Chile holds a special place in my heart, as I spent a year there as a student. I never thought this channel would make a video about Chile thanks for talking about my native country I'm German-Chilean and I'm delighted that you talked about my country where I was born! You covered almost all aspects and curiosities of the country! :)🇨🇱
Great to hear. and you're welcome. Also great to share your family history too - by any chance are you from Valdivia that saw the biggest German immigration?
@@Geodiode I am from Araucanía, which is a region in the south of Chile. Next to city of Valdivia My parents arrived here. During World War II, many Germans migrated to Chile during the 19th century :) But I never had the opportunity to investigate more about the country where I was born since almost all my life I grew up in Germany :) but now I do have the opportunity!

The people there were the best part of the trip for me. Thoroughly decent, welcoming and hospititable. Great place love it. Ademas el paisaje es espectacular.
That brought back many wonderful memories. The country is beautiful and so are the people. I met someone special there and regret not keeping in contact. Always in my thoughts VC.
Except for only one thing, the Chilean Supreme Court already decided, a few years ago, that Salvador Allende wasn't killed but committed suicide with the AK-47 rifle given to him by Fidel Castro.
Many thanks for your excellent overview of this beautiful country, easily my favorite among all Latin American countries. I've had the good fortune to travel to Chile on several occasions. These visits have taken me from the far north of Arica and Iquique and the Atacama Desert to Punto Arenas on the Strait of Magellan. Chile is a stunningly beautiful country with very hospitable people and charming customs.
They are one of my personal favourites. You see many of them here in Britain as ornamental trees in household gardens. They thrive here since we have the same oceanic climate
They are beautiful trees but they are not something you would want anywhere near your home. They drop very heavy cones and their leaves or whatever you call those are very sharp and pointed enough to puncture flesh. In one of the apartments my brother used to live in when he was living in SoCal they had some of these kind of trees out in front. I heard all about it from him and his wife.

Having lived in Chile for 5+ years, i can safely say that it is a very pleasant and hospitable place. The southern part is quite a match to Europe for natural beauty and waterbodies.
Wow so fascinating! Such beautiful unspoiled nature and such an interesting history. It has to be one of the most geographically interesting countries, given its extreme proportions. The footage in this video is absolutely phenomenal. Amazing work, my friend. You've delivered once again. I'm loving these country showcases
Thanks so much Yiorgos! Yes I already had some great footage of the country beforehand but then I found another stock video library that has just hundreds of clips of this incredible country. Glad you enjoyed it.
I cant even imagine what a 9.6 earthquake would be like. That is the strongest earthquake that humans have ever witnessed in recorded history. The Richter Scale is logarithmic so every number increase is a factor of 10. I must have been awful to live through and probably lasted up to 5 minutes ( looked it up it lasted TEN minutes!)
Yep, exactly. It's logarithmic. I believe that the shaking in the really big ones (like the Indian Ocean Tsunami event of 2004), is not really greater than that of a 7.0, but they are much much longer, going on for 5+ minutes compared to less than 30 seconds. It measures the total energy released. Still, not one I'd want to live through...
@@Geodiode I have never experienced any, but i wonder if you're in open space with nothing near that can fall or tumble is a shake of level 7.0 still that scary ?
As a chilean, i must say it is very safe to experience an earthquake here in Chile. Buildings are built to withstand them. I was 14 when the 8.8 earthquake in 2010 happened and since then I could say we're used to it. I think last week or a few days back, i don't remember when, there was a 6 point something tremor (chileans call any earthquake below 7 a tremor, to us a "real earthquake" has to be 7 or more, I don't know why, it's a cultural thing 😅) and nothing happened, the earth just moves, some things might fall but that's it, a tsunami could happen in coastal areas though, but it would have to be a really big earthquake for that to happen. It's really safe here, so I don't get scared. But here, if it were to happen in other countries i would actually be scared because I wouldn't know the architecture. 😂 Greetings, and if someday you decide to visit Chile, be prepared for minor earthquakes but be sure that nothing will happen to you. ❤ trust chileans, we know what to do.
I am a chilean-born Australian. Firstly, what a magnificent video, you did not miss anything. A couple of points from those of us who were children in the 70's, Salvador Allende was 100% a Marxist Communist and not just a Socialist, he was a Fidel Castro folower and wanted to convert Chile into another Cuba, that is why the yankees got nervous. The other thing is that the language spoken in hispanoamerica is called Castillian (Castellano) and not Spanish which is a sociopolitic term used and applicable to Spain only. According to the Spanish constitution, the official language of the state is Castellano.
@@Geodiode You are welcome. Please note that in Spain the name of the language is a very sensitive subject. Anyone trying to say the official language is Castillian will be subject to serious semi-abuse because Español is meant to unify all ethnic regions into one country. This dilema started with Queen Elizabeth III and King Ferdinand, but were unsuccessful in completely unifying Spain in spirit.
Great video. I used to work with a fellow who before emigrating to the US as a football player for the New York Cosmos. Worked as a bus driver in Santiago and traversed up and down the length of this country.
I am glad I learned English, if I didn’t. There’s not way someone in Chile would have done this job!! Thanks for taking your turn to do this job!! Feliz de ser chileno
I just found this; sir, you are most excellent in what you are doing. (I don't think I've ever said that to anyone) Informative it's all there sure, not local knowledge, but an encompassing presentation of the facts in a pleasant, human voice. Rare these days. Subbed.
Yes, you are right! The natural beauty of the country is the best thing about Chile ! Pity that Valparaiso has been neglected after being so important.
Agreed. I don't know what happened to Val. I just see lots of graffiti there. That's something that could easily be dealt with, but it is the ugliest of all urban vices.
Thank you for the overview of the history and geography of this beautiful country. I look forward to one day traveling from north to south and seeing as much as I can of Chile. I have lived in Canada for many years and I intend to see as much of Canada's beauty first and then go back to Chile to discover it again. Thanks once more and you got yourself a new subscriber.
You're lucky to have a great country to return to. I migrated from Europe to USa long ago, my country was already in a bleak situation but now it is even far worse due to immigrants from africa and bad governments for decades, such that i have nowhere to return and yet i don't feel home in north america. Maybe i'd feel home in Chile.
Pinochet's military action and helicopter accident became a very interesting Chinese Internet political meme, many young Chinese learned about Chile through this.
Very nicely done... I was an exchange student in Chile in 1991-92 and have been back 18 times since. It played a central role in my growing up. I have lifelong friends there. The only thing I think you missed was the inclusion of Italian immigrants in your list of Europeans that make up the Chilean population.
True. Italian migrants began arriving in Chile in significant numbers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They primarily settled in Santiago, Valparaíso, and the southern regions. Contributing to Chile's economic development, they engaged in agriculture, commerce, and industry. Their influence is evident in Chilean cuisine, architecture, and cultural traditions. Prominent Italian-Chilean families played key roles in business and politics, helping to shape modern Chile. The Italian community remains active, preserving their heritage through cultural organizations and festivals.
I've always loved your videos and I never expected to see the almighty country of Chile (😄) because there are so many countries out there. So thank you for taking your time and thank you for your great work specially with those beautiful images and the accurate data. Greetings from Valparaíso

