It was nice to hear a review that wasn't wholly negative in its perspective on this movie. Unlike your review many others in youtube are waaay to emotionally driven.
But on the topic of an unofficial female led Crow movie, my pic is the movie Avenged a.k.a. Savaged (2013). Here is the trailer:
      ruclips.net/video/bWBWDQtn7EY/видео.html
I viewed this film several years ago and it wasn't a bad watch. The main character is deaf and mute, so the actress had to convey her character devastated emotional state physically.

Btw guys the Terrifier 3 was supposed to be up today they post poned it. However David Howard Thornton (Art) was being interviewed and claimed the beginning of this movie is gonna be very controversial. The goriest? What? He stated that that scene with the little girl may be a real scene in the movie. It's starting where 2 ends. So that's in the mental institution? So wouldn't Chris Jericho get killed? Vicky is playing a bigger part and I think the other clown girl isn't going to be in it. I'm so excited for this movie. And yes it's a bit overkill. I'm definitely psyched. But I don't really see the need to have a little girl get ripped apart. I mean I already get the point. If you cross paths with Art . You die in a very brutal manner. So the trailer is out Wednesday so we'll see. Anyone psyched? The running time is going to be much shorter. And a shower scene that's supposed to be really sick. Leone does have great effects. I mean all that gore and like no CGI.🎉

I always like how you’re completely honest in what you like, what you didn’t like and you also try to look at a movie objectively for what it achieves overall on its own, if anything. This is one of the biggest reasons I subbed to you way back when is that you don’t just fall in line with the online crowd, you don’t assume who else will or won’t like a movie but acknowledge the reasons there may be some dislike towards it. And you understand that everyone, including yourself, does have a change of opinion from time to time. In fact, some of your revisited videos are my favs!
Sorry if any of that sounded a bit mushy, it just needed to be said! Great review, Lee! 💓

Im just happy that there are people like yourself who like this movie, the original is one of my all time favourites, but this is not a remake of the 94 movie, this is a new adaption of the graphic novel so I found it easy to separate this from the Proyas movie. And I liked it quite a bit, yes the pacing is off in places and the villians are not the best but I will be getting this on physical media. I also didn't like the ending so much , i heard it was reshot and Bill himself was against it, i do prefer the traditional reunited in the afterlife aspect. Huge fan of the original, and I appreciate this film. The film has a great soundtrack, similar to the OG, and some cool visuals. I liked how they focused on Eric and Shelly's relationship. Despite some odd dialogue choices, I felt Eric's quest for vengeance here a little bit more than the OG. My main issue is the last several minutes. The end boss fight felt tacked on and a bit uninspired. The film had me hooked up until that point. Also, the constant return to limbo could've used some trimming. I know he has to go there when he dies in order to be resurrected again, but we didn't need to see it every time. I'd like to see an edit that trims those parts down.

I haven't seen it yet, but plan to soon. I definitely think this movie should have had different characters rather than Eric and Shelley, but still inhabited the same universe, keeping the cycle of love and vengeance going. With a movie like The Crow, making it a franchise is difficult because of the literal character transformation elements and gothic environment that made the original such an unforgettable experience. The face paint for example...you have to find a reason why that element remains in other iterations of the character, although there can be slight alterations like in the line of graphic novels. I think the horse is a callback to the books... it represented Eric's guilt for not being able to save Shelley, but maybe it sounds like Eric's innocence being lost and having to learn to grow up fast in an abusive home life in the new film. I'd love to see an exact adaptation of the original graphic novel, but we have a legendary film already. Maybe we could get a direct adaptation of some of the other books down the road.
Fun little side note: DMX was going to play in a version called The Crow: Lazarus, which had a villain that had similar powers to him.

  • @thegrimrejoice
    @thegrimrejoice 18 дней назад +1

All right so if I could add my two cents to this whole ordeal... First off yes, I grew up a big fan of the original crow, I saw the movie when it came out and immediately tracked the comic book down, and it's been a favorite of mine for years. Wasn't that big on the sequels, but I could appreciate the soundtracks at least haha.
As for this one. I was willing to give it a chance. I always am. And the conclusion that I came to is that this movie just was not made for me. When the director said that Eric and this movie is supposed to be us, but then he's also post Malone and a drug addict, is where it honestly lost me. I honestly live under a rock, I really don't pay attention to much anymore. I didn't even know who Post Malone was!
Something that I can try to give this film credit for is that it dared to be different. Because whether it's another sequel in the franchise, or God forbid a remake or reboot or whatever they're called these days, I think we can all agree that the last thing we want to see is somebody trying to do Brandon Lee. It needs to be different.
Having that said, Eric's story isn't the only one in the crow. There have been lots of other stories, some even written by James O'Barr himself. I would highly recommend shattered lives in broken dreams to anyone who hasn't read it yet because it's so good.
So I can attempt to see what they were trying to do with this one. I really can. And I gave it as fair of a chances I possibly could. But ultimately I walked out of the theater just saying, this one wasn't for me.

