Well, to be fair, the Paper Mario universe takes place in an entirely different universe from the normal Mario universe, so it’s possible that normal Mario is 24-26 while Paper Mario is 30.
I think that it was just a fourth wall break, since SMB was released in 1985, and this game was in development during the 30th anniversary of that game.
Guys guys listen i know why people hate toads i mean look at Sullypwns for exmple i coulden watch his paper Mario color splash lp becuase of how much toad abuse is in that lp i can't take it okey i'm really upset about this
I have one! Its mostly an artist nitpick, but when Huey mentioned “he just mixed all the paint together!” Thats not what happens. You would get a neutral brown because theres a mix of warm and cool tones that are opposites on the color wheel (for those who dont know, the opposites are red/green, orange/blue, and yellow/purple) and when you mix them you get a toned neutral, you cannot make black paint from two colors, you have to use pigment. I know its a kids game but there are people who HAD to have studied colors to get their art degree working at Nintendo to point this out. For f*cks sake Nintendo, this isnt how colors work and you know it!
The thing you mentioned about the Spike’s line in that railroad car just reminded me: If they can put NPCs in the Big Paint Star levels that give you a clue of which Thing card you need to be able to play, why not do that for all 7 koopalings? They made it work well with the bigger half of them(especially with Lemmy), yet Morton, Wendy, and Roy just get shafted from that treatment. Edit: Nevermind. Ludwig was shafted from it too. They revealed the tail cards were important, but not the balloons.
Besides Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam, and Paper Mario: the Oragami King, you also have Mario + Rabbids Kindom Battle and Puzzle and Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition.
I mean I've played the Puzzle and Dragons: Super Mario Bros Edition and while I thought it was cool as an idea, in theory, there really isn't much you can do in most circumstances other than go glass cannon if you don't want everything to take half a year. The original Puzzle and Dragons phone game had monsters that also give boosts to things like HP and RCV (determines how much health you heal when you match the heart orbs) and not just Attack with their leader skills, in addition to monsters with leader skills that straight up reduce damage taken as a reward for doing a certain thing. I expect there to be a difference in time taken to fight an enemy depending on whether I'm built for more survivability or built for more damage, but since there are almost NO leader skills in Super Mario Bros. Edition that give you survivability without at least OK attack boosts, you choose between taking several years to kill ONE enemy or having to play a team that dies to almost any sort of considerable attack, in a game where some enemies have skills that let them take a shot at you before you get any sort of chance to hit them.
I get Happy when someone mentions Puzzle and dragons Super Mario bros edition. Also @@yamatanooroshikirin4001yes, I do agree I found myself having fun most of the time. (Saying that because the star worlds took like a week each)
Something I noticed about this game is that not all of the enemies are, well, "enemies". Some of them are pretty chill and you can talk with them. I feel they made the enemies more "human" by giving them feelings and opinions aside from those given by Bowser or just the "fight Mario or die trying" mindset
Would it be better if the original designs we're the enemies and the new designs are the npcs i know its not much but it's a little thing to make them stand out

As creul as this sounds, I would seriously love a full video of you just ranting over a game. Just ranting. Reminds me of Clement’s Sonic 06 3 and a half hour review!

