+Jay Smart I can't believe someone scrapped this. My family used to have a 2000 dodge Caravan with a Mitsubishi V6. It was reliable as heck till a deer crushed the front end. Funny thing is it still ran.
Its amazing what people bring in. Sometimes its really nice. other times its almost not worth the scrap metal. But either way i film it so you guys can see. The scrapyard life is a hard life for a car guy...
It might just be me? Every car I ever owned that was previously owned by a smoker had the issue with the ceiling falling down. I’m a never smoker & own a 26 year old Suburban & and 18 year old Avalanche. I had a 1978 Caprice that was a never smoker & all their ceilings were or are intact. I noticed this model has a cig lighter in the dash where power outlet is. I suspect that was a smoker’s car? I suspect the owner was giving it away because the car was nickel & dimming them. They couldn’t be bothered with selling it. Then you have to deal with people. I would have kept it though. Which leads me to believe they were a bit more wealthy than me. I drive my cars litterly until the wheels fall off. Why get rid of something when all they did was replace items that are purely maintenance items. It would have to be the engine threw a rod or the frame rotted out? I was forced to get rid of a car because it was leaking fluids. Yep! I was told I couldn’t park it at work anymore because every week they had to perform an environmental clean up where it parked 😂. I drove it on errands outside of work but then it was ruining my driveway. I loved that car.
Here's what sucks about my life rn, sadly I am 14 and I have a dad who builds cars and by that I mean drag cars, and so I recently moved so we aren't in the same state anymore. And so even though I'm 14 my little mind decided to go ahead and email my closest junk yard just to see if there's anything I can do to ear money :/ Stupid idea? Of course it is. So yea. And watching your videos of a place like that helps cheer me up.
This van has plenty of life left in it. And would make someone in need a great car. I hope someone buys this before she gets turned into a toaster oven.
ive had one of these vans, they are total pieces of junk, after 8 to ten years of ownership everything started braking down on it, worse minivans ever made, they’re creature comforts to ride in thats about it..
Why I hate stupid people. I believe in driving a car into the ground. If one major repair exceeds the cars value then it may be time to let go. The other thing in my area is if it is rusted badly enough it is time to go.
Those Vans were awsome my Mom had a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan it was the base model but I still loved it we had it for 3 years until the transmission blew out and it would've cost $7 Thousand dollars to fix so we had to get rid of it I still miss it 😢
just picked up a 1999 t&C LXI for 300, Great van, restoring it because the 96-2000 is in my opinion the best generation in terms of build quality and uses metal parts that were all replaced with cheap plastic S#!t from 2001 onwards
I suspect cars like this get scrapped after the owner dies and the family doesn't want to deal with the car anymore, or the various problems it has. This would seem to be particularly true for the high-end American cars that only old people buy anymore.
Since most of the parts are still new, I am betting the previous owner likely took care of the vehicle well not exterior wise, but mechanical wise. The kids or grandkids were likely not into the styling of the older minivan from early 2000s as many of them prefer trucks or suvs, so this poor vehicle got scrapped.
Man I just love these vans with this body style perticulerly I'm on my second one now had a 2000 Chrysler Town and country limited white with every option except DVD player including keyless entry it was white diamond cleer coat exterior color with tan leather seating also had had CD and cassette player with the infinity acoustic sound system and now I currently have a 2000 Chrysler Town and country silver LXi trim with cloth seating it also has the infinity acoustic sound system wouldn't mind having another one my limited had the 3.8 v-6 the LXi I have now has the 3.3 v-6
Why would someone spend money fixing it up only to scrap it? We scrapped our 1997 Dodge Caravan because we where having problems with it - A/C not work, could't get if fix, transmission slipping (previously replaced it) and sometimes overheat.
We had a 2001 Grand Caravan. Parents bought it new and only kept it till about 70k miles, the engine and trans held up but the rest of the thing just seemed to fall apart. Replaced with a 2008 Honda Pilot that was leagues ahead in build quality.
Lol over here in Ontario Canada that would have had leather seats a 3.8 all Town and country was never low over here and even the sport model had 3.8 Dodge Grand Caravan old the low bass would have the 3.3
I'll lay odds that the owner junked it because some dodgy garage somewhere told them it was going to cost a fortune to fix the soggy brakes when all it really is is a master cylinder with tired seals or maybe a few iffy brake lines. Sure, the master cylinder is probably a pain in the ass to get to on a vehicle like that, it's probably buried up under the scuttle, but I doubt if the part itself is expensive and it shouldn't take hours and hours to change and bleed the brakes...
Your probably right on the money with that. Considering all the other new parts the owners may have just not wanted to sink another dime into it. Thinking it was a money pit. But with all these new parts youve almost got a new van. Tons of miles left in this old girl
nice vehicle just of my type rear A/Cs cup holders storages my car doesn't have cupholders so it is very difficult to handle the glasses as they keep slipping and stuff
Just replace the head liner, the squeeky belt, both front fenders, clean the inside, reinstall the slide door panel and you have a great van to sell :) 264 400 miles it's not too much for a 2000.
my family had this exact same car but it was silver but unlike this one the air conditioning was out in the first few years same as the Plymouth minivan we had did the same thing but that van damn good condition
Why the hell would you scrap this running van with all those NEW parts? Some people have no common sense. Not my favorite generation Town & Country/Grand Caravan, but this is really nice compared to most. I'm sure someone will buy her.
some people just dont want to invest time or money any more. Theres a point we all reach when we have just had enough. However I would have just thrown it on craigslist for cheap. But oh well.
It's like when I was on a scrapers once it came in a Ford Sierra 2.0 it look decent and I ask the owner what was wrong with it? He said it just snapped the cambelt. I was surprised because 2.0 Ford Ohc engine it's just to put a new cambelt on and drive and that's it. I wish i had money then i will bought it. It's a shame.
clean that rust off with a grinder and apply new paint on it and it should be perfect. or maybe if you got another van thats identical but its gonna get scrapped, then get a pair of fenders off it (of course if they are not damaged) and put them on this one (and repaint them white if its different colour) oh and tighten the brakes and nuts on that door panel, apply wd40 on all squeaky parts and its done.
I hate to sound lazy. But yes to the wd40. But other then that all its gonna get from me is a date with a pressure washer, and a vacuum. And thats all. I wish i had the time to do more.
Now THERE'S an idea! Jay Smart, are you hearing this? Perhaps you already do have a website listing of your scrapped cars for sale. If so, what is the URL, "www.headscratcherscrappedcars.com"? (seriously, what is it if you already have one?)
Its weird thou. Around here the average car is over 10 years old and over 200k. People hang onto stuff for as long as possible. In all honesty this is low miles for a van in our junkyard. Normally these caravans and such come in with blown engines or slipping transmission at 300k+
Im not saying im lazy. But Im not gonna put any more effort then i have to into it. lol. Ill hit it with a pressure washer and a vacuum and im DONE lol
Wow what a luxury compared to the '96 voyager our neighbors used to have

