"I need you to become the man you were always meant to be"
Even though I have my differences with how his arc turned into, I still had to explore it more thoroughly and try and make sense of what happened.
Maybe it makes sense, see and judge it for yourself.
The last bit "Ser Jaime Lannister...." who do you want him to be? an oathkeeper or an oathbreaker - I'll give that to you.

And brann murdered the god of tree and children of jungle because he went to take a look at the night king when the god of tree was sleeping. He almost murdered everyone from helping him to become three eyes raven.

Jamie and the Hound. Two characters we thought to be monsters turned out to be the two best and most honorable knights in the whole show.

Too bad they ruined with Jaime saying 'I never really cared about them' in ep 5.

Too bad they butchered his character arc at the end.
@@madmartigan21 Why do you people act like his character changed in the last episode? Is it so difficult for you to comprehend? Jaime and Cersei dying together was perfect. Jaime always loved her no matter what. He went to winterfell to honor his promise to fight the wights but returned to cersei because he loves her. You can be a good and honorable person but you can't change your feelings of love .She is like an addiction. Like Olenna said "if she has driven you this far, then its out of your control". Jaime dying with cersei was a perfect ending. he died with his family. He loved his brother, father and sister. This is what lannisters are known for. Their love and honor for the family. How does loving a bad person cancel out his character development? How could he have stayed away from his one true love despite being honorable?
Its not complex if a character regressed or did not develop and went back to his original state.
@@shwetamitra3069
Oh yeah, we cant comprehend we are idiots.
No.
They have butchered the character arc. Jaime was becoming a more proud and empathetic man, trying to be more good even loving somebody else than Cersei then BAM they made him go to Cersei again. He should despise Cersei right now because she didn't care about army of the dead, that's why he left her.
@@evrensaygn1017 Jaime motive was always love. He loved Thyrion (thats what saves Thyrion in the childhood) and UNCODITIONAL love to Cersei. In almost all seasons he says or behave like that. BTW what Cersei did was nothing wrong in his eyes, couse he know that she always wanted an Iron throne, and that she will do anything for that. So ending is perfect for him imho.

@@SuperKing604 yes I know. Your point being ...?
There is no other man like Jaime Lannister. He pushed a boy out a window, killed his king, forsook every vow he ever took... and all for love. The golden knight
It would have been great if he had died killing the night king instead of arya. He would have been called night kingslayer.
Daenerys wasn't crazy she was just hurt and had the power to do something about it. If anyone of the Starks or Lannisters had a dragon they would have done the same or worse. Also it has to do with the bad writing but as lovely Emila clarke put it, "she was so hurt in that moment and in pain that she snapped" Daenerys wasn't "mad" or "crazy" she was in pain and had a fucking dragon. Jamie is, in my estimation, the most humane character in the show. Not necessarily good, or evil, but HUMANE. His story is a fine example of what the life experience can be. Poetic character.
Agreed! Even his returning to Cercei while tragic was a completely human moment that totally fit his character.
Since when is banging your sister considered HUMANE?
@@ItsNerdyy It's not. Just like pushing a kid out of a window is not humane. But I'm using the word to mean "a human pushed to the edges of his own desires, struggles, errors, pretenses, illusions, misunderstandings, social/parental impositions, etc dramatized", with the healthy distance that we are not talking about an actual human, but a character of a televison drama. I'm stealing the word to describe a human in the voyage of life with all its revolutions.
Jamie gave us quite a show. I can point other characters that managed similar growths but I think he had one the most complete journeys. We have seen traces of the same Jamie throughout the show and different sides developed through the course of the show. That's why I called it "humane". This development, the transformation, the arrogance and sense of a superior distance, the following downfall, the humility, the self-awareness of who he really was. Jamie was a character that did the whole loop of what I like to call the "human experience". Perhaps it would be more full if he had lost his wealth somehow and had ended up homeless. For example Arya had a full loop, but that practically never affected her self resolve, which makes it less sensible and wondrous. Denerys had a full loop as well but she had a name and Dragons and her arc was always ascending, it wasn't as touching as seeing a character fall so hard you want to know how the hell he(she) is getting up, and actually watch him do it, and what comes out of him
@@brain0nfire it is a characyer of humane because it's a metaphor of doing wrong but then redeeming it throughout the storyline chose. But in literal context of course only kid out of the window is not humane.

