The more of a fashion background you have, the more you can do these tasks yourself. You are trading money for convenience, experience, and knowledge. The less you want to do, or are able to do, the more money you need. And no one needs to learn how to grade.

Thank you Zoe Hong for these great insithfull videos that give us all a better idea as well as a roadmap of how to go about creating and managing the business! I think what your previous clients meant was that for someone who does not know anything your breaking down of the steps make it sound simple but in reality you are listing the steps not discussing in depth what each one of those steps takes.

You put my mind at ease. I like how you said a designer doesn’t necessarily need to know everything but it’s better to try to learn about it when they can. I think I’ve been stuck going from job to job trying to learn as much as I can and whatever I can bc otherwise, I won’t be able to open my own company. Granted, I don’t have money to spend for all the other vendors I can send them out to but you got me out of my head thinking I have to I HAVE TO know everything. But I will never regret what I have learned. Based on what you listed out, I would say I would have to work on social media and that would have been my next step to learn 😅

thank you so much, you provided allot of information that i actually needed to hear from a pro, especially the grading part, i basically can do everything on that list, just the grading part is my nightmare.
Grading is highly specialized, technical, and difficult to do well on more complex garments.

from experience what zoe is saying is very true the one thing students and young designers forget about having your own brand is at the end of the day its still a business, from the age of 20-30 those are the years to learn absorb ,research, practice and work for other companies in different position manufacturing process, QC, logistics, warehouse supply, marketing, learn first save up then start when your properly knowledgeable about how to create a company then you can have fun the foundation of a house is just as important as the exterior.