44:20 One thing that always bothered me about this fight was that you couldn't even use all of your attacks against Bowser. He's spiky, so forget most of your jump cards. It's fine to have a spiky boss that requires you to use a certain strategy, but the Final Boss? Y'know, the one that is supposed to test EVERY ability you've mastered throughout the game?
That's why the first two games gave you the spike shield badge so you could still stomp Bowser with your jump! But these latest games hate the very concept of fun, so, you know...
Worst than that, as far as i know bowser is the only boss to have a resistance to things meaning you can throw the strongest kind of attacks and somehow do LESS than a couples of hammers, i mean it makes sense because he's the final boss but that suck when you have prepared everything (no pun intended) just to see bowser ducking and doing less than you'd expect
"Now, initially I thought this was an intelligent system..." The devs are already called Intelligent Systems. They didn't feel the need to add and actual intelligent system
33:08 wait wait wait, so you're meaning to tell me that Huey, a bucket that's made of paper and is clearly 2D, is able to somehow open a lid that is also 2D and empty out sand, which is technically 3D, of which physically had no possibility of entering Huey? And if Huey's voice was being muffled by sand that comes out from the top, would that mean that the lid is their mouth? And in what point would the lid have opened in order to let sand in? You're a piece of paper that's able to drift down in descent, of which you do only if you were, say knocked unconscious, when you can clearly fly, hover, levitate, whatever you want to call it. Huey claims to have gone under the sand, but unless there was some force that would cause extra weight in order to actually submerge, then you would just sit atop the sand, going with the current. The only possibility I can see is the paint, because you can't paint without Huey, but that doesn't seem to stop them from being able to float at all. Also, you go around and collect hammer upgrades to increase the amount of paint you can hold, but no painting without Huey. Where is it stored? MAKE UP YOUR MIND NINTENDO!
17:13 "Where's your evidence? They're identical quintuplets; It's impossible to tell them apart! Don't take it so hard!" Is Nintendo doing this shit on purpose? No really, who wrote this diologue after Sticker Star's reception? This just seems passive aggressive and petty.
32:57 This part freaked me out so much when I first played this game. I was pretty attached to Huey as a character and genuinely thought he had died. Of course some of you may say "He's a pretty important character I doubt they'd kill him off mid-way through the story" but I'm not the type to think about that because some games are unpredictable and will kill off major characters halfway through stories. I doubt a Mario game would but it's still a possibility and I totally thought it happened. I can't imagine how terrifying this scene would be for any younger children playing it.
@@kotavelaz1987 continuing the potential spoiler: Man I quit the game after that happened. Not because I was sad, mind you. Because that death scene made me laugh so hard because I was SURE it was gonna lead up to a joke, being a parody of obvious character deaths not being deaths. Because WHY would exploding suddenly kill bob-ombs? I stg it's never worked like that in paper Mario before And then I went from amused to annoyed as the game tried to make me mourn for a character that shouldn't be dead. I wanna go back to that game and finish it but man that killed any interest in me for finishing it. It's like if they tried to say a goomba died from headbutting someone even though they do that all the time. I don't get it
@@bigbadgammagnome Continuing potential spoilers even two years later: Funnily enough, I initially thought you were going to talk about the stupidity of Olivia's death at the end even if, yeah, Bobby's death (and life) were even more hilariously pointless and nonsensical. I still can't believe Nintendo actually killed off like three characters who act like children in that game between Bobby, Olivia, and technically Olly (that stupid brat), especially after they let a companion as terrible as Kersti live/get revived. _Origami King_ is surprisingly dark though even ignoring those deaths between things like the composite soldiers, having you break the Stapler's "jaw" to finish it off even though it acts like a dog to the point of even whimpering in the end, and Bowser Jr. hilariously & unceremoniously getting almost fatally shredded by The Scissors.
38:20 I just played through this game again and when Kamak took away all of my cards and I used the battle spin I accidentally got the compass replica. I didn’t want to use it because I knew it would make me flee and have to start the fight over but I HAD to because there was no other choice! So yeah, I basically had to fight Kamak twice. Wasn’t fun. Also he KEEPS your cards if you flee and if you try to fight him again right away he says to get some battle cards and then we’ll fight. First of all why tf would he say that? Wouldn’t he be able to easily pummel me if I didn’t have any battle cards? Second of all, hell no! I’m not going all the way back to port prisma and spend a truckload of coins on new battle cards because the game forced me to flee and kept my cards! So I said screw that and just closed out the game without saving and started the fight over that way. So lesson learned: if the compass replica appears in the battle spin during the Kamak fight, tap FAR FAR away from it
You know I question if there was a super easy way to make this game a TON more enjoyable. Toss out the cards, no not all of them just the dups. Make all of the cards colorless, allow items that would restore a paint color in battle, limit the number of times you could use a thing card per turn, make it so you keep all the cards after battle, have the world give parts of a battle card or thing card when filling in all the color spots, make it clear how much paint costs to fully fill in each card (WITH NUMBERS), and for a touch of flavor/style have enemy cards spawn based off of how you beat them. Gomba you get from stomping on it per say. What you'd be left with technically would be a mage trying to solo a whole game but I think the changes would be for the better and you'd WANT to level up your paint meter then, and that would still be making an RPG game without an EXP bar technically. I do encourage if you guys think that would fix a ton of the game or not, would make boss battles a hell of a lot more fair and they could even afford to be more subtle then.
