- The shocking arrest, prosecution, and imprisonment of Nebraska teen Celeste Burgess and her mother, Jessica Burgess, has now become one of the best-known cases of abortion criminalization in post-Roe America. But the Burgess case is just the tip of the iceberg. Since the 2022 Supreme Court Dobbs decision, abortion bans only make it easier to criminalize all pregnancy outcomes. Emma Roth of Pregnancy Justice joins Rattling the Bars to discuss the Burgess case and the broader movement to criminalize abortion care.

We have always been living in a dystopia. Human beings are the same as we ever were. Illogical, superstitious, and fundamentally insane.We've been this way thousands of years ago, we're still the same even now. The only real difference between thousands of years ago and now is we have many gadgets and the internet makes it easier than ever to fall into mob mentality on large scales. If you think about it, nothing's really changed, we just have a high opinion of ourselves because our tech strokes our egos so damn well.
@@Loku242 Yes you are right. Many decades ago when abortion was legalised, human fetal development was barely known about. There was a lot of superstition about what constitutes human life because the science was so unclear.
These days with the amazing advances in science and technology - particularly ultrasound - even your local community nurse can see exactly what is growing inside the womb. From a very early stage there is really no mistaking the fetus for a unique, living and whole human being who is sentient and responsive!
It really is time for the law and society to catch up with the scientific advancements and stand up for the equality of *ALL* human lives.
I can somewhat understand the government refusing to pay for an abortion (even though the Pentagon/war/death & killing machine receives $800 TRILLION DOLLARS+).
BUT to not have the choice and pay for it yourself - and because of ridiculous religious beliefs women become subjected to imprisonment, yet men have no responsibility of setting it all in motion.
Stop … both sides … freedom…. Decisions should be between you and your God. Nobody should be telling another what to do … God gives you free choice so why does one man dictate to another.
No one holds the authority to end life. It is the RIGHT of the unborn to have the RIGHT to life too. Don't forget the babies DECISION too! We need to be their voice, as they don't have one yet. They can't yell out "Mommy, please don't vacuum me apart!"

If she doesn't want one, she can use birth control or keep her legs crossed. Murder isn't birth control, it's just murder. The baby has the right to life, just as much as the mother does. Im all for pro choice but 29 weeks is out of the question. Lots of babies are born earlier than that and grow to healthy children. To try to defend this is evil. I believe 90 days is more than enough time to make a decision after that unless there is an extraordinary circumstance then its just murder

If the government or the state mandate by law that a woman or female child must carry a pregnancy to term, then the woman and child must be financially supported by the legal authority that has imposed this obligation! The woman and child must receive the same benefits that the lawmakers receive from the state and or government agencies for their financial support and benefits! They must receive lifetime health insurance, salary that is the highest possible income for a lawmaker who has the power to impose legal restrictions on the public! They must also provide the child with academic support for as long as the child requires to obtain their personal goals and aspirations for their future in the nation! Hit them in their check book because it’s the only thing they understand and don’t want to share with us!

These politicians who write and support these laws hide behind political immunity from legal and civil prosecution. This governmental immunity from personal prosecution must severely restricted when in comes to body autonomy laws they endorse. Would they write these laws if they could be personally sued in civil court if the girl or women is finacially harmed, injured or dies because of an unviable pregnacy or health complications? Why should the doctor, medical professional and medical facility be forced to take on the civil suits? If you look at all the religious organizations who influence and support these politicians, they actually don't have official written dogma stating they want to ban all abortions because it would open them up to lawsuits from those who were harmed by these dogma laws. Same with these anti-choice organizations.
If these politicians, their donors and organizations behind them are so sure that their laws will not personally or finacially harm, injure or cause death, they should be proud to forgo their political immunity from lawsuits on their anti-choice laws. Put their personal wealth and reputation on the line for their beliefs.