My favorite movie is the original Crow also. I am glad that I decided to go with my impulse (after seeing your spoiler free video) to go see this movie. I expected to hate it (or at the very least, not like it). I went in with an open mind and honestly, I liked this movie. It was different enough to not be disrespectful to the original. The feel of it, and the way Skarsgard played the Crow, is true to the comics. I’m currently arguing with 2 people who are absolutely livid with me for seeing this movie. I’m such a Crow fan that I have 2 commissions by creator James O’Barr. So don’t tell me I’m not a Crow fan because I liked this film. 🙄 There ARE a couple of things I didn’t like and I honestly believe that they could have changed Eric and Shelly’s names and this movie would have been better. Again, Flesh and Blood (Iris Shaw/ the female Crow) should have been the next Crow film. I’ll check out Revenge. Rewatched the original last night for the first time in years, and man, for me, it still holds up! Despite the very 90s music, it doesn't feel dated at all. Brandon was so charming, Michael Wincott was an awesome villain and his henchmen were all distinct, unique characters that didn't just blend into the background. And I was wrong when I said in a previous post of yours that Shelly wasn't really a large part of the movie. Her presence was all over that film and you really get a sense that these two people were truly in love. And the look of the film is so stylish and immervise, and at times it feels like a living comic book. Just a damn good movie.

The Crow with Brandon Lee (RIP) is a cult classic without a doubt and in my case, I love the concept that when someone dies and the soul can't rest in peace, return to life to correct what is wrong. Is really funny that you mentioned that some people say that the new movie is worse than Wicked Prayer, c'mon, I saw Wicked Prayer long time ago and I laughed of how bad it is and unlike you Lee, I have the DVD just to have all the collection, haha. I saw the movie today and I agree that is not a terrible movie, is well shot, good soundtrack, Bill Skarsgård gave everything his best in this role and the entire sequence of the opera are the best parts of the movie, on the contrary, the villains are forgettable and generic, Danny Huston is a good actor, but he can't do too much with the material they gave him to work with and with the action sequences (wich there's only 2), I was thinking that If I was watching John Wick instead of a Crow movie. I also have a soft spot for City Of Angels (Salvation with all his flaws, is a good and decent movie) but I think that I watch (besides the original, of course) City Of Angels instead. Nice and honest review Lee.

Wow Lee this was a badass entertaining good The Crow reboot that stood on its own including a very different outcome after the climax which the 1994 masterpiece The Crow doesn’t have.
The Crow reboot is a hardcore violent revenge action movie that uses pure love as a main theme, shows off 2024 technology mostly cellphones, and shows off current year Detroit.
It’s a very hardcore violent action movie similar to Blade.

I will say this. I thought the first Crow film was the only one worth watching period. I haven't seen any of the other ones. Just because I was a very big Brandon Lee fan. And Bruce. Lol. But I love Rapid Fire and Showdown in Little Tokyo. And I was so upset what happened to him. Imagine how great he'd be by now. The Crow was his last movie and his biggest. The story and Brandon Lee for me made the Crow a classic for me.

It's cool that you like this, but for me, it just honestly feels like a skip. Like I've said before, it feels to me this franchise is cursed. The first movie, the star of the movie died while making it, the sequels I felt sucked, the video game sucked, even Sting when he started dressing like The Crow, his return match to the ring first match under The Crow look against Hollywood Hulk Hogan the ending of the match was botched. And now there is this movie. Just something about this franchise here it seems. But anyways, thank you for your thoughts on this, Lee.

