2014 Nissan Maxima - UpRev Tune - *POPS AND BANGS*

  • Опубликовано: 9 ноя 2020
  • A 2014 Nissan Maxima w/ a CVT getting tuned through UpRev w/ an ARC License. Very happy with the numbers, and the tuner went above and beyond what I wanted and received. The car is tuned on 93 octane fuel through UpRev with an ARC License to add the pops and bangs you hear, as well as rolling anti-lag. Find the mod list below.
    Mod List:
    OBX Headers
    Jemini Performance Y-Pipe
    3" Greddy single exit exhaust with a 3" Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator
    3.5" Custom cold air intake
    Peak numbers were just over 300 at 307 horsepower and roughly 226-230 foot-pounds of torque. Finalized numbers were 296 horsepower and 207 foot-pounds of torque.
    A big shoutout goes to Dane over at SZR Pro in Houston for making this a reality. None of this would have been possible without his help and expertise.

      It's a brand new trans, only reason I wanted to push it this hard. I'm planning on staying ahead of the maintenance, as by 15k I'll be adding the trans cooler and doing a flush and refill, as well as the external filter renewal. For the most part I don't push it every day, so it should last a short minute, and when it blows either time to sell or do a swap. Easy peasy.

We understand this isn't a performace sedan, it's got the most unreliable transmission that I've ever seen in a production car, but at the end of the day it's to put a build together. Everyone has their own vision for how their vehicle will look/feel. For me, I chose coilovers becuase I wanted the adjustability in ride height, as well as stiffness adjustability. And the stock shocks blow out after 100k, which is a decent lifespan, and they are comfy, but you're never going below stock height before blowing them out. And for those of us who like a lowered vehicle, you gotta do what you gotta do, and sacrifices are made.

    • @tuneda35
      @tuneda35  3 года назад +8

      It’s basically bolt in’s until I do the 6 speed swap. Headers, bigger y-pipe, amd the 3” single exit create a good exit flow, and the massive 3.5” intake creates a good amount of inward air flow for breathing. After the swap, injectors and fuel pump are in the itinerary. I just want 350 to the wheels and I’ll be happy. The tune itself was roughly 900-1k. Hope that helps!

    • @balmainattitude
      @balmainattitude 3 года назад +2

      @@tuneda35 pretty dope bro. I have the jemini y-pipe, pulley, K&N intake, transmission oil cooler but that’s it so far. I definitely want to get headers and finish the exhaust but I wasn’t sure which way to go, especially with the headers now that I bought the ypipe separately. How difficult were the headers to install? Also that’s dope you’re looking to swap the transmission not many people put as much effort into the Max’s like that. 💪🏾

      @tuneda35  3 года назад +2

      @@balmainattitude Haha yeah man, other factors add into it but yeah. Should be a fun project! The headers I honestly tried for two weeks and just busted bolts loose and couldn’t reach certain ones so I took it to a local shop and they took care of it for me. I just gave up 😂 But honestly man, exhaust wise, just pick what you think sounds best! I’ll be swapping to true dual here soon, so the single exit will be retiring to someone else. And the tune I wouldn’t advise if you think your trans is on the way out. I only went this far because I just had a new CVT thrown in and figured it would get accustomed to the torture I throw at it and not get ruined quicker. If you do tune, I’d suggest going softer if you’re pushing higher mileage, just to keep “reliability”

    • @tuneda35
      @tuneda35  3 года назад +3

      Ohhhh here we go 😂 It’s an UpRev tune that I had done by a local tuner shop. You’re going to need a 3.5” intake that’s routed behind the front bumper, headers, an aftermarket y-pipe, and whatever exhaust you desire. It’s basic bolt in’s, but they’re hard to come across as nobody really makes them. Intake you would have to have custom fabbed. All of the parts needed are in the description and across multiple comments. And thank you man!

