Being on the boundary of several tectonic plates, the Philippines is home to many active volcanoes, including the current Mount Mayon eruption and the Mount Taal eruption. The eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991 was the second largest volcanic eruption of the twentieth century. The Philippines is also in the path of almost every Pacific Typhoon, and Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in 2013 Leyte resulted in thousands losing their lives and millions homeless. 🇵🇭
The climate of the Philippines is tropical, with a Tropical Rainforest climate in the east, a Tropical Monsoon climate in central areas and a Tropical Savannah climate in the far west, and sheltered parts of Luzon. 🇵🇭
Manila is the national capital, and home to almost one-third of the country's estimated 110 million population. Cebu City and Davao City are the two other large population centers. 🇵🇭
Filipinos (known locally as Pinoys) are a unique blend of Austronesian Island people with Spanish names that speak American English, as a result of the Philippines being ruled during colonial times by Spain and the USA. Because of their connections with the USA, many Filipinos or their sons and daughters have gone on to famous careers in entertainment, such as Lea Salonga, Lou Diamond Phillips, apl.de.ap, Arnel Pineda, Enrique Iglesias and Monique Lhuillier. Their most famous sports champion is undoubtedly Manny Pacquiao, the only boxer in history to win a championship in eight weight categories. 🇵🇭
Most Filipinos are Catholic, a result of centuries of missionary work during the Spanish colonial period. Despite colonialism, however, all Filipinos speak one or more of the 180 native languages and dialects, with Tagalog and Cebuano making up half of all speakers. The Filipino language (along with English) is the official language, and is a standardised form of Tagalog. 🇵🇭
More than 10% of Filipinos live and work abroad in an attempt to overcome the difficult economic situation for most in the country. Most merchant ships around the world have majority Filipino crews, while the women find work as domestic maids, nannies and nurses. Many Filipinas look abroad to marry and succeed as many Western men admire them for their famous beauty. 🇵🇭
The economy of the Philippines is about one-third agriculture, with rice being the main subsistence crop. Electronics and high tech have recently made in-roads and are now the largest exports. Government corruption, and poor infrastructure, however, hold back the country from fulfilling its potential, where neighbours like Malaysia and Taiwan have succeeded. This corruption reached its height during the rule of Ferdinand Marcos, and his wife Imelda Marcos, who had a collection of thousands of shoes from the embezzlement of the public purse, while millions lived in poverty. 🇵🇭

American born filipino on both parents sides. Visited family there 4 times. Really nice documentary and excellent aerial drone footage. Greetings from Seattle Washington.

Been all over the Philippines 8 years in a row. My favourite land to Travel to. Friendliest people in SouthEast Asia (been in all countries there).
That’s amazing to hear! I can’t wait to explore more of the Philippines! 😍
Thank you,. For the complements 😍
I heard from everyone had visited the Philippines 🇵🇭, they fall in love with the people and culture!!!🥰😍💯🌎❤
Thank you for the kind words. We appreciate it so much.
We respect foreigners and locals alike.
I learnt their history now and its sad the problem they encountered under US and other occupation. They still keep Catholic FAITH AND Spanish names, Spain was far kinder to them than Americans. Love from India.
Oh The Philippines, truly a gem of the world. Aside from its breathtaking nature, it’s people are it’s treasure. So warm and welcoming.
I love the Philippines 🇵🇭. As soon as I set foot in Cebu City, I fell in love with the country. Not only for its natural beauty but the people are the friendliest. Even random people smile at you and greet you. I haven’t been there Since 2019, and I truly miss it so much. Hopefully in 2023 I can return once again.
Fits my experience! I was in Cebu just a year before you
you did a great documentary,I am Italian but I know that country very well, having been there more than 20 times and having a Filipino wife.
Bene gratzie!
Filipino's are some of the nicest people I know and went to school with in San Diego, CA. I'm sad this happened to them. I'm glad they got their independence. I was excited when my country S.Sudan gained it's independence as well. May you flourish and prosper in Jesus name.
Amen 🙏. Is San Diego in Mexico?
@@arolemaprarath6615 No. San Diego is in California. Mexico was only 25-42 minutes away from me. San Diego, is very close to the border.
Well done, you presented this colorful culture in this beautiful video so well I watched it several times! Thank you 🙏
Best country documentary on this platform! I strongly recommend watching the other videos in the series!
Thanks very much! And I appreciate you coming to the premiere!
Just liked and subscribed after this comment, I'm keen.
Just started this one though.

As a Filipino and Philippine history enthusiast, I can say that you nailed every bit of information in this video. This is one of the most educational contents about the Philippines I have seen so far! Kudos! 👏💯🎯🇵🇭🔥💗
He got the ones about Rizal, Del Pilar, Jaena and the Revolution wrong.
The Philippines has everything..beautiful modern cities, spectacular mountains & amazing beaches, wow!
Philippines is my birth country of which am proud of it.
I live in the Northern central Luzon Pangasinan.
Thank you for making documentary of the Philippines.
Thanks for writing. And glad you liked the video!
I am an American expat, living with my Filipina wife, in Pasig City, National Capital Region. Thank you for this positive overview of our beautiful home and its beautiful people.
The only edit I would request is to change the name of the body of water to the West. We prefer calling it "The West Philippine Sea." Thank you again. Blessings and Mabuhay.
Thanks, and congratulations on the move!
Yeah! West Philippine Sea!
Dude, the amount of work you've put in this video is amazing! The music, the visuals, the graphics that you created. You are as entertaining as you are educational. Thank you so much!

