Nice review, but you got the thicknesses wrong :) The Switchback is actually the thicker pad. It just folds into a smaller size because of the way the bumps fit together. The switchback is .9 inches thick when unfolded while the Zlite is .75 inches thick.
The idea is that an inflatable mat develops leaks gradually if you don't protect it from the ground. It may be warmer, but the cost / chore of patching adds up.
Hi, the no brand pad/foam I had was really not that good. Gave me body aches. These branded pads are way better than the one I had. These pads also control temperature. But the only no brand foam I tried wasn’t really designed like these two. I have seen something like thermarest / Nemo in Walmart and I don’t know how good they are. Never tried one of those. But, I guess they are decent too. I have been using my two pads for past few years and they are serving me amazingly well! And trust me I have been abusing them literally lmao. Specially while I’m on a backpacking trip I used them as my sitting pad as well lol.
The Nemo is orange side up. The metallic film has a shiny and a dull side. The shiny side faces the orange side. It still reflects heat and don't get dull out from rubbing on things. Not sure if the thermo rest is the same or not
This is a thing that there is no actual sure right answer in everywhere that I know of it. And there is no cord heat that needs to be reflected back, any heat is good there is no such thin in science or really in the nature as coldnes, only low temperatures. Insulation is for keeping the higher temperature in, it does not go the other way by conduction or radiation, only by movement of air. And that is where foam pads are the best, air inside them is not getting anywhere with their higher temperature. I just make things complicated now. Infrared radiation is good even if it comes from cold ground, but it mostly comes from your body and matter heated up by it, so the reflective film there is supposed to reflect that back toward you, so that you do not lose so much heat energy to warm it, and you stay warmer. Material that takes heat radiation from the ground but still reflects yours back is the holy grail, we are not that picky about where the heat come are we *edit acording to manufacturers shiny side up for Thermarest and down for Nemo.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Peace, Love & Prosperity to you!
Surely the silver side faces the body to reflect the body heat? Good video nonetheless 👍🏼
Thank you for your kind words. I made this couple of years ago. I think I need to make an updated version. Lol
Try using them above an air mat. It's a warmer solution in cold conditions than if you place the foam mat under the air mat.
Yes. I do use my air mattress. Thank You for your comment. Happy backpacking ❤️

@@ExtremeSquared Yup! Happy Backpacking 🏕
Leaving my sleeping pad folded makes a great seat also. Thanks for your video.
Yesss!!! 🙌🙌
are these thermarest pads better than the no brand foam pads? if yes why?