Great character but the show ended it well. He's arc has been good bad then back again. He was always going to die.
The entire point of Jamie's character development wasn't that he was a bad person who slowly redeemed himself. His character development was that he wasn't a villain or a hero, but rather a complex man with admirable qualities, as well as deep flaws. Jamie going from bad to good would have been the most basic trope. Instead, his arc went full circle, which is a legit character arc. He loves Cersei, unconditionally, and that was his fatal flaw. He has good and bad in him. The bad does not wash out the good, nor the good the bad. He's addicted to Cersei just like a drug addict. Many addicts sober up for a while, but inevitably relapse and go back to the thing they so desperately want to quit. He said it himself, “We don’t choose who we love” and “Why have the gods made me love a hateful woman.” This is actually a very GRRM move by the writers and it most likely came from George himself. GRRM doesn't write predictable story arcs. He doesn't believe in black and white characters. He loves blurring the lines and creating morally gray characters which is exactly what Jamie is. It's a good end to his story and he died like he always wanted to; in the arms of the woman he loves.
@@The_Ranga_Guy or some bricks
Beautiful! At 3:15 when Jamie asked “would you have done it? Would you have kept your oath then” as it cuts to Jon’s horror of Dany setting the city ablaze having the same thoughts as Jamie did for the mad king but was too late to stop it
Will Sandroni for foreshadowing. Almost like Jon will become Jamie
@Antigone Zervas the difference is that Jon actually has romantic feelings for Dany. Aerys was a complete psychopath, hated and feared by everyone around him. Jamie never loved him, but Jamie would have never killed him were it not for his plot to blow up the city.
@@wll1500 He loved Rhaegar as did so many other people and felt like he failed him when he found out the Mountain and Ser Amory Lorch murdered Rhaenys, Aegon, and raped and Murdered Elia Martell.
In the look of horror on Jon's face I immediately replayed his words to Varys. "She... is my queen". And he kept his oath. Excellent contrast.
Jaime repeated that thought several times before killing the King... Something like 'I'm a kingsguard' i don't remember the exact words that barristan told him every time the mad King did something bad
Best written character in a long time. Gained a lot, lost a lot. A true meaning of growing a character is here, I would not have written it better myself. Jaime will always be my favorite game of thrones "companion".
Один из лучших персонажей сериала. И единственный персонаж, чью историю не слили в 8 сезоне.
Jaime deserved a better end. Him saying "I never cared for innocent people" makes no sense. The man who sacrificed his honour to save millions. Also, all those years getting away from Cersei realizing how toxic and selfish she is only to go back to her. The writers didn't do this great character justice but God Nikolaj truly did.
Maliha Intikhab I don’t think he meant it when he said that. As for him going back to Cersei, that makes a lot of sense. He always loved her, more than anyone or anything! He realized that she’d gone dark side and that’s why he left for Winterfell, but at the end of the day, this was about Cersei and him and their unborn child. He always sacrificed his duty for the ones he loved, as he almost killed Bran in episode one.
It’s a tragic end for him, sure, but that doesn’t make it bad. Sure the writing wasn’t great and the whole season feels rushed, but Jaime dying with Cersei makes a lot of sense imo.
Exactly! I don't understand how someone can get back to a person who he knows has sent an assassin to kill him? I mean just why would you do that?
Kashish Khan why do hundreds of men and women stay with an abusive spouse? Why do thousands die every year of addiction to drugs and alcohol? Very real ending for Jaime. Couldn’t overcome what was destroying him
It would have made more sense to have him attempt to murder Danny after The Long Night. When confronted at trial he could have stated he did it for the hundreds of thousands of citizens who will die if she lived. This would have foreshadowed the massacre at King's Landing.
If the if they wanted to they could of also included a trial by combat whereas the coalition could have put forth the recently knighted Brienne of Tarth. Either one of them winning would have been Game of thrones worthy. Hell you could have Danny kill Jaime if he won as well. She never respected tradition and it would have shown her growing further into madness and as to why people question her as a ruler. Or you could have him lead the defense of Kings Landing as there was not enough focus on their side.