Much better than Geography Now, and i loved that you include the whole history (at least) of the Philippines, Greetings from Philippines 🇵🇭😀
What I took from learning about the Philippines is that they are a cultural fusion. They stick to their own culture and traditions but adding a _touch_ of Spanish and American culture. Whether you like that or not, it still makes them unique in a way.
Indeed. No culture is truly isolated. There are influences across all. In the Philippines, perhaps influenced more than others, but still definitely Pinoy!
The Philippines is a sponge.
Thank you for featuring our beloved country, the Philippines! It's good to know that you have been here and you have experienced how truly fascinating our archipelago is. It is not easy to lead a country as diverse as ours not only in culture, language, and various other aspects, but we still manage to rally together and be united towards a common cause. That's why we can still smile after having been devastated by typhoons and other natural calamities.
Great job, Geodiode! 👍😍❤️
Thank you Nancy. It means a lot to get the "ok" from a local. It can be easy, as a foreigner, to miss important things out.
Yes, you are a strong people that have been through so much. I just feel that you are below the potential you could really achieve - if only you good deal with all that govt. corruption, you would be an economic powerhouse!
I love my own native land, Philippines my Philippines! Thank you for this beautiful documentary you'd shared w/us. Praise God for this wonderful country! God bless you!
Good video. Yes, yes I live here and live near San Fernando/Angeles City in Pampanga. Retired now, but used to have BPOs in Makati. The Philippines, to me, is the most beautiful nation I have ever visited (over 80 countries visited in my lifetime) and also has friendliest and most hospitable people in the world. I wake up thanking my lucky stars that I live here. Mahal ko ang Pilipinas! ❤ 🇵🇭
Thanks - and wonderful to hear!
The world is changing, especially as major economies experience problems resulting from extreme debts and promised but unaffordable redistributions. The Philippines is in a very strong position relative to "developed" nations in this regard.
I'm moving to the Philippines.
Trump and Paris Hilton already moved their hotels there. You go to Manila it looks like New York. I don't like it. I went home to hear the chicken and the island vibes.
I'm tempted, but the heat is too much for me. I prefer cooler climates.

This channel is better than Geography Now. Less hype and effects, more on facts. Great job!
Thank you! Yes, I very specifically wanted to avoid their style. Not into any of the hype or gimmicks. I just want to portray the facts in a way that is understandable to any, and show a bit of earth's beauty along the way
@@Geodiode I used to be a fan of Geography Now until they started milking their subscribers. They did an episode about the Philippines and it in some areas it was poorly researched and purely based on what their Filipino fans wanted to hear.
Good research should always be the first port of call in making any factual presentation. I do my best to make sure the info i find online is corroborated by multiple sources. And if there is a difference in opinion on something, will always mention this and present both sides
Gnow is a joke nowadays, unlike before when the channel was starting the quality was excellent when barby was the only host. Now each video exceed 40 mins because half of its time goes to force humor and cringey skits, and I think most subscribers of his channel agree that his friends is one big of a mess and do harm than good for Gnow

Hello! Greetings from Poland. I've met some Philipino friends working with me hand in hand in Norway, in hospital in Stavanger. They were really super friendly, smiling, nice and approachable. I was wondering how can they get along there in such extremely different culture, very different climate and more distant/reserved people that don't speak much. 😂I really hope to visit Philipines one day. Take care, God bless you ❤
As a Catholic nation, am sure they are taught to serve people as slaves (nurse). Poland is a difficult country due to its flag. I can never remember the flag of Poland except until I tell myself to remember Poland as a country that has no place for others. Only two. Two is not a nice number. 🇵🇱 With white on top and red below, it has a difficult flag to remember. Inverted flag is of Indonesia which has zero similarity with Poland. What does Po -land mean anyway? Does Po have any meaning?
Thank you for appreciating our country Philippines and it's more fun in thr Philippines and please enjoy the beauty of the island and hospitality of our people. Godbless

Filipino here! I wanted to thank you for letting everyone know the truth! We are Austronesian peoples from Malay-Indonesian descent. Our genealogy doesn't really reside with the Spanish as many believe. (Common misconception). Great video!
You're welcome! And yes, I research the ethnicities aspects carefully in my videos, as I know it's a very sensitive subject for all concerned!
we're not from malay Indonesian descent. the education system has updated the origins of our people to include the more modern theory which is accurate. the Austronesian expansion from Taiwan South to the Philippines, and then out to Micronesia (who are very close to us), Indonesia and Malaysia, Polynesia, Melanesia and Madagascar. there are videos on the Austronesian expansion stage of Philippine history on RUclips, and these videos are in our K-12 educational curriculum now.
@derbdep You are right! I found out about this a few months ago. There is a RUclipsr called Masaman and he explains the history in-depth. This makes total sense and explains alot of my questions. Alot of the taiwanese tribes are very similar to the igorots and mountainous people's in Northern Philippines and Baguio.
