Voice Play is unique in the acapella world. They do all their own arranging, most of the production of the videos, and all without lowering the vocal standards. Favorites are If I Were a Rich Man, Warriors, Carry On Wayward Son, Butter, Bang, and My Mother Told Me. Oh, and their Wicked Medley and Little Mermaid Medley are both awesome!
I do hear what you are saying about this not being as impressive as things like Oogie Boogie, but this one is still just a glorious song in its own right. They may not be as animated as in some of their others, but they really just absolutely kill it on this performance for my tastes.
I think you'd enjoy their version of "Carry on Wayward Son" even though they're sitting still in that one too. But I think you'd have a good time with "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes." They do all the old, silly dance moves and go way back with the music. Really, it's just a good time, lol
I appreciate your reactions very much. Voiceplay is unique in the acapella world; they do not stick to one genre. They have some very silly/amusing performances, some very theatric, and some that are downright scary. May I suggest Can't Help Falling in Love and Any Way You Want It. I think you will enjoy them. Remember, the lineup has changed in the last 18 months, the high tenor left for personal reasons and the baritone joined the US Navy and will be singing with them. The newest member, Cesar de la Rosa (top left in the white shirt) joined last summer. They are still one member short, and use featured artists to fill.
I hate to tell you this, but the theatricality thing-that’s the nice Voiceplay has carved out for itself. Some of us love it-I studied musical theater in college so this really is for me. Anyway, if you haven’t checked out Geoff’s channel yet (I couldn’t tell) you should hear 16 Tons. That seems to be his most popular piece to date.
Hi guys I do love A cappella groups, the singer with the deep voice I read has the deepest voice of all the A cappella groups. This is one of favorites from Voiceplay. Thank you both for another brilliant upload 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This was in "Pirates of the Caribbean 3." I also prefer when they aren't so "show spectacle." VoicePlay is rapidly becoming my favorite a cappella group. "Unchained Melody," "Carry on Wayward Son," "Warriors," "It Ain't Me" and "Halo Theme" are fantastic.
Voiceplay’s “regular “ music that stands out include: Eleanor Rigby, Heart of Life, True Colors, Carry on Wayward Son, and Can’t Help Falling in Love. Heart of Life is especially heartfelt due to it being their first video after their previous high tenor Earl left the group.
Whooo hooo! This was awesome and so entertaining. 👍😁👍. I love how they add so much character to their renditions which make them so entertaining to watch. It’s 9 from me. 👍🙂👍
I think I said this on a previous VoicePlay reaction, but if you prefer less-dramatic renditions, VoicePlay is absolutely capable of that as well. Carry On Wayward Son, Eleanor Rigby, Bridge Over Troubled Water, True Colors, Something Just Like This, We're Good, Man In the Mirror, Bang, Can't Help Falling In Love... all of these (plus many I'm not mentioning) are done pretty much straight up, no dramatics, just amazing vocal talents at work. Yeah, the guys like to have fun and be dramatic and silly, but they can do simplicity just as beautifully as any of the other a cappella groups out there. Highly recommend you look into one of the more serious videos next, rather than another movie/theatre medley or Disney/Nightmare Before Christmas piece, especially if you know you are already setting yourself up to be less than satisfied (as it's not to your personal tastes, genre-wise).
@@r.d.stratford106 Layne is super talented, he sings, beatboxes, plays the violin, arranges, and runs the production company Pattycake Productions with former VoicePlay alum Tony Wakim (I think I spelled that right) they do original videos on their own channel.
There may well be a shanty of that title but this song was written specifically for the film Pirates of the the Caribbean: At World's End and isn't intended to be a shanty. It was sung first in the film by a child on the gallows waiting to be hanged, and taken up by the"thieves and beggars" waiting in line to be hanged. I think it was also sung later in the film by a female character but I can't quite remember now. I think this is one that needs to be heard straight through without pauses to experience the effect of how it builds in tension from start to end. These songs are carefully arranged and by pausing you totally lose that effect. But there it is. Their latest is a song from a video game Skyrim, called The Dragonborn Comes. It is another theatrical type one but with more moving around. :) If you aren't keen on the theatrics, try Boy Bands in Five Minutes. It's fun without being theatrical.
This is one of the more theatrical pieces. Also in this genre is the new Dragonborn Comes and it is truly a production. Also on Jeff’s channel Misty Mountains is very theatrical. (The dwarves song from the movie the Hobbit ) If straight up singing is your thing I would suggest Carry on my Wayward Son for a bit of a rock feel, Anyway You Want It or Boy Bands in 5 Minutes for more of a pop feel. Tennessee Whiskey or Can’t Help Falling in Love with You for more of a ballad style. They Wicked Medley and Greatest Showman medleys are also worth a look. Because they do such a wide variety of styles, sometimes people watch the first few and think it’s not their cup of tea not realizing that they don’t have a single style. It’s sort of a joke that in high school PTX was Student Council, VP was the theater nerds and HF were out on the parking lot partying.
For solo Geoff videos Shenandoah is the newest and most beautiful. Also Over the Misty Mountains Cold is a must listen. He goes really low on that one and it's surprisingly soothing to hear.
Only seen a few of Voiceplay videos but would highly recommend Friends on the Other Side from Princess and the Frog. Still theatrical but not as serious and very well done!
Here's a couple I think you might like from them--->Queen in 5 Minutes, This is Halloween. This is Halloween was the first one I saw and was my #1 favorite for a long time!
I think that if they were more "animated" it would kill the mood of the song. Yeah, for this one all they really did was dress up and sing, but what else would you do? It's a song about death, I'm pretty glad they didn't act it out further than what they did. 8.5? you gents need to get your hearing checked.
If you're planning to react to one of Geoff's solo videos, from your comments of preferring the more fun orientated, try Monster Mash or The headless horseman. Misty mountains is also brilliant and sixteens tons is worth it for the bass side.
If it’s a bass battle you’re craving, may I recommend the newly formed Bass Gang. It’s an international quartet of exceptional bass singers. So far they’ve done a set of Billie Eilish covers and a Panic at the Disco song. They put all their videos together remotely so it’s a very different style of video but the voices are Geoff level quality. 👍
You would like If I were a Rich Man, I think. If you liked Moana, definitely check out the Little Mermaid one. Boy Bands in Five Minutes and Queen in Five Minutes are both fun as well.
Acapella isn't really my thing, but this was cool, deep voice dude makes me think of the late great Peter Steele. Bald dude's voice was good too, kindly a metal vibe! Keep these guys coming! If you are going to do that lower meter you need to do a good Type O Negative song!! B1 will survive.
Pentatonix is more pop music, Home Free is country, and VoicePlay is a bit harder to pigeonhole, they do pop, country, oldies, showtunes, and medley's. If you want something a bit more pop/rock then I'd suggest Bang, Superstition, Butter, We're Good. Now if you want some serious Bass and mind blowing low notes check out The Bass Gang "Emperor's New Clothes" they are an amazing group of 4 bass singers from all over the world and when the get together it is awesome.
If you aren't into the theatrical style, why don't you react to one of Voice Play's MANY non- or less broadway-like vids. Carry On Wayward Son, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, I Will Survive, Best Friends, Kiss, Man in the Mirror, Bang, Butter, We're Good, Go the Distance, If I Were a Rich Man as examples.
They always give a good performance. Costumes and makeup are on point but I'm not a fan of this more theatrical production. Honestly I lost interest in voice play when Earl left. He was my favorite in the group. Geoff has an amazing bass voice. His Sixteen Tons was really good.
@Sylvia Wagers They really do go all out on the costumes and make up. We are still very new to them and just starting to understand who is who and what has changed. We will follow up with some of the earlier ones to get a better understanding.
You boys are profoundly wrong in your assessment of Voiceplay. I’m almost to the point of being offended, but, then again, I will continue to like this rendition of the song You are entitled to your opinion, but let’s see how many agree with me, after the man in the dark shirt said he’s unimpressed. Wimp!

