    In reply, the story at the end about Falun Gong is not connected with Tai Chi. It is just because it was the anniversary of Falun Gong's demonstration in Beijing in 1999, that we included it in this episode.

    I am not convinced that the originator of Tai Chi Chuan was Zhang Sanfeng. There is NO historical record of this person, if he even existed, knowing how to fight. All that are being told and retold are just legends, and the Chinese are full of such stories including the beautiful maiden on the moon (she must be terribly lonely over there), the goddess with many arms after she chopped hers off to save her father when a TCM doctor said that her father's illness could only be cured by eating human flesh...many, many such stories.
    I believe that it was Chen Wanting, a retired Ming Dynasty general, who created Tai Chi Chuan. Chen Wanting was presumably a Taoist and he incorporated the Taoist philosophy of Yin and Yang into the practice of the art. Stripped of all the Qigong and Taoist philosophy, Tai Chi Chuan is essentially a martial art that Chen Wanting created with the techniques he used to fight many battles in combats of life and death.
    The video went on to talk about Falungong, but I see no link whatsoever between Tai Chi Chuan and Falungong. While both may have aspects of Qigong, that does not make them related. It's rather low to create a video with the title *Discovering China - the Art of Tai Chi Boxing* to get an audience. If you want to sell Falungong, just do it and leave Tai Chi Chuan out of this.

    • @truemamrdi4all

      Exactly, the Zhang Sanfeng is a nice anecdote about marrying the Shaolin and the Dao tradition. But history teaches us otherwise. Falungong Qigong is hogwash. We have Falungong here in Europe and my safe bet is that these people have serious mental issues.

    • @Seoulmoonrhee

      Of course Zhang Sanfeng was real.
      Of course Falungong shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Taichi.

      It takes years to learn how to stand let alone move the body properly in Tai Chi, versus boxing where the first thing you do is start fighting. Its probably true for the most part but Tai Chi represents a higher level of fighting, not necessarily more practical. Also Tai Chi is all about health benefits and other stuff.

    • @DavidMartin-vs5nl
      @DavidMartin-vs5nl 10 лет назад +2

      Tai chi is about the application of peng ging, 'peng' is an onomatapeaic expression like 'boing' and 'ging' is (sort of) strength. A simple example is to hold your hand in front of you palm down and tug the wrist with your free hand, then do the same palm facing up, you may notice that in the first instance the internal structure of the body is compromised at the shoulder joint but with the palm up you shoulder locks and remains strong. You form postures that send applied mass/force through you and into the ground. Taiji doesn't work anything like kick boxing, it is a lot more like judo.

    • @tpvalley
      @tpvalley 10 лет назад +1

      David Martin ther is never any thai chi like u mention in cage fighting or other top rank fights when thai chi fighters fight, they look and act just like a kick boxer almost, conventional guard etc. and they can never grab an arm etc like the training.

    I don't understand the Chinese government's suppression of Falun Gong. What are they afraid of? At the same time, I don't get why the Falun Gong practitioners feel so strongly about their art. Couldn't the substitute another art such as Tai Chi and get the same benefits? Maybe there's some political element I'm not aware of.
    As a Westerner, I really would like to know what's going on here.

    • @周金丽
      @周金丽 10 лет назад +1

      i would like to say something about that if you don't mind. The Falun Gong is illegal in China because they were trying to tell supernatural lies. For example, they told people that if they wanted to be immortal they had to burn themselves. Thousands of hundreds families were destroyed. One of my best friends was burned seriously because his mother were trying to burn all of the family. All members were dead except for my friend. And later, some people from Falun Gong tried to get my mother into it as well. Luckily, my mother was wise enough to stay out of this. The Chinese government tried to stop them, but the leaders of Falun Gong escaped to USA....Chinese people respect all the people who are doing Tai Chi and martial arts because they are Chinese cultural physical activities. But the Falun Gong is not good... That's my saying. Hope you can know more if you can do some investigation! Yep, China welcomes you!

    • @PrivateEyeYiYi
      @PrivateEyeYiYi 10 лет назад +2

      周金丽 So the leaders have come to the US. Well there haven't been any burning incidents here, so I don't know what these leaders are doing. Perhaps giving Falun Gong classes to willing participants? And the information I've managed to find doesn't support what you're saying, namely that thousands of people set themselves on fire.
      There were maybe 5 people who were involved in an incident in 2001, Is that any reason for the Chinese government to declare a religion illegal? What are they afraid of, people exercising?
      What does seem to have happened is that the Chinese government attempted to suppress Falun.Gong (for what reason, I can't understand), and the people who burned themselves did so in response to the suppression, not the other way around.

    • @周金丽
      @周金丽 10 лет назад

      So that is a different story then. It is not Chinese government was afraid of them and suppressed them. It is us People who were afraid of them!! There are many religions in China, but FA lun gong is definitely not one. Some people set themselves in fire. I do feel sorry for them because they were not able to see the world before they died.

