The DualShock 3 is probably 1 of the best controllers out there. Other controllers that I can say the same thing about are the DualShock 4, DualShock 2, Nintendo GameCube controller, Wii remote, Wii Motion Plus remote, Wii U Game Pad controller, and the Wii U Pro Controller.
Jedidiah Martin My ps3 slim came without any controller and without hdd. So I took my old laptop and took out the hdd and then I put It into my ps3 slim(thank god it works fine). Then I tought that I need a controller. So I went to a giant yard sale and bought 2 sixaxis controllers with out R1 bumpers on both :)
GTGOP the r1 and r2 buttons were notorious on giving out completely. my cousin had to buy controllers every 10 months because of that. so my actually fixed the trigger and analog stick durability with that new version dual shock 4 when the ps4 pro and ps4 slim came out. But every single song controller sucks for a guy with average or bigger than normal hands. it's super uncomfortable
I love Dualshock 3 contoller , cause of the back L2 and R2 buttons , they are very good at touch. Also i love controller which doesn't rumble too loud or too much , like Ps2 did.
im happy with the rumble on the DuelShock 3 also the strength of the rumble effects battery life that is why I think its not as heavy rumbling as the PS2 DualShock
I think the lack or rumbleness is down to the internal battery running down too quick. They had to make it less rumbly, else the controller would only last about 10 minutes per charge
Furthermore you may have notice that rumble feature isn't used as frequently during a game as it used to be in the good old days. The reason for this are TRC (Technical Requirements Certification ) guild lines. These TRC guild lines are imposed upon the developers of games by the owner of the console the game is gonna come out on.
@FastTquick the rumble device is probably exactly the same as the old one on the PS2 , it just doesn't receive that much power anymore for the sake of the battery life.
@DEATHMOBER1 I tryed, but my fingers kept slipping off of them. I recently bought an afterglow controller with better triggers and the left analog stick in a different position. It solved both my problems with the regular PS3 controller, but it lacks an accelerometer.
i ask you, in what other game review series will you see a controller placed atop a baking scale? this is just one of the many reasons i love classic game room.
i need help here, so i have a program called MotionJoy and i want to use the ps3 controller on Lego Batman 2 but i have no idea what these are, what direction they have?: Left Stick x- Left Stick x+ Left Stick y- Left Stick y+ Right Stick x- Right Stick x+ Right Stick y- Right Stick y+
It rumbles less because there are actually less weights on the rumbly thing. You can open up the controller and add more weight thingies. There are just less weight thingies in it.
For some reason, my Dualshock 3 controller that came with my PS3 Slim, which I bought a couple of days ago, the virbrating isnt working? The settings are right, Virbrations are on, but my controller isnt vibrating when i play games like motorstorm. Is there anything im doing wrong?
so i recently bought a ps3 controller from k mart and whenever i take it off the charger the controller turns off, any help? it doesn't seem like you could buy a fake one from a retailer
When he started talking about the Dual Shock 4 I just looked over at my PS4 controller with (for some weird reason) a sly grin. I must say though, the PS4 controller is my most favoured controller out of every controller available. It fits in my hand just right. And I know that may not be the case for everyone else but for me, it is. It feels comfortable as fuck. I can play games for hours on end without my hands hurting while with all other controllers, I always end up getting cramps and pains in my fingers and hands after an hour.
Hmm, i have a question. My controllers are 3 years old, and they kinda have started to feel a bit loose(the sticks) can i do something about this? They a currently gliding to fast. Is there a way to make them fresh again. (i am speaking about right and left stick)
@MechaNintendoMast Yes, exactly. Nintendo's N64 controller first introduced an analog stick, Sony's PS1 dual analog controller added two sticks, but Nintendo's Gamecube controller moved the left stick above the d-pad while the right stick(labeled the C-stick remained below the face buttons. The Xbox 360 controller wasen't the first to have this setup.