    • @tuneda35
      @tuneda35  3 года назад +2

      @@AGSpice In all honesty, if you want to get tuned be careful. Don’t let them turn the ETC off, which is the throttle control, which is what kills the transmissions. And I’d say to honestly just shoot for 250-275 reliably. I’ll be retuning myself to get some safer numbers for daily driving. This wasn’t what I expected out of the car, and so now I have to dial her back in for safety amd reliability. If you want to get meat what I did, you’re going to need a bigger intake and some kind of exhaust mods. What exhaust mods are up to you as it’s your vehicle, but having no catalytic converters makes it where you can shoot flames safely. Just keep that in mind

I honestly recommend adding a trans cooler if you don't already have one. I'll be throwing mine on when it comes time to flush, and I also just picked up an oil cooler because of the same reason. But that's all you can really do maintenance and preventive wise. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    • @tuneda35
      @tuneda35  3 года назад +1

      There wasn't any slippage, mainly due to the fact that it's a brand new transmission. It did overheat on the way home so I had to stop on a 2 hour drive home to let it cool down, but other than that she runs fine. I went ahead and had it turned down by another tuner and it runs better now, after this inital tune it would die after a pull, but now (don't know what the new tuner changed so much) but it definitely holds the power a lot more responsibly now and allows for a lot more pulls before trying to overheat.

    • @tuneda35
      @tuneda35  2 года назад

      There's a key difference between your older Maxima and this one. The transmission being that key factor. Torque is what kills these transmissions, and I for one have already blown one so I prefer not to do that to a new one. If I were to have 6mt swapped it, there would be a big difference as well, just keep in mind this is on a stock CVT transmission.

    Does a tune get rid of the transmission lag?

    • @tuneda35
      @tuneda35  2 года назад

      To an extent. If you remove too much you start doing damage to the CVT, so there’s a setting that limits how far it pushes the transmission and at first I turned it off, but when I re-tuned I put it back on and the car doesn’t run into any issues anymore.

  • @jeremygrab7548
    @jeremygrab7548 2 года назад

    I'm struggling here because the car comes stock with 290. So you did the intake, exhaust, and tune to only achieve 6 more hp?

    • @tuneda35
      @tuneda35  2 года назад

      So the 290 that is advertised is an exaggerated number that was demonstrated on just the motor, not connected to the transmission or being limited by a computer. Once the motor is connected to the CVT and connected to the ECU, it limits the output of the motor in order to protect the CVT. So realistically, and this has been tested by others, you drive on only aorund 230ish hp, somewhere around that mark. So all in all, I gained quite a bit, but a majority of it was just allowing the motor freedom within it's operating parameters. Hope that answers the question. No I didn't gain only 6 hp, the HP readings that you're seeing on the chart are directly to the wheels, so with the powertrain loss, I would have made roughly 320-340 to the motor, so if you're going off base benchmarks from the advertised "290 HP", you would see an increase in roughly 50 HP with intake, exhaust and tune

You just follow the lines and slap her in between, make sure all the fittings are tight, and you might have to drill a few holes for clearance and hose routing. @@clampgodkale2046 My apologies my man, woke up and chose violence this morning. It's not that you're hating, it's that most people don't "respect" this because its a CVT, and it just gets old. But it's lasted since I had her tuned, which is over 3 months, and I've put over 10k on it since. But keep in mind this is a fresh transmission. I had it warrantied out, then went on the rampage of building from there and getting it tuned.

      @@tuneda35 trust me Ik the cvt jokes 🤦🏾‍♂️ and do you have to get all the headers and stuff at the same day of the tune cause I plan on changing the headers and stuff 1 by 1

    Only reason it hangs and pops is because of that stupid can on the back of his exhaust

      That "stupid can", is a muffler. If that wasn't in place it would have been obnoxiously loud. The bangs and pops are part of the tune. It is a fuel map, and it fluctuates dependent on engine variables.

    Rolling anti-lag on an NA car rofl. People will spend money on anything these days.

      And that power curve is horrible for a VQ. You can tune these things to be much flatter than that FYI

      @tuneda35  2 года назад

      With the stock transmission, that’s about as good as I’m going to get. And I wasn’t paying for the anti-lag, that was just an added feature. No cats and a big ‘ole intake meant time for a tune, or it would be time for a new motor soon. Can’t see why the latter choice would make more sense.

      @@kennethpowers8995 Also the power curve is going to look terrible because of the transmission. Due to it being a CVT, it’s always varying the ratio, so it’s never going to be a 1:1 unless I did the 6mt swap, and unless someone wants to sponsor me 5k for parts, this is as good as it’s going to get.