    It's really too bad to link at the end of the clip the Falung Dafa (Falung Gong) sect with what would have been other wise a good introduction to Taiji. It's a really cheap move but unfortunately many people will fall for it. Too bad. Li Hongzi is the Falung Gong cult leader. He believes E.T.'s are here to take human souls. Read interview in Time Magazine, Monday, May 10, 1999, available on-line at content.time.com. Beware of cults. Want to benefit from Taichi and QiGong ? Please do it and practice without being tied to a cult. There are many NEUTRAL information sources on QiGong and Taichi out there.

      nominal6 Lol, interesting... us Spiritual Satanists believe the same thing, that Earth is a soul farm... for extra-terrestrial beings. We are cattle, being eaten on a 4th dimensional level. Sounds like Li Hongzi knows what he's talking about. I must do some research on Li Hongzi, sounds very interesting. Then again, those who are psychic enough (spiritually open) know and have seen this.

    • @nominal6
      @nominal6 9 лет назад

      Satanic Truth I'm not totally putting this aside. But there should be a clear line between these beliefs and simple qigong and taichi, which is what most, if not all, interested people want to learn. They do not want to get into esoteric material and feeding them such sideways along with qigong and taichi, is, IMHO, not good. If they want to read about theories of parallel universes, then they can do that separately.
      For Hongzi, as you might have read in the Times article or elsewhere, technology is there to take away our souls, so that ETs can live inside our bodies. I'm not 'against' such thoughts, although for me it is clear that qigong and taichi or any internal martial art, is not mixed with that at the practice level. This said, meditating, deep qigong and taichi can actually open doors. But mixing topics is not good, and adding politics, as Falung Dafa does, is even worse.

    It's clear you don't know Taiji or Falun Gong. I don't know much about scientology, but I don't think it bears any semblance to either. Both Falun Gong and Taichi have ancient roots in the Buddha and Dao schools. They are both for cultivating the human mind and body, though mostly the martial arts elements of Taichi have been passed down to today.
    In fact, you are merely repeating the Chinese Communist regime's lies and slander.
    I hope you learn the actual truth about these things.

    Really? A Falun Gong advertisement? What a bunch of shit. No real qigong has a spiritual leader. No true martial arts worships the grandmaster. Pay respect to the developer of the art and your teachers, but not like the cult leader of Falun gong requires. It's ironic that FG complains about propaganda against them, when they put out videos like this, which is their own propaganda. Sure, do FG for the qigong (which was derived from other qigongs anyway), but beware of the cult! Better yet, find a qualified teacher of Neigong!

    • @kobi2187
      @kobi2187 9 лет назад

      +EvergreenAcupuncture I know some people who became Falun Gong practitioners after being Tai
      Chi practitioners for many years. I myself practice Falun Gong for more
      than 8 years, and have to disagree what you say about it, that it is a
      cult. Not true. It is a true self cultivation practice of mind and body
      of a very high level. All righteous faith in the past were persecuted:
      Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism. Now Falun Gong is saving, thus it faces
      unprecedented persecution.
      Not sure if it was right to mix Tai Chi with Falun Gong in the video,
      like you say, maybe not. Those are two different cultivation forms. Yet,
      Falun Gong is wonderful and I can only recommend you try it and then
      make a decision. No evil cults are persecuted. Only good and righteous
      spiritual practices are. Good and evil coexist in our world.

    • @EvergreenAcupuncture
      @EvergreenAcupuncture 9 лет назад +2

      +kobi2187 You proved my point by comparing Falun Gong with religion and placing it on the level of persecuted groups. FG is persecuted because the extreme number of participants in China scares the government which doesn't like big organized groups of anything. I believe the actual practice of FG can have benefits, but when you have a spiritual leader, then you attain cult status. Qigong/neigong is about SELF cultivation, but FG seems to pace emphasis on the group. If you can't practice FG without any connection to a group, then you are in a religion/cult.

    • @spinningdragontao
      @spinningdragontao 2 года назад

      I agree with you. My knowledge of FG is limited but it is definitely a cult and one that seems set up to challenge the government more than be genuine in their spiritual advancement.

And please people do not tell me that the Chinese martial arts are too lethal for UFC, if you can kill a guy easily then you can stop a guy easily as well without killing him.

    • @932dave
      @932dave 11 лет назад +8

      There is no martial art that is better than another. I would argue that tai chi is better suited for most NORMAL people who don't want to dedicate there lives to fighting in a ring. Most real fights don't end up with two people of the same weight fighting fairly within a specific arena. A mugger might just jump out and stab you with a knife. So in that case, whatever art makes you the more "aware" person who can react faster by just running away would be the most effective. I don't like it when people think that the UFC is the real test of a martial artist. It's not. Although UFC fighters are incredibly tough and excellent competitors, it does not mean that what they do has prepared them for what real life could throw at them. NO martial art, or even combination of arts can prepare you for real life with technique alone. That is why I argue that the arts geared more toward personal growth are the most effective in real life. They can at the very least make you more aware of yourself and therefor the world around you.