Mark, you missed the silver Dualshock 3, it was the vibrating controller made between the original PS3 controller and the slim, and I admit, the newer controller does feel better in your hand, but going back over a psycho mantis fight from Metal Gear with the silver controller is like no other.
@Alucard9692010 Maybe it's just me, but I think the 360 controller rumbles just as vigorously despite being a wireless controller. Someone tell me if I'm wrong.
I think it doesn't rumble as much cause too many people had accidents where the controller would slip out of there hands, shot across the room and hit the lamp.
No one seems to notice, but the Sixaxis's are actually translucent (you can see the internals) and the Dualshock 3's are opaiche. (Sorry I fail at spelling...)
The reason the rumble feature isn't as good as it used to be is because the controllers are now wireless, meaning that battery life per charge must taken into account. If the ps3 wireless fearure were to be used at full power as it was on the PS2 controller, the battery life per charge would probably be cut in half. All the controllers with rumble from the ps2 era were wired and so could use the rumble feature at full power all the time because they didn't have to think about the battery.
@KingDavid73 yeah, somebody mentioned those to me before. I haven't tried them, but if I ever get a PS3, I'll see if I can find some. Thing is, even back in the PS1 days, I had 3rd party controllers that looked like future DC / Xbox controllers, so when those consoles came out, I was already used to that style. There's the "Power A" PS3 controller that looks like a 360 controller, so I'll probably try that out as well.
I think the reason it doesn't rumble as much as the ps2 one is that it has motion controls, which are more sensitive than normal controller parts, and they don't want anything shaken loose or screw with your game. Like if you are trying to balance over a beam, but a bomb goes off and makes your controller vibrate off the charts, it could throw your character off the beam.
Was there any version of the DualShock 2 controller that didn't have vibration in it because I got one brand new off the internet and I can't get it to vibrate
I've owned all 3 PS versions (1,2 &3), and I never noticed any reduced vibration. I primarily buy for the GT series, so vibration does get used. In other words, it's not an issue in the slightest. Recharging is easy & infrequent, plus there are optional items to make it even easier. The library is phenomenally large. No clue what you are talking about here. Sounds like you just want to justify hating on it. It's the best console system out there (it's no PC, but as consoles go it's great).
Is it worth to pay the extra buck to get a genuine ps3 controller? I wonder coz not sure if the missing pressure sensitivity in good fakes or thumbsticks maybe aren't gradual as well? I wonder also because I love racing and needed that extra sensitivity... pro-drift gamer here....
Transcribe audio: "This is the police station three controller. The six Texas comptroller which came with the older model police station trees, and this is the police station three controller; the deal of shock!" I laughed, hard.
im sure the reduced rumbling is for less battery consumtion. but you forgot to talk about the durability!! once i tried to throw it at my couch out of rage but it hit the wall behind it xD and it still works like a charm
well i think that the dualshock 3 doesn't rumble much is because its a wireless controller and you might need to charge it more frequently than the dualshock 2 witch was a wire controller.
The original PSX controllers vibrated a lot as well. I like the Dual Shock 3 better than the Six Axis just because I like the weight of it and it feels more substantial, but yeah the rumble feature isn't very strong.
@KingDavid73 Yes, but if you can track it down, there are some trigger covers that make the controller much better. They're by Pelican i think. I got them from Gamestop. But a guy from Canada told me they're out of stock/print.
Hey I have been using those on a retropie console. It came with a usb for charging. The 4 lights blink showing its getting charged. But it never stops. Like they don't act like they ever fully get charged. Anybody know anything about that? I had one plugged in for hours and it was still flashing.
I remember when I got my first rumble pak for the N64. That thing actually vibrated so hard. It would vibrate itself out of the port it was plugged into. It was intense!
the gamecube controller actually rumbled wilder than the ps2 one, the thick part of it right before the connection cord is one big rumbler, the ps2 controller only has a smaller one in one of the handles...