I went and saw this- knowing I would enjoy whatever ride we would go on. I couldn’t get it out of my head, and I had to go back and watch it again. It does get better with another watch. The pacing doesn’t seem as off kilter- and even though the villain is generic- like you said, the story is about Eric and Shelley. I’m glad to see people that are enjoying it for what it is and not just hopping on the hate train just because. Bill Skarsgard knocked it out. And it’s a pity that people will miss out on his performance. Even Twigs was an empathetic and good Shelley. I didn’t want her to die. 3.5/5 as well. Take care!

And like you agree it has pacing issues and it's bout 20 minutes too long, imo it should have ended after the Opera set piece. some the other flaws it has i was able to overlook cuz it was very entertaining, and that's what movies are supposed to be imo. Thx for being one of the few people that don't hate movies just for the sake of hating them.

You say that it's the second best Crow movie in a franchise that, besides the very 1st one, has been much maligned due to popular opinions about each entry not being as good as the OG. I guess that's something that could be hard to see with non-biased eyes among fans who hold Brandon Lee's legacy with such reverence. It's almost like Highlander.
I must have seen the original on VHS and on cable TV numerous times since I was a teen (I'm 42 now) and even watch movie reactors being introduced to its cinematic beauty on RUclips, as it is something that has been highly influential in my growing years. Yet, at the end of the day, it might just really boil down to a lot of people not being accepting of this entry in the franchise as a re-adaptation of the graphic novel as it practically veers away from the source material in terms of tone, atmosphere and vital story elements along with the reality that, yes, it's not the first movie made in a better way. Expectations, huh? It indeed might have been better if the protagonists were not Eric and Shelley, instead being a standalone Crow film just like the graphic novels with their own tales to tell.
I do appreciate its existence on its own merits, much like you, and think it's a solid entry. 💯

Lee not sure if you are aware of the Devil May Cry video game series? It has the same situation as The Crow 94 and The Crow 24 movies.
Devil may cry is a Japanese action game series featuring a protagonist named Dante who’s half devil/human who’s full time job is getting hired to kill devils. Originally it was only 4 games but the developers wanted to westernize the series, so they cancelled the OG series and made a more western targeted reboot.
I kid you not that the original Dante resembles Brandon Lee Eric Draven Crow while the reboot Dante resembles Bill’s Eric reboot Crow.
The Devi may cry reboot was meet with the same hate as the Crow reboot. I know is off topic but this the second funny situation I experienced involving some of favorite entertainment franchises.

Just saw it today, and honestly it was pretty good. I obviously prefer ‘94 but honestly I prefer City of Angels too, CoA is too fun 😂. My main issue was in the original with probably 2 minutes of screen time they flesh out Eric and Shelly’s love perfectly in quick flashes, in 30 minutes in a boring first act they don’t really do that at all and it doesn’t feel like their relationship is something Eric would be brought back for. All in all though it’s good.

Also, one thing i am surprised no one has mentioned is why didnt he just tatt the face paint on. I mean him and his tattoos are a whole point in the movie hell they even make a point of him and her getting tattooed together. The tattoo gun and ink is there and he just smears it on with his fingers? Just have him tattoo it on, he has the healing ability so as he puts it on it wil heal. He literally had 2 hrs before he had to be at the oprea house.... plenty of time for him to tatt it.

I've seen it only once few years a go, I really liked it, but I am not a die hard fan.
However I have a soft spot for all sorts of melo dramatic emo romances (yes, I love Halloween End).
I think 2024 The Crow's script/story/dialogues were pretty so so, and director's vision was not imaginative enough to make up for script's weaknesses.
Movie is pretty dull at times, but over all it's fine, and has some strong and beautiful moments.
It's not a very good movie, but I liked it.

There was a way this could have been a hit, but It missed the mark with the Majority of fans. I’m seeing some folks that enjoyed this movie, and i’m genuinely happy yall did but when You spend $50 million on something it needs to have a pretty broad appeal to be successful and this just aint it. The 1994 movie might have had a dark aesthetic but Brandons Crow was a very easy hero to root for because he was genuinely a good dude. When You turn Your protagonists into drug addicts who meet in rehab then get out and spend their time partying and doing more drugs that story just doesnt have the appeal the OG film had.

Usually I agree with most of your takes, but this one I can't. The plot holes, the bad scriptwriting, unnecessary scenes, generic action sequences, and the lack of chemistry between both Skarsgård and FKA Twigs (who should never act again) made this very difficult to enjoy. Nothing felt natural or organic whatsoever. It was devoid of everything that made the 1994 version great. I didn't spend money on it, so I can't complain much, but I'll never watch this garbage again.