27:15 I could be wrong, but could you actually catch the shy bandit if you went a different route? Rather than going left at the yellow toad house go right and then go left in the forest and left again at the deep blue inn. It cuts out a large amount of back tracking that Charriii's route takes right where the two routes converge so you may be able to JUST make it in time. There are also fewer levels so less delay from input lag.
I think it would be even worse morally because you'd be 5 feet away but it still finishes, since it's time based and not movement based. He got caught mid-travel and lost all of the paint in Vortex Island. It could've been a loss at literally near touch distance.
The ironic thing is I had just started playing this game again before this upload, and I actually enjoy it much more than sticker star, and all though it isn't as simple as sticker star, I still feel its much more developed, however I respect your opinion Charrii. (Edit) Your toad impression is the best I've ever heard.
42:23 Funny story, until I replayed the game a year or two ago, I had no idea what the Green Paint Star repainted because I somehow missed this little bit of dialogue
15:55 I see your point and agree, but purely in the context of this game, the enemy cards are made more useful by having your summon stick around for a while. I still don’t use them, but they’re still useful; I could say the same of buffs in a normal RPG, my not using them doesn’t make them bad.
Honestly, I think the rage that you shared was absolutely hilarious. I think that people are being too damn soft as always. If you wanna express you feelings on a game, do it however you wanted to. I expected you to rip Sticker Star to shredsssssss and I’m glad we didn’t have it any way. Still, Great video man!! Keep doing ya thing, we got one more
2:48 Turns out the dev team went straight into Color Splash after finishing Sticker Star. They didn’t even think to wait until they got any reviews to get any criticisms. I’ll say it again, Sticker Star is worse than Hotel Mario. Hotel Mario didn’t have a major effect on the series while Sticker Star did. Honestly, one could see Sticker Star and Color Splash as representative of the worst parts of the bland and inoffensive era of Mario that started with New Super Mario Bros. Wii, none of the creativity seen in the GameCube era. I’m going to say this, Nintendo is mishandling the Mario franchise by not doing enough with what they have. Think about it, imagine how fun would it be if in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, they replaced the Boom Boom fight in World 6 with a fight against King K. Rool (Going by General K. Rool), Fawful, or Wario. Imagine if Origami King didn’t have any of the character restrictions that plagued Sticker Star and Color Splash Imagine if in the Mario sports games, we had the likes of Mona, King K. Rool, Captain Syrup, Jimmy T., or Chunky Kong appear. Imagine a Wario Land game that had Waluigi, Mona, and Jimmy T. tagging along.
I never finished Color Splash, so time to get the game spoiled for me. 34:51 We interrupt Paper Mario: Color Splash to bring you the Slash Beast boss fight from Mega Man X4.
I love the remix of the Airship Theme from SMB3 when the airships came down to steal te giant buckets of paint. Also, the Rescue Toad #34 running to catch up to the train reminds me of Slash Beast from Megaman X4 when you first fight him. He runs to catch up to the train.
It seems like the bosses had almost a trial and error kind of design, which can work but when out of dozens of options only one works, is not intuitive at all, barley any hints are given, and you often have to back track, it hurts the gameplay. Why am I forced to lose just because I needed an item that is not only CONSUMABLE but easy to miss. Unlike old games that did something similar you didn't have to waste 2 hours trying to figure out what to do only to figure you need a really specific item from ten levels a go that no one mentioned How were kids supposed to beat this game, especially the ones who would just skip text?
Tbf if you lose a boss by missing an item that's on you because the game hints at what you need to fight them beforehand. And you can get hints on what you need from the know it all toad before going into the battle, which is probably what you should be doing first. Plus for most of the bosses you're forced to pick up the items you need to beat them after first finding them. So you'll probably still have them with you later on.
I’m so glad my first paper Mario game was Origami king. I’m very happy that when I compare Chariii’s complaints of SS and CS, I find that (at least to me) they’re fixed or actually made better. For example, the cards and/or stickers are consumed after one use, but the weapons in OK have much better durability and you always get them at full durability. Additionally, I find the enemy and boss rings unique, you solve a puzzle for each turn, and you can choose who to fight. In enemy battles, (if you solve the puzzle correctly) you can ALWAYS hit 4 enemies, just in different ways. And I can’t remember anything that would replace Things in OK. Oh and accessories exist, you can raise stats and have useful accessories (or cosmetic accessories in the case of the retro mixtape and the Sakura petal confetti bag) Sorry for the long comment that nobody asked for-
I hate that battle system with a fiery passion. (In all seriousness though, I lost someone dear to me, so I’ll take any video I can. Thanks Charriii5.)
I personally love your content, with you making jokes about games we love or hate and the way you deliver them, it’s great, but for those who take these videos way to seriously, they obviously did not read the disclaimer at the beginning of your videos. That’s their fault, not your charriii5. Keep up the good work, I love your content.
I had a fun time with this game. I don’t think it’s that bad, and I genuinely love the story and art design. And the music was amazing! I also found the battle system to be pretty enjoyable to use. That’s just my opinion of course, you can think whatever you want of this game.
19:03 My thoughts were. Preparing For Emergency Landing! Like what happens to the ship and submarine in Sonic Colors. I didn’t expect it to freaking explode!
@@crichie21 Yeah, since sharing a surface-level aesthetic similarity makes it the same game, the way that every shooter is just DOOM 102,849 just since it has guns.