I agree 💯% I couldn't have said it better myself.
Sounds like a popular comment! Well done PAR500 Dragon, noted :) have a great week #BPR
I've not listened to VoicePlay, though I'm a PTX fan. But look what you made me do!
More VoicePlay please. they are all worth listening to.
I do hear what you are saying about this not being as impressive as things like Oogie Boogie, but this one is still just a glorious song in its own right. They may not be as animated as in some of their others, but they really just absolutely kill it on this performance for my tastes.

Thanks TraciM :) we shall to the Voiceplay list :)
I agree. 😊 I'm not a boy band fan but I enjoy their dance skills!?! Lol especially when they accidentally on purpose do the splits. All good fun.
“Accidentally on purpose”
I think I know which part of the video you’re talking about and yes, that’s hilarious :D

Sounds like their medleys might be more your thing. Which is cool, because they have a fair number of them and they're really good.

House of the Rising Sun is pretty good too
This is one of the most powerful, incredibly performed videos ever! Y’all are truly missing something and I feel sad for you.

That super low bass guy was cool, it was like a rumble, very clever!
@Lord Lockdowns Jukebox
How low can one go?
That was deeeeepppp
Whooo hooo! This was awesome and so entertaining. 👍😁👍. I love how they add so much character to their renditions which make them so entertaining to watch. It’s 9 from me. 👍🙂👍
Home Free also do a great Sea Shanty medley. It is sooo goood!

Seconding all these recommendations! And adding Warriors and Queen in 5 Minutes-those two are stage-show, but with a lot of physical movements.
Absolutely all of the above.
@@r.d.stratford106 I love Warriors because Layne is singing, beatboxing and playing violin.
@@TNJenni42 Yes! He is SO multi-talented! I think the hashtag back in the day was #vioLayne?

This is my favourite VP rendition
Very clever story telling in acapella. It's different, I quite like it.
Ooo, next challenge is their wicked medley which is phenomenal
They are fantastic! So talented!

You need to watch the do If I were a rich man/woman
Geoffs version of Shanendoah is STUNNING!
New subscriber 🙂 Voiceplay brought me here but I subscribed because of your reactions 😇
"That's high .... That's low .... 🤯🤯"
😂😂😂
😂 Trying to envision BP2 dropping something on his foot & hitting a high that cracks every window in the neighborhood. Good reaction.
Geoff has a five octave range

Thank you for the comment.
We have one of those coming very soon.
Check out their version of The Dragonborn Comes too!
This song was based on the original song from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean.
Their new one is from the Elder Scrolls video game. It's The Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim. It's their best work to date!
I’d love to see queen in 5 minutes.. has Geoffs lows and the old tenor, Earl, goes crazy high
@Quintin Porter
Now that sounds interesting.
We have it added to the list and will try and get to it soon.
