Hi Zoe, could you make a video on how to create a portfolio? What are the most important pages and steps to add? Like project page introduction, then mood board, design development, materials and fabrics, illustration, flats.. I’m just very confused on the order and what to add specifically. Thank you for this channel I learn a lot from you!
Thank you Zoe Hong for videos like this one! I must say that your videos are super insightful especially because sometimes college projects reflect that they are done for a grade where your critique of all of these are done so the student is ready to dive in and get hired in the real Fashion Garment Design World. Again, thank you for all the great critique and content you create for us all to learn from in this fantastic channel of yours!
I enjoy these vids a lot cuz it gives insight on how a fashion portfolio is constructed and the notes u put for the people who made them are nice things to learn from too
I enjoy watching your videos. I’m in my 70s and taught myself to sew in high school. It’s so interesting learning what people need to do to become designers
Your video from the first video was so helpful. Thank you so much for the feedback. And thank you for showcasing my updated website. You’re a superstar
I 100% agree on the construction element of a design being present in the presentation of the collection of course. Would you recommend having a set of construction pages, the construction or at least part of it shown with the initial sketches, or a mix of those two options? Personally i like to show a little construction along with my initial sketches then full flats of each look with enlarged details on the side. Thoughts on this approach? Too much?
I wish I had a professor like you when I went to fashion school. 😅 You always give great feedback! My question is are fashion illustrations required to be included in a portfolio? My illustration skills are lacking a lot, and I’m wondering if I included more detailed/colored flat sketches that show my designs, would that be enough?
Yeah, that should be fine. You can also opt for presentation in different ways like, clothes on hangers or clothes on mannequins so you don't have to illustrate hair and faces and hands and feet.
great video Aspiring Designer: "can you make a career of sketching your ideas and have someone else do the work?" Zoe: "No." When i see these sketches I imagine one of the 100,000 people "working" "overtime" for Shein and Temu and all those other drop-ship "brands" whisper a resounding "I got you, but I ain't gonna pay you for your ideas"
Thank you so much for those videos. I have a question about portfolios for those in fashion industry who work on production side of it. So I work in china production team for a fast fashion brand. I mostly oversee fabrics/trims that we need to assign, samples that we need to ship there for sew by, guiding IT team on developing admin pages for our use on the website and some statistical work for my boss. So the question is how do I show my work if most of it is excel sheets and chats with my coworkers/ vendors?
I have a doubt as I love illustration I tend to show more of my sketches of my clothes. So as u said we can show which fabric used and whether this is an inner wear it whether it is supposed to be worn first or as coat so how are we supposed to show all those information without looking like a literal mess.
Hi! i really wanna learn how yo draw clothes and how to make them look more realistic do you have videos like that and if not could you make some about that?🥹

I've never heard of production jobs requiring a portfolio. Focus on your resume.
Hi Zoey! Do you critique fashion marketing portfolio too, would love to hear your opinion!