@utkarsh Acharya I'm not denying that all. But Aerys did order him to kill and behead Tywin, that was like the icing on the cake.
And this is why, though I loved Ned, he could be very annoying. Lol.
@@janellejulianajoy No, it would have made a big difference if Ned knew the truth. This is the man who risked his life in order to protect the children of a woman he despised...
The Jaime/Mad King and Jon/Dany parallels you showed? Gave me CHILLS

believer in love true, I was thinking on breaking oaths in light of a mad ruler. Jon trying to get the Northman to stop fighting the moment danerys began burning them all
@@ethanpalamountain11Yes I meant Jaime and Jon realizing the horror of what their King/Queen has done, and the foreshadowing of what Jon is probably going to do to Dany.
Is it gonna happen again..!?? Is Jon gonna be "Queenslayer" ?
I understand why people are not impressed with this season. There are some logical errors in writing but there are also many moments which are epic and are too much relevant, Eg- Jamie deing in hands of woman he loved, Sandor overcoming both his fears, the fear of his brother and fire, at the same time, Beric and Jorah serving their purposes and surely many more. Had Dany not showcased herself as Mad-queen, we would have not got chance to see this amazing parallel between Jamie and Jon.
This season own its pros and cons and i prefer to enjoy pros because there's nothing I can do about cons.
Ok that was awesome. Jon carrying out jaimes thinking is legit.
The one death we didn't want, but the death we knew was unavoidable. I wanted him to live more than anyone. It broke my heart when the debris fell on him, and he was gone. I love this character. I love this show.

Thank you George R.R. Martin for creating this character.
Thank you Nikolaj Coster-Waldau for bringing him to life.
And fuck you D&D for throwing his development out the window
@@DaddyLogan420 the more I think abt it, the more it pisses me off man
@@DaddyLogan420 They didn't.

To be fair to Jaime when he talks to his dad during Tyrion's trial he tells Tywin that the Mad King had ordered Jaime to kill Tywin. And that's when Jaime decided to turn on the Mad King in favor of his father.

same here, shame D&D fucked it up
AD_edits his arc was the best until it went out the window like bran
@Hue Wong Really??? That means he never changed then. I find it hilarious that people accept his ending in such a lazy way. How is ending up with Cersei a lesson? The woman who abused and manipulated him all his life? The woman who started all the wars, who tried to kill Tyrion countless times, who "cheated" on him in less than a blink? Killing her was his true destiny, abandoning her was his true end. D&D ruined Jaime in a way that's so fucking wrong I can't even describe, and they're doing it to Daenerys too. How? By telling us that no matter what, you can't change who you are, you can't never wipe that stain of your name, you can't never escape your destiny, which is essentially the whole opposite of what Martin was trying to do.
EDIT: Also, "evil" shouldn't be a word you should be able to use in Game Of Thrones, because the drama was centered around the grey characters that composed this world; there wasn't any good and evil to begin with, and Jaime wasn't partly evil, he was, like everyone else, a grey character
@Hue Wong The "they ruined his character" , "he deserved better" comments are everywhere on the internet. Once Bronn asked Jaime how he'd wanted to go, he said "in the arms of the woman I love", and that's exactly what happened. The problem is that there are a bunch of cunts who say that his character was ruined because he changed, and another bunch of cunts who say that his character was ruined because he didn't change and came back to Cercei. How do you satisfy these bunches of cunts ? Oh and by the way, they say that about all the characters. one fucker said he was disappointed in the ending of the Hound's story arc because he fought his brother on stairs!! for fuck's sake these fans are fucking delusional.
People defending the last episodes are people who likes one dimensional characters. You take one aspect of the character and decided "yeah, that was Jaime. The character who loved Cersei. That was his whole character" and thats ignoring everything else about him. He was a complex man who did something that mark him for life as the Kingslayer. He debated within his love for her sister and how mad she was. He was loyal to his brother and in the ultimate moment he decided he was going to help humanity to fight the Long Night. He was anything but one dimensional, except in the last episode where "nop, Jaime just loved Cersei" appeared and that was his whole character.
Just watch this video and remember who he really was.

