      Did u bake it in oven? Like i read somewhere that aluminium foil creates a spark in an oven.. So idk if this will work or will the aluminium burn.. Can u pls confirm? 🙁🙁

    • @auntiescakery
      @auntiescakery  3 года назад +5

      Yes, I bake it in an oven. It will NOT spark in a conventional oven. Aluminum WILL spark in a microwave oven, so don't microwave it :)

    Hello!! Thank u for this tutorial! I also put a wet cloth underneath the cake pan(to stop the underside of the cake from caramelising n hardening) I baked this at 160,doing the toothpick test once in a while to check if it’s baked through,it did take a lot longer than it does when baked at 180,but that’s obviously to b expected! But the final result was the most beautiful cake with a flat top,minimum browning on the sides(the sides n bottom remained as soft as the centre of the cake,but developed a slight bit of browning as it was in direct contact with the pan). The top was flat,but it did brown a lot more go hard n crusty like it normally does(as it had no protective insulation like the sides m bottom of the cake pan),but when I cut off the hard bit of cake,there was minimal wastage n I was soo happy! I’m soo pleased with this result! Btw,I’m going to experiment on keeping the top soft too,I’ll let u kno if I’m successful!

      There are many factors that cause a cake to fall. #1, the recipe is not quite correct. Try adding a bit more flour. #2, make sure not to open the oven while baking. #3, the cake just needed a little more baking time. Hope these tips help! Good luck.

    I used these strips on an 8x3 pan on 325 and it took almost an hour to bake. So I tried another cake at 350 and it also almost took almost an hour except it got crispier on the top and slightly cracked. Does it normally take this long to bake? (I’m using boxed cake mix using milk and an extra egg)

    • @auntiescakery
      @auntiescakery  3 года назад +1

      Yes. All the cakes I bake take 45-50 minutes in my oven, with or without a strip.

    This is great and thank you. I watched the original link also and I don't understand how you keep the paper wet (to reuse it) does that mean you have to keep opening it up and if so all that fussing with the foil does it not cause it to tear? Now the original video says it's an old bakers trick but I've yet to see any professionals on tv use anything around their pans and they get flat cakes...any ideas why/how.

    • @auntiescakery
      @auntiescakery  7 лет назад +3

      I do unwrap the foil each time I need to re-wet the paper. It takes a bit of time, but saves $ if you don't want to purchase baking strips. I have only seen a few professionals use these. It is my opinion that to save time, they don't use any strips and their cakes rise high, then they cut off the tops and dispose of the excess cake. Professionals also may have specialty ovens that bake at a more even temperature (Like a convection oven..). This tutorial is more for a home/hobby baker. Hope my opinions and experience helps answer your questions! Happy Baking :)

    • @auntiescakery
      @auntiescakery  4 года назад +2

      All cakes will shrink a little as the moisture cooks out of it, the longer you bake it the more it will shrink. This has been my experience. This trick will help it cook more evenly, thus not needing to cook for a longer time. It doesn't necessarily cause or prevent shrinkage. Hope that helps!

      I think so! Just make sure the cloth is completely dry after baking, to avoid mold :) I've heard from other decorators who use cloth!

      YES! Just unroll the foil, re-wet the paper and re-wrap it again. I used mine until the foil fell apart LOL!

      YES! Just unfold, rewet the newspaper/papertowel etc. And roll it back up again. I get at least 5 uses from them before I have to replace the foil.