I miss the steel bumpers these things had through 1990 they didn't get totaled so easily.

ashtrays in the back for kids smokin made my day lmao
Sometimes I think I'm funny lol

That part was funny. LoL
Your icon sure makes it look like it 😂
Verderame My crown vic has those as well and I believe I said the same thing you did about them lmao
people are fucking idiots to junk a perfect running van I bet she cleans up real nice!!!! if I was you I'd keep it.
This van has plenty of life left in it. And would make someone in need a great car. I hope someone buys this before she gets turned into a toaster oven.
Not to mention new air in the new tires
E Meyer also ash trays for the kids in the back
gil zur *facepalms* not you.
2nd Chrysler town and country vid with Ozzy Osbourne on the radio. Maybe Chryslers are possessed haha

Caleb You sound EXCATLY like my dad
Caleb i agree, i will drive my Jetta into the ground
I just scrapped a running driving van because every non essential mod-con was broken, it just got depressing to drive
Caleb i am of two minds on driving a car into the ground. It is good to save money, but what good is a car if you can’t trust it?
Those Vans were awsome my Mom had a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan it was the base model but I still loved it we had it for 3 years until the transmission blew out and it would've cost $7 Thousand dollars to fix so we had to get rid of it I still miss it 😢
Gots good blinker fluid! New piston return springs and a new muffler bearing
Don't Forget Hubcap Gaskets..
"two hand job" - no need to brag ;)
;)
Wax on.Wax off
I get it. An I would love to get it!
264,000 miles! DAM! Thing fired up in a second too!
That's older chryslers for ya.