Here I am. More than a year later, and just now I am able to watch this, because of what they did to Jaime's character. Your video has been in my "Watch Later" list from the day you posted the video and never before I felt like I wanted to be re-exposed to GOT again.
Here I am now, in tears, so thank you!💙
Jaime has been my favourite character for a long time now, and I feel so empty after seeing the end to his story. Seeing his journey from "the things I do for love" to "I pledged to ride North, I intend to honour that pledge." was, in my opinion, one of the best character arcs brought to the story. Seeing a man who was so flawed look his worst impulses head on and decide that he could be better resonated with me on an incredible emotional level. After decades of being blinded by his love for Cersei, he finally had the strength to look the truth in the face and fight for what he knew was truly right. He represented the choice to be better; that no matter how far you go down the wrong path, there's always a way back.
That, for me, is why his ending is such a massive misstep in the understanding of his character. Telling Tyrion he didn't care for the people of King's Landing, abandoning Brienne and going back to Cersei completely unravels the entire journey he has been on for 8 seasons. The entire reason he'd carried the weight of the title, 'Kingslayer' for so long is because he believed that doing what was right, despite your loyalties, is always the right choice to make. Cersei represented the antithesis to this: She would bring out the worst in him because of his love, his loyalty, for her.
I can't believe that Jaime would revert back to his worst impulses, not after all we've seen him do. I'm sad the writers took this route, and I only hope George will follow through with a more satisfying end for such a brilliantly complex character.
I think you miss the part where Jaime is in love with Cersei. The fact that he chose redemption and honor doesn't have to eliminate that, deep down, he needs to be with Cersei no matter what. Isn't that much better and true to the character's logic now that the treath of the Night King is over? I think simple character arks where he would have died with Brienne would'nt be as interesting. I love the fact that the conflict lived with him until the end. It feels much more relatable.
Timmy Davidson George actually knows how to write so jaimes character will get a good end there
@@YoGeeJeTeLoL No, it doesn't make sense, we've seen Jaime's love for Cersei slowly fading since he returned without a hand. You can see by brilliant work of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau all the scenes when he can't believe what Cersei is doing, that he's afraid of her, his realization that she DOES NOT LOVE HIM. It's much more obvious in the books, sure, but you still can see that in the show. It all led to Jaime leaving her and leave her he did, he didn't believe that she had a child on the way, again in the scene where he left her. This ending is just a complete 180 on where it all was going
@@macanaeh Maybe. But my point is exactly this: People, and characters, do have complete 180 degrees turn. And I just can't understand why you guys don't understand that Jaime just would prefer to go and be with Cersei rather than stay in Winterfell. His motivation to go north was always to finaly do what was honorable. And seeing how it turned out south in King's Landing with all the burning... I guess Jaime being with Cersei in the end was pretty honorable too. Don't you see this show is all about paradox of the characters arks? Stop looking for closure!
Kevin Owens That shit ending would’ve made that much sense if Cersei didn’t send a mercenary to kill both of her brothers. He shed that “addiction” for his sister the moment he walked away from her in S7. There is nothing in Jaime’s death that makes sense from a storytelling perspective. Writers are just shit at telling a story so they make his character do 180 in order to fit their awful ending.
I love the camera on john as jamie says "burn them in their homes, burn them in their beds, would you keep your oath then?"