I love how a good 10 minutes was just fussing about the system and mechanics. I love the game for it's paint aesthetic, but otherwise it's just a reskin of sticker star. Nintendo knew it and just didn't care.
38:46 this area is nice, with the like, ONLY things in the game you can actually miss the first time around, but..... the missing paint part is stupid. It took me SO LONG to find it. I just assumed that it was in the real world, due to the shy guys not being able to go into the game but NOPE! The missing paint area is some cloud's eye and that's REALLY hard to notice.
36:35 Another thing about the backtracking is at least you're doing SOMETHING, even if your walking between twilight town and creepy steeple, your fighting enemies and felling helpless on your own, then growing a relation with Vivian and feeling more powerful. And your going for something that makes sense, your finding clues at creepy steeple as to ???????'s name, here your getting a random basin. A BASIN! OF ALL THINGS, A BASIN!

Poop Colored Bowser would be a fun change for a boss fight

Edition.
Also Bug Fables!
And hopefully he does Sparks of Hope when it comes out.
@@DeltaBlazin bug fables is actually really good in my opinion

Huey: hey Mario, is it just me or is someone shouting that we'll never see something coming.
You're almost done, nice voice acting, and awesome Scott the woz refrence
This guy would be great at Charriii5.

And then I went from amused to annoyed as the game tried to make me mourn for a character that shouldn't be dead. 2:33 yup thats all our reaction to the battle system in color splash after playing sticker star
Fr
So lesson learned: if the compass replica appears in the battle spin during the Kamak fight, tap FAR FAR away from it
32:18 I always imagined the shy guys playing the flute and it just being like ear piercingly bad
Idea: hold enough of a certain card an you can laminate it, making it permanent so it doesn't disappear after use
That would be good IF it doesn't contribute to the limited card inventory
16:00 no no, you have a point, a really good point and a really good idea that shouldn't have DUMPED LIKE A TRASH
100%-ting this game I like to quote PointCrow
"Do you ever get collectors anxiety?"
"In huge open-world RPGs?"
Where there is so much to do so much to grab

Hahahaha, you are so fired!
42:49
Fun Fact, Miyamoto said he's 24/25 ap it's probably just Paper Mario instead of the "actual" Mario
15:55 I see your point and agree, but purely in the context of this game, the enemy cards are made more useful by having your summon stick around for a while. I still don’t use them, but they’re still useful; I could say the same of buffs in a normal RPG, my not using them doesn’t make them bad.
39:13 really thought this was gonna be a "And that was Paper Mario Color Splash, can I go now?"

Imagine if Origami King didn’t have any of the character restrictions that plagued Sticker Star and Color Splash
Imagine if in the Mario sports games, we had the likes of Mona, King K. Rool, Captain Syrup, Jimmy T., or Chunky Kong appear.
Imagine a Wario Land game that had Waluigi, Mona, and Jimmy T. tagging along.

40:22 …yep, that one got me, that’s for sure.
Unlike old games that did something similar you didn't have to waste 2 hours trying to figure out what to do only to figure you need a really specific item from ten levels a go that no one mentioned
How were kids supposed to beat this game, especially the ones who would just skip text?
Oh and accessories exist, you can raise stats and have useful accessories (or cosmetic accessories in the case of the retro mixtape and the Sakura petal confetti bag)
