Do Further Beside For Example "A Iron Pickaxe What a Lovely Gift" So They Made It That it Only Gives a Iron Pickaxe

I really hope they continue doing this. Minecraft has always had realistic mobs but the most memorable ones have always been fantasy related

Rascal was such a cute little guy...
I love the idea of the Rascal treating the player like we treat Endermen, where he'd be intently watching us from behind, perhaps chortling cute little noises as an audio cue for players, but immediately as the player turns toward it, it would slip away into the darkness and out of our reach (unless you juuuust so happen to be fast enough [from the sounds of it, 3 times!] to catch the cute little dude!)
And its even cuter when its chace us while scraming:)

Love the concept and design of this but personally I’m more into new plants instead of just things I can already get in game by actually grinding.

@@Pyro_dragon seeing as the only hint left has to do with it moving “hats” around I doubt I’ll be impressed by the Tuff Golem since it seems like it’ll be more of a rascal than the rascal. Design wise Rascal is my fav but new plants still have my vote.

Sounds really awesome! The only problem I see is it either being completely irrelevant because of the bad rewards, or being completely overpowered and being farmed so eg. diamonds and enchantments not being valuable anymore. With the sniffer you always have the building blocks.
Still an awesome concept though
Diamondsare only worth something as a item, as all diamond items became worthless thanks to trading.

I feel like it would be more like the piglin, where instead of when you find it it gives you a set item, it instead gives you a random item that’s mining related. To me that sounds cool and with the big bag on it’s back maybe it’s hinting towards some new form of storage?
would be even more cool if it drops that bag when killed
Or even just ore and minerals, it’s like a mini game with how it’s presented so having like, TNT, a bunch of a certain blocks, diamonds, iron, red stone etc. would be a fun gamble for it.

I love how they are presenting more and more mobs in the game, and these mobs they're adding are more focused on assisting and benefitting the player than just being there as just a mob.

After the glow squid, the bar for usefulness was lowered drastically, but I had to agree since the allay was legitimately useful for a lot of item sorter designs.
