  • In this abstract watercolour landscape painting I have employed a variety of techniques. Wet on wet, blotting, layering and using a palette knife to achieve greater depth of focus. I try to keep the composition as abstract as possible while adding some sense of detail. This painting has elements of my previous watercolor paintings. An illustration on my evolving painting style. Hope you enjoy this demonstration and please subscribe if you have enjoyed watching this video.
    Watercolour paints: Winsor & Newton Professional. More expensive than most other paints but best quality.
    Watercolour Paper: Arches 140 lb cold press. Great paper but also expensive. I do notice a big difference when using a 100% cotton fiber paper.
    Editing software: DaVinci Resolve. GREAT FREE software. Short learning curve with lots of YT tutorials.

    I really appreciate your lessons and hope you find your way back to teaching via your channel. I feel that some watercolor artists over complicate their tutorials and also the medium in general. I love your approach!

    When my paper gets to that soggy stage, i think my painting is ruined, but you kept going. It looks good.

    Muy interesante. El artista deja a la pintura de acuarela correr por el agua a su gusto y luego, artista y material van actuando juntos durante toda la obra. Interactúan y se hermanan perfectamente.

    Not nervous style ... good feeling👌✨. Your landscape art is right to be called "Abstract Landscape painting". You can enjoy the contingency arising from bleeding😚. I also like watercolor bleeding, so I felt a sense of affinity☕😌.

    I am so glad that I discovered your channel. Your process is very meditative. As far as I can see, you are not using a block or board. I was wondering how do you keep your paper flat while painting like this? Also, do you plan most of your painting beforehand or just let it go? Thank you in advance for answering!

    • @look4light
      @look4light  2 года назад +3

      Hi EK. Apologies for the late reply. Thanks for your interest in my watercolour paintings.
      I use a watercolour block pad. Pads of watercolour paper have glue around the edgies allowing you to use them on location etc. I also tape my paper to a wooden board, any kind of masking tape seems to work for me. In this painting I wanted a clean border so I used the green painters tape to create the clean edge. AND, I do about 6 paintings for every video. 5 of them end up on the studio floor. I learn from my mistakes, each mistake gets me closer to my vision.
      Hope this response helps.

      The tape is a regular house painters tape. Any hardware store will carry it.

    • @look4light
      @look4light  3 года назад +1

      Hi Ana, the brushes are a Shanlian Hubi Chinses Calligraphy Brush. You can get them on Amazon. Not expensive. And the fine, long tip brush I use for my signature and any controlled work is a sable hair brush. Sable hair give you great control when accuracy is important.

    Do you see this painting in your head before you start, or do you follow the paint?

    • @look4light
      @look4light  2 года назад +3

      Hi Hazel, i do see the painting in my head. What you don't see in the video are all the test paintings I do. I like to do at least 6 draft compositions/painting to get comfortable with the landscape. Then I start videoing the watercolour painting.