Here, I am 12 years later, super happy that Mark is back making video game reviews. SHOUTOUTS FROM THE FUTURE!!!
I wish Dual Shock 4 was as cool as the prototype you have
The Dualshock 3 controller that came with my super slim PS3 console is definitely one of my all-time favorites.
The DualShock 3 is probably 1 of the best controllers out there. Other controllers that I can say the same thing about are the DualShock 4, DualShock 2, Nintendo GameCube controller, Wii remote, Wii Motion Plus remote, Wii U Game Pad controller, and the Wii U Pro Controller.

wow.. good times. i remember you review the ps home because strange enough i wanted a playstation to play home and i saw your video.
SWEET! This is a really nice review as always!
I love Dualshock 3 contoller , cause of the back L2 and R2 buttons , they are very good at touch.
Also i love controller which doesn't rumble too loud or too much , like Ps2 did.
The R2 and L2 buttons felt uncomfortable I like dual shock 4 and dual sense
It's been a while since I laughed at a youtube video. The coin scene at the end totally did it for me. Bravo Mark, bravo.
im happy with the rumble on the DuelShock 3 also the strength of the rumble effects battery life that is why I think its not as heavy rumbling as the PS2 DualShock
Love the background music dude :D As usual, suspenduously cool personnality!!
"it rumbles and shakes existence as we know it" best line ever!
"It might freak you out as it's rumbling across the coffee table."
LOL
lol the dual shock for lines are funny as hell lol i wound mind buyin that cause you are one hell of a good reviewer
FANTASTIC! I have never agreed with you more CGR.
good lord i could just watch you review anything :)
Ah memories
my favorite controller ever. to me it works well with every gaming genre
@0M9H4X That is what they chose with the Imperial system. Sure, you may prefer the accuracy of the metric system, but what can you do?
@PixelOutlaw Would you have preferred it if controllers had trackballs instead of thumbsticks?
Hey Mark can you do a review on the Playstation 3 Slim?
Rumble got Rumbled by Optimus Prime! Transformers Referance FTW!!
You didn't mention the pressure sensitive buttons! Very nice Inception spoof at the end though.
since you like NFS Shift could i ask which is better Shift, or Shift 2... since you never mentioned shift 2 in any of your videos...
I think the lack or rumbleness is down to the internal battery running down too quick. They had to make it less rumbly, else the controller would only last about 10 minutes per charge
i like rumble as well

Why did Sony make it w/o rumble in the first place? Were they cheaping out?
ninjapiece because of a lawsuit they were going through
It rumbles less because there are actually less weights on the rumbly thing. You can open up the controller and add more weight thingies. There are just less weight thingies in it.
Which buttons on the PS3 shoot in call of duty the buttons above the triggers or the triggers?
CGR gives super reviews
How about comparing the ps3 sixaxis controller with the wii mote controller because there are some crazy similarities between those 2 controllers😁
Mark can you review the MOVE??
I've been looking for a replacement for my sixaxis as its worn out and the price is still outrageous, nearly £40 6 years on, what is Sony playing at?
@housam7 I think that's the SIXAXIS. This is the Dualshock 3 controller.
I have Duelshock 3 and Sixaxis...Is that normal because he made it seem like it isn't normal.
when are they going to switch the d pad and left anolog places(switch places) that would be an awesome Playstation controller
wow, your hand just reminded me of the hand gripping the gun in doom, the glove folds just like your skin did, cool :)
For some reason, my Dualshock 3 controller that came with my PS3 Slim, which I bought a couple of days ago, the virbrating isnt working? The settings are right, Virbrations are on, but my controller isnt vibrating when i play games like motorstorm. Is there anything im doing wrong?
have you tries the giotek real triggers
@brutaka359 WHAT??? 1080p is not enough for you?
so i recently bought a ps3 controller from k mart and whenever i take it off the charger the controller turns off, any help? it doesn't seem like you could buy a fake one from a retailer
and how much does the Steel battalion controller weigh?