One year late to the party, but what an awesome work. I'm a Chilean in the UK, and you almost brought me to tears. Thanks for your rigour and dedication
As an American and an Anthropologist who has traveled all around the world, here's a thing most Americans do not know. If you asked me what most Chileans look like, I’d say pretty much like western Mediterranean. Dark hair, pale light skin or sunburned red skin, and very western features. In spite of being shorter, they look pretty much like Hungarian or even people from Turkey or the Balkans. Almost unseen native indigenous features (unlike Peru, Bolivia or Paraguay). Needless to say, no Black genes at all. Neither they look anything like our assumed caricature of a Mexican (which is not even true for Mexico). The Andalusian, Basque, German, French, Italian and Croatian migrant heritage is quite evident in the Chilean physiognomy. If there was anything like the “whiteness” or "westerness" rating of people in South America, I’d say Chile would rank second only right behind Argentina. At the same time, the music they listen to, the tv shows they like, the books they read, the way they approach life, their whole culture... is just like being home when you are there.
Im an asian,Chile is the most underrated country in the whole american continent!!!!

@@imaxischerhangus3578 yes - that southern region is where most of the Germans settled. So you're in Germany now? Maybe you can go back someday - I think I'd want to escape to that country if I didn't mind leaving my friends and family behind here...
@@Geodiode yes i live here and i love Germany too don't get me wrong:) but Chile is a country to which anyone would escape! For a vacation I hope you fulfill your dreams soon and you can visit the Country, it is really Beautiful!!And maybe you can also bring your family and friends.
@@imaxischerhangus3578 Your leaving the questions unanswered. Why move to Germany if Chile is a great country ? Also WW2 is 20th century not 19th century. Last only by curiosity and I stand against Usa, did Germans moved to Chile who were involved with German war regime ?
The people there were the best part of the trip for me.
Thoroughly decent, welcoming and hospititable.
Great place love it.
Ademas el paisaje es espectacular.
Thank you for this video. As a climate/geography nerd I really appreciate your content, always quality visuals and precise explanations.
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for the compliments!

Soy fanático de este canal, tiene muy buen contenido
That brought back many wonderful memories. The country is beautiful and so are the people. I met someone special there and regret not keeping in contact. Always in my thoughts VC.

As a Chilean abroad, I would say this video is very well researched and thought. Incredible.
Thank you so much!
Except for only one thing, the Chilean Supreme Court already decided, a few years ago, that Salvador Allende wasn't killed but committed suicide with the AK-47 rifle given to him by Fidel Castro.
La diversidad geográfica de Chile es incomparable ❤
Lindos paisajes que se pueden apreciar en chile
¡Sí!
IMHO I give this channel ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. Everything about the production is perfect. I bet it's going to do very well.
I appreciate that! Thank you William! The RUclips algorithm is finally pulling its weight after 5 years of me producing such material!
I visited this beautiful country in 2007 ,Santiago , Talia and Maule are the places I travelled.
Long live Chile.❤

Many thanks for your excellent overview of this beautiful country, easily my favorite among all Latin American countries. I've had the good fortune to travel to Chile on several occasions. These visits have taken me from the far north of Arica and Iquique and the Atacama Desert to Punto Arenas on the Strait of Magellan. Chile is a stunningly beautiful country with very hospitable people and charming customs.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you, and you have done well to travel the entire length of Chile. I'm jealous!
Phenomenal flora and fauna. Maybe the best topographical diversity of any country in the world.

Chilean Araucarias are the most beautiful trees in the Planet
They are one of my personal favourites. You see many of them here in Britain as ornamental trees in household gardens. They thrive here since we have the same oceanic climate
Oh I live in the UK and I've never seen one@@Geodiode I'm from London tho, that might explain it lol

Chile the unique country witg Oceanic and Mediterranean climates en South america🤗
It is blessed like no other country geographically!
Wrong, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Argentina also have oceanic climate due to the Andes

@@Geodiode thank you! The footage really paid off. Wonderful job 😌
Thanks for adding!

Thank you very much Carolina! In many ways the western coast of Canada is like the southern coast of Chile...
Chile is breathtakingly beautiful and the Chilean people are so kind and friendly.
This video is so good
