People try to defend him by saying "He's inexperienced so you can't expect him to be fast", but that is exactly why he never should've been there. He chose to do it, no one put him in that position except himself, so he doesn't deserve any pity
Nah. You gotta be fast from the get go. Making mistakes is normal, but being slow is a motorsport crime. For example, 17-yo Verstappen was never slow, not even in his first F1 season(2015), only reckless. You can be borderline crazy, but do not be slow.
PS: This is a perfect example of why F1’s feeder series should only be top karting drivers from the best series w/the FIA/F1 + real sponsors (not parents) footing the bill as no one without huge wealth can afford to race past karts. It’s why these formula feeder series are made up of a) 2-3 potentially special talents, b) 10 or so decent drivers w/very rich families and c) dozens of loaded no hopers.
A) Lance is just lazy + entitled, but has actual talent (which actually makes him so much more unlikeable). B) 95% of F2 drivers are kids w/incredibly rich parents. There is often only 1 driver that isn’t rich yet was so good they got real sponsorships.
Thing is, here in the Netherlands, Verstappen has made everybody in karting/racing crazy into thinking they're going to get to F1 as well. The Verstappen hype has sparked a lot of people into wanting to become an F1 driver, many of whom, like this guy, are not good enough. How can Koolen get to F2 you might ask? @@AnarRamazanov-po5leHonestly, with the "talent" that has graced the Indy 500 in the past, he may well not even come close to a mention on lists of terrible drivers to enter the Indy 500.
Yeah I don't understand why these rich kids, if they really want to play out their dreams of being racing drivers, don't just do club racing at weekends. It's wasting far less money and you've got much more chance of being decent at it. Sure, give professional racing a go if you must, but if you're useless in F4 you're not going to suddenly get good in F3 or F2 and you'll never qualify for a superlicence for F1. Just stop embarrassing yourself, go off and do BOSS Formula or a local club series, get it out of your system that way.
Starting karting at an older age isn't a problem - found out Takuma Sato started kart racing at 19, then won British F3 and made it to F1 around 4 to 5 years later in 2002! He did bicycle racing before motorsport!

I was a racing driver and not bad. Yet, as a teenager I wasn’t delusional enough to think I could ever make it anywhere close to F1. Once you start moving up, it _quickly_ becomes clear if you have the actual potential to be a pro in ANY series. 75% of the drivers in the junior formula series are absolute no hopers. Unfortunately, there are many teens without any common sense and whose parents will fund their hopeless delusions until they’re humiliated into giving up (and some never do - they just keep moving to different series that have pro-am mixes). The sad part is that even someone like myself could beat 50% of the F2 grid had I started earlier and had unlimited seat time due to endless money. It’s got to be so dispiriting/alienating having to work for drivers like this guy. OTH, the awful truth is even clowns like this are needed to keep up enough people employed to make the feeder series running, unless they get the costs under control.
I wouldn't say he is worse than Lord Mahaveer Ragunathan. Unless he can break penalty points records, of course by Lord Mahaveer Ragunathan (i forgot maybe around 20++ penalty points)