When he started talking about the Dual Shock 4 I just looked over at my PS4 controller with (for some weird reason) a sly grin.
I must say though, the PS4 controller is my most favoured controller out of every controller available. It fits in my hand just right. Honestly, my favorite controller was the Gamecube controller, because it easily conformed to your hand.
I love rumble. I feel I am one of the few that do not take it for granted.
Where to get the glossy sixaxis controller?
Love the reference to Inception at the end.
Mark, you missed the silver Dualshock 3, it was the vibrating controller made between the original PS3 controller and the slim, and I admit, the newer controller does feel better in your hand, but going back over a psycho mantis fight from Metal Gear with the silver controller is like no other.
@Andulvar "Only"? That's quite a chunk.
Hey guy's i'm getting a ps3 for christmas do you use the R2 to shoot and L2 to aim?
@VoidKeeper they were meant to have a slight "see-through" effect
i really want to find a sixaxis only controller, is there anyway i could find one
i'm pretty sure they don't rumble as vigorously to save battery life since they are rechargeable
i have two sixaxis controllers miss labeled as DS3s you can feel it in the build quality and lighter weight
correct me if im worng but did the dualshock controller of playstation 2s look absolutly nothing like the playstation 3 controllers
@Alucard9692010 Maybe it's just me, but I think the 360 controller rumbles just as vigorously despite being a wireless controller. Someone tell me if I'm wrong.
i downloaded street fighter alpha 3 for the ps3 but its not letting me use the analog mode. is there anyway i can use it ? =/
so, which is better? the sixaxis or the dual shock???
I'm guessing they had to tone down the rumble force to increase battery life.
I love how they put triggers in, but games like Uncharted 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 use the L1 and R1 buttons to aim and shoot.
I think they had to make the vibrating motors smaller to fit the gyroscope in the DualShock 3.
What's the song name when it says Classic game room HD?
I think it doesn't rumble as much cause too many people had accidents where the controller would slip out of there hands, shot across the room and hit the lamp.
do u think the shock in duelshock stands for vibration?
No one seems to notice, but the Sixaxis's are actually translucent (you can see the internals) and the Dualshock 3's are opaiche. (Sorry I fail at spelling...)
Thank you sir, for making my day.
Will this controller work for the Vectrex?
You like the shaking? Exactly where are you holding your controller sir?
The reason the rumble feature isn't as good as it used to be is because the controllers are now wireless, meaning that battery life per charge must taken into account. If the ps3 wireless fearure were to be used at full power as it was on the PS2 controller, the battery life per charge would probably be cut in half.

@SzFeri82 so true, do they even know what are kilos or something like that?
I think the reason it doesn't rumble as much as the ps2 one is that it has motion controls, which are more sensitive than normal controller parts, and they don't want anything shaken loose or screw with your game. Like if you are trying to balance over a beam, but a bomb goes off and makes your controller vibrate off the charts, it could throw your character off the beam.
Was there any version of the DualShock 2 controller that didn't have vibration in it because I got one brand new off the internet and I can't get it to vibrate
Yes, later releases didn't have it because of legal issues. Same goes with early DS3 controllers.
they still cant get the triggers right?

How come my is Six Axis Dualshock 3 and looks like the old one? :o
Transcribe audio: "This is the police station three controller. The six Texas comptroller which came with the older model police station trees, and this is the police station three controller; the deal of shock!"
I laughed, hard.
best controller ever made :D it fits your hands and its comfortable for long gameplays. i luv it

old players want this
holy shit, the PS2 controller feels like 2x heavier?

Wired controller? Memories
I'm more used to the 360 controller, but the DualShock 3 is pretty good when emulating games on a mac.
were can i buy a dualshock 4?
the gamecube controller actually rumbled wilder than the ps2 one, the thick part of it right before the connection cord is one big rumbler, the ps2 controller only has a smaller one in one of the handles...
