    Wow.
    I've seen so many tutorials of people doing this and painstakingly going over and over their cake to get a straight edge and this is the first time Ive seen this technique. So much simpler and so much easier. Thank you for that!!!

      I love this comment!!! I know it's old but still, it's so sweet to see experts using tips and tricks from others and acknowledge that. Some people are too proud! It's such a shame because theyre missing out! Learning new things doesn't mean you aren't great at what you do! It goes to show that no matter how great you are there is always room to grow 💗

    Thank you for such a thorough tutorial. I would like to suggest something for you. They're called cake strips. They will help your cakes to be flat across the top so you don't have to cut the dome off and then have to deal with crumbs. Just soak them in water, squeeze them out and put them around your cake pan before baking.

    • @Scrumptiouscakesbyfairy
      @Scrumptiouscakesbyfairy  5 лет назад

      I have PME baking strips but as I bake at low temperatures my cakes mostly come out almost flat I don’t get many off cuts. 😊

    I would suggest putting a non-skid mat down on the turntable to keep the cake board from sliding around while working on it.

    • @simim111

      I had this same issue. The cake card held the cake but the card kept moving around on the turn table😞

      I have used double side tape

    • @MaryAnnNytowl
      @MaryAnnNytowl 3 года назад +1

      I have seen many of them (other cake decorators & cooks) use the bumpy sort of liner for shelves, bins, and drawers, that is like a fat mesh. They cut a square of it that sits under their cake board, and it stops the sliding issue better than tape of any kind. Plus, just wash it and reuse it tons of times, so a little 10 ft²/.9m² roll of it could last most people quite awhile!

    Wonderful tutorial!!! I know there are acrylic disks that can be used to get sharp edges, but I am amazed at how you do it with a simple white cake board piece. You are truly good at what you do.

    • @Scrumptiouscakesbyfairy
      @Scrumptiouscakesbyfairy  5 лет назад +1

      Judy Fleming thank you so much for the positive feedback. I know about the acrylic disc they are expensive aren’t they? Plus when you have to do same size cake cake in multiple quantity you need more than one set. I am absolutely against paying extra £s when I know the result can be achieved in cheaper ways ☺️and you know how addictive this cake making is lol my kitchen is short of space.

      Sarah Martin Issue was with the space and for every size you need 2 discs. Plus I do so many cakes so I need more than a pair for each size. It wasn’t economical for me neither good for my space. This method works absolutely like a dream. Why spend so much when you can get the same results with less 😉

      My son, who just walked in while this was paused, said, "that's really pink fondant!" He could hardly believe it when I told him it was buttercream frosting!

    If you used cake pan strips, you wouldn't have to shave off the top of each layer to be flat. Also, piping the icing, using a large tip, in a spiral between layers and on top greatly decreases the chance that crumbs get into you icing while spreading.
