The problem I have is when people give lukewarm "that's fine" non-critiques. They don't want to give a a serious analysis or say something that may hurt someone's feelings.
Yes, that is frustrating, I’ve experienced that as well! I have a tendency to think these folks don’t have a level of understanding (or I suppose care) to give constructive feed-back. The best critique I’ve gotten, better than in all my work experience and maybe better than 4 years in art school even, was when I attended Spectrum Live a few years ago and signed up for a pro portfolio review. They gave me a lot to chew on.
