Yes, and no. Police don't gas about bike theft. Luckily my insurance paid out in full, that didn't pay for all the modifications I did to my bike though.

I’ve got both of my bikes marked with Magic Water and registered via my local police. Riding in a group is also a very good idea. I’m in the process of purchasing a lock that I can either apply on the brake lever or the brake disc which would make it difficult for any potential theft to make a quick getaway.

Yeah nah mate, that ABUS Bordo can be twisted open with a long enough lever in about 5 seconds, happens all the time, a mate of mine was lucky that a shop owner stopped a thief doing just that to my mate's bike when he was just out of sight.
The best protection is to make it extremely tedious for thieves to open locks, so I bring two different big sturdy frame/tyre locks and two small brake disk locks whenever I have to leave my bike in public for longer, giving thieves as hard a time as possible or deterring them in the first place.

All our bikes have an Apple Airtag. Allready managed to recover my wife's stolen bike (with help from the Brussels police). And the main rule remains valid: you don't need to run faster than the lion, just faster than the last guy. So make sure your bike is harder to steal than the bike next to it.

Abus Bordo 6500, despite what you say, isn't particularly angle grinder resistant, and that's the weapon of choice for today's bike -stealing scrote. There's videos on RUclips showing them being cut in 16 seconds. Much better getting a Litelok X3. Slightly heavier (340g) but takes numerous discs to cut (up to 8 or 9 as it has to be cut twice) and I honestly don't think anybody will be carrying that many. Yes, they're expensive, but let's face it, so are our bikes. We'll never make anything completely theft-proof, but slowing the little bastards down is all we can do. The longer it takes the more likely they'll be caught.

Unfortunately both my mate and myself had our Haibikes stolen out of our works van at Nuttsford services. As it was in a military vehicle my insurance wouldn't pay up as it was insured for personal use only. Plus the military wouldn't except responsibility either so £6000 out of pocket. Had to dig into my savings and purchase a new Haibike12 from the same dealer lucky the knocked some money off for us. I'm now with cycle plan insurance and we have just got back from Wales riding with work, this time bikes locked to the van inside and posted sentrys out when we stopped for a brew lol.

There is a wider societal issue at play with this type of crime that we all need to examine and ask why. We've all seen the level of low level crimes like this escalate over the past decade with bikes, ebikes, motorbikes, scooters etc...the culprits are always of the same ilk.

I only use a cheap snowboard cable lock to prevent walk off thieves, as ALL locks you’d carry while biking are easily defeated in a few seconds by a battery powered angle grinder. That said, the Bosch motor disabler is a clever use of tech