Love it. Back when cars were beautiful.
The 3.3L engines are nice little indestructable engines....
Sadly paired with disposable automatics. 3.3/3.8 MT would be an awesome combo
that van has an amazing sound system
Fun fact: In 2001 Chrysler upgraded to a deluxe plastic intake beefed the cam and compression. About 30-40 hp!
Those 2 rust spots on the fenders look like the car got stuck between something... Just mentioning
Teh Huaweiier yeah. They were in the exact same spot on both sides
Maybe it tried going into a driveway that was too narrow.
i would love to own another one of these vans, damn i wish this junkyard was in Connecticut, i would definitely buy it!
Ill ship it!
Hello Neighbor, From CT as well.
@@rogueranger7989 grew up in CT my family state
i cant believe someone junked this. the owner could've sold it for $800-$1000. someone in need could definitely use a cheap car

clean it up, fix the brakes and the Deliverance fan belt, and make some $.
I totally agree
Thats what Im hoping to do!
kb94596 no fan belt. It's got electric fans

I just bought a limited. I like it so far . Only drove it twice tho. I dont like that the seat moves back to upright position after every drive.
Thank God you saved that thing cuz those vans are just abused and thrown away
Tammy Rosenwald
Ikr. No wonder we never see 1984-1995 ones and now dwindling 1996-2001 ones!
42luke roblox 1996-2000 you meant
What the hell is a classic like this doing in a junkyard? Somebody needs to fix this baby up!
I just bought a 4th generation grand caravan awd for $400. Lol. Rust free socal. Needs some work, but was suppose to be dead, runs fine
Probably needs a master cylinder too. Not a bad little van for someone.
Awesome 😃 👍 2000 Chrysler Town and Country LX review .
Why would someone spend money fixing it up only to scrap it? We scrapped our 1997 Dodge Caravan because we where having problems with it - A/C not work, could't get if fix, transmission slipping (previously replaced it) and sometimes overheat.
I would drive this and I am not even an adult.
As a detailer, seeing dirty cars drives me crazy lol.
Also I have OCD.
Lovely content! Keep it up!
I always loved the shape of these compared to the one that came after it
Ikr
Facts best looking one
Yes
We had a 2001 Grand Caravan. Parents bought it new and only kept it till about 70k miles, the engine and trans held up but the rest of the thing just seemed to fall apart. Replaced with a 2008 Honda Pilot that was leagues ahead in build quality.
That van was not bad
Lol over here in Ontario Canada that would have had leather seats a 3.8 all Town and country was never low over here and even the sport model had 3.8 Dodge Grand Caravan old the low bass would have the 3.3
This would be great for a company van
I'll lay odds that the owner junked it because some dodgy garage somewhere told them it was going to cost a fortune to fix the soggy brakes when all it really is is a master cylinder with tired seals or maybe a few iffy brake lines. +Jay Smart Exactly, as long as the engine and trans are fit there's at least a year left in it so it's cheaper than a hire car...
I remember when all the rich kids rode around in these and I was In my dads 89 astro or 88 crown vic.
nice vehicle just of my type
rear A/Cs
cup holders
storages
my car doesn't have cupholders so it is very difficult to handle the glasses as they keep slipping and stuff
It will sell in a heartbeat. People are always looking for cheap vehicles.
That they are! And with summer here, and that AC blowing cold. I bet my last dollar itll be gone before the week is up!
Where is your yard? Is that New Beetle in the back good?
Should have been donated for a tax write off. Somebody could have used it.
My favorite van. I wish I had the money for it
The same thing happened to my mom's 2006 Honda Odyssey we Bought all these new part which cost $5000 only to have it scraped
I have some good front left and right fenders for that same van and the same color
That the van with the really good transmission before they got really cheep
Just replace the head liner, the squeeky belt, both front fenders, clean the inside, reinstall the slide door panel and you have a great van to sell :) 264 400 miles it's not too much for a 2000.
Someone in need could really benefit from this. Its a good cheap reliable with cold air and good tires.
2:35 That actually says 262400 miles. Not 264000.