Duvan Robert Tomas Perez, 16, was a sanitation worker at the Mar-Jac Poultry plant in Hattiesburg, Miss. A statement from the plant says Perez died after he became entangled in a machine he was cleaning.
Micahel Schuld, 16, from Wisconsin killed in a sawmill accident.
Wiliam Hampton, 16, died while working at landfill after being pinned between a semi and its trailer. All three cases happened since June.
That and reiforcing their patriarchal power relationship.
No one is controlling what she does to HER body. It's a crime how she treated someone ELSE'S body. 29 weeks is the low end of the estimate. It could have been 29-31 weeks. That's already viable. 2-4 more weeks and it would have been safe to induce labor and both would have been safer. But even at 29 weeks, the baby could have survived outside of the womb... If she hadn't poisoned it, torn it apart, burned it, and buried the corpse of her child.
That in fact should be stigmatized.
And a 90 day sentence that was cut short for intentionally killing and mutilating her baby is a pretty darn light sentence.
This is not "a teen who was raped taking an emergency contraceptive." This is a mother and grandmother plotting and carrying through murdering and mutilating a defenseless baby.
We need to come together and support Pro Choice financially the way the Evangelicals fund anti abortion.

While that must feel really clever to say, it's a non-sequitur on two fronts. By definition, a parasite is an entirely different creature (than its host) by its taxonomy, right down to DNA. And, setting aside the consent business (because no true parasite is ever consensual), perpetuating one's own species is an entirely different relationship. Real science.

Did he discuss with her prior to sex what happens if she become pregnant? Did he ask if she was in the fertilization periord of her menstration cycle? Did he pressure her into sex without discussing with her his plan to eject his sperm into her? What was he wearing? Was he wearing cologne? Did he take his shirt off or wear provocative clothing or drive a vehicle to impress her? Did he ply her with drugs or alcohol or go to a establishment of home with intent to ply her with either? Did he discuss with her the consequeses of ejecting his sperm into her? Did he take precautions so his sperm did not eject into her? Did he ask if she was on contraceptions? He needs to answer for his part in this

I didn't think it could get more pointlessly cruel for no reason than life in prison for possession of weed, but here we are, in an America that locks up women seeking treatment for what amounts to a critical medical condition. In the case of my mother when she was pregnant with my third brother, it was already well established by every expert Vanderbilt had to offer that the baby was going to die due to a heart defect. My mother had to have a very unique procedure to deliver the baby due to mirroring syndrome where her body was copying the condition of the baby, which would have resulted in her death. I think back to that day after seeing this, my mother never sought an abortion, but if this happened in a post roe v wade world, they would have put her in prison on the grounds of the baby's condition being dangerous to her life that doctors were suggesting abortion to save my mother's life. They'd have arrested her based on a medical condition that by some miracle didn't kill her that day.
My mother is dead, she survived the ordeal, but died three short years later. Now my mother's case has only one outlandish detail, and thats the fact she survived it. I weep and worry for women who in this pointlessly cruel twist of government overreach, are having to make the choice between dying of childbirth forced upon them, baby and all, or having to choose to die of a terminal birth or related condition in prison, cut off from friends and loved ones who would probably never see them again.
Alright....want to push the 'punished for existing' pattern of enforcement? Lets take it even further, shall we! Lets take it to its darkest place, see the direction we're going in. Lets just shoot every woman who miscarries now. Why even stop there? Why not burn every man at the stakes for aborting millions of sperm cells, don't even need a doctor for them to do it. That was enough for a bystander to call police AND the police arrested her for getting an abortion despite having never been pregnant in the first place. She sat in jail for a month, and not even having her period behind bars was enough to prove she wasn't pregnant.

Termination at 29 weeks is extremely immoral unless it is absolutely medically necessary. I’m pro choice, but not after the baby can be viable when they’re born! I was 16 when I had my oldest son and yes it was hard but he’s an amazing 21 year old man now and he was born at 35 weeks, only 6 weeks after this person sought abortion. Why did they not seek abortion during the first trimester?

"29 weeks" is 7 months pregnant, meaning that the baby is fully formed and can survive healthily outside of the womb. The fact that any of you are justifying this cruel act, just shows how far fallen this world has become.

Many see forcing women to become mothers when they don't want to as an act of cruelty. There are many things that can be done to reduce the number of abortions. I recommend helping on that end rather than demonizing.