Hell yeah, clean 'er up and put it back up for sale.
Thats the plan! It will make someone a great car!
I LIKE THOSE VANS..HATE THE COLOR WHITE...BUT IF I CUD MAKE PAYMENTS ON IT...I D SCOOP THAT DAMN VAN IN A HEARTBEAT!!!!!
262K miles. Not bad for a Chrysler.
They probably threw the new belt and alternator on thinking that would fix the squealing, realized it didnt and that was the final straw lol
He said it barely had brakes, that was probably what got them fed up and made them throw the whole van away lol.
Why the hell would you scrap this running van with all those NEW parts? Some people have no common sense. Not my favorite generation Town & Country/Grand Caravan, but this is really nice compared to most. I'm sure someone will buy her.

I would keep it, too :) a nice van :)
Make a nice work van for sure. Or party wagon for the friends haha
Yeah :)
Hi greetings from zaandam the Netherlands My dad owns in the past a chevrolet caprise that was a nice looking car with a leader roof
It's like when I was on a scrapers once it came in a Ford Sierra 2.0 it look decent and I ask the owner what was wrong with it? He said it just snapped the cambelt. What did you get for it?
What the hell?!
I KNOW!!!!
My dream van!
I'll take it, we have a gray lx.
My friends mom had one till someone t-boned it.
Btw no one was hurt 👌
My sister has a 97 caravan and this is much nicer at the time
it seems in old van maybe SUVs too the head liner seem to fall down like that one I am seen other old vans same things
Do y'all still have this van?.
clean that rust off with a grinder and apply new paint on it and it should be perfect. or maybe if you got another van thats identical but its gonna get scrapped, then get a pair of fenders off it (of course if they are not damaged) and put them on this one (and repaint them white if its different colour)

Jay Smart alright
Where you at and do you still got a cheap minivan for around 5 or 700 or a pickup truck
Do you have a website of your inventory
Now THERE'S an idea! Jay Smart, are you hearing this? Perhaps you already do have a website listing of your scrapped cars for sale. If so, what is the URL, "www.headscratcherscrappedcars.com"? (seriously, what is it if you already have one?)
Worth more than 700 easily, pop a used fender easily 1700, or 1500 w/o I'd imagine
Valid point. Anything with cold ac and new tires should bring atleast 1k$
Probably scrapped because of the mileage. Someone needing a cheap van will buy it no problem
Its weird thou. Around here the average car is over 10 years old and over 200k. People hang onto stuff for as long as possible. In all honesty this is low miles for a van in our junkyard. Normally these caravans and such come in with blown engines or slipping transmission at 300k+
Transmission goes out in these..
This thing shouldn't be in a scrap yard; it could easily be fixed up.
What a waste. Looks like it ran pretty good.
Lil kids smoking in the back 😂
Isn't that year a death trap?
what the hell i would defetnatly buy that van
Did you sell it ? I'm a bit interested in it is great if it sold
Esta top chrysler !!! Abraços de brasil
Well in my entire career I have never seen a Chrysler minivan with that many miles on the odometer or.
5:29 any check engine lights on jay?
I'd love to know how much this would cost to take home whole.
A Chrysler in it’s natural habitat ... a junkyard.
Looks like a nice $1200 beater for someone
And well worth it !
but that SHO tho....damn...I found one locally for 2500, thinking about getting it...5 speed.
Fix the squeak and the head liner and the door thing and you could sell it or keep it to haul people around or for your self
If you have one like it in the yard throw some new fenders on it that will probably add a extra $100
Im not saying im lazy. But Im not gonna put any more effort then i have to into it. lol. Ill hit it with a pressure washer and a vacuum and im DONE lol
Did it find a new home?
Theodore Lamar what a shame.......
How about $500 Cash
where are you located?
Still have the motor?
No
What a deal for 500 clams . Is it sold?
This was May 2017 so it's probably either sold or doesn't exist anymore lol.
I want it. How low can you go on the price?
Its gone!
@@MXguy95 gone how?
I'd probably buy it for resale but no way I'd ever keep a Mopar.
Also it needs a belt tensioner
I can always find a use for a van. Great for hauling and what not. But yea im with you. Im not really a fan of mopars from this era.
Where are you, I'd buy that in a heart beat.
Did you sell this town and country out front please tell me you did 😰
yea save it, lots of use left in her :)
Im hoping it will find a new home
Hopefully you saved that one
that van shouldnt have been junked i wish i lived closer i would want to buy that van but i am in NY.
Mystery stains haha
where are you located ,,i,ll take it,,
