    I find with my seatpost on my Levo its actually an infinite height setting seatpost which means I can run it so as the seatpost is litteraly in the middle of its travel so I don't have the slider piece fully extended and having it exposed to the dirt and extreme leverage when fully extended works a treat

    Sorry but I mostly disagree with your ideas of power modes. I almost exclusively use Eco mode except when riding home. I personally like the exertion required to climb hills in Eco. It's one of the joys of riding a bicycle, exercise. I ride an e-bike so I can actually climb the hills like I did 20 years ago, not to cruise up them with little to no effort. I have used Turbo mode on a hill climb but that was just to get up it at all without walking the whole thing. Otherwise, it's Eco and if I come to a climb and I'm tired enough at the end of the ride or it's a really brutal, I might go to Tour. I did a full ride in Tour mode last week and it just wasn't fun. Faster, for sure, but not as fun. These are my own opinions, certainly, other's will vary. I know there are many e-bike riders who don't like exertion at all and do spend their entire rides in more powerful modes. I don't really understand it, but it's their choice as to how to enjoy their bikes.
    Also, my riding mainly in Eco mode does not mean I'm not riding my e-bike as it's meant to be ridden, only that I'm riding my e-bike as I want to ride it.

    Biggest mistake I see on 'new' ebike riders is trying to 'coast' (stopping pedaling) over technical areas. Then stalling when they have to climb. The nature of the ebike motor (Levo) is that it takes a second to ramp up and if you stop pedaling you can find yourself in a tough gear and without enough assist (motor torque) to get moving again and clear a technical obstacle. This is also a reason pedal trikes are so common on the ebikes, the need to keep pedaling ALWAYS! That and the dang low BBs!
    Eco at 25% for smooth tarmac climbs/transitions - Trail 50% for most enduro/trail riding - Turbo 75% for the ugly climbs, 100% turbo causes too much wheel spin for me and adds too much 'assist' for technical climbs causing the bike to 'squirt' out from under me almost, better to spin up the cadence. Better to shift gears and spin, than try and grind.

      also just get a better ebike like optibike that uses internally geared hub with instant shifting.

      Yeah just get a real bike, start of easy on lower gears and shorter rides, and have the discipline to actually stick with it. Otherwise an e-bike will make zero difference and you won't get in shape. And it's really worth it, you miss out on alot if you don't have strong legs to go with your strong motor.

    Most of these mistakes are just the same for regular mountainbiking. Also if you are wheelying up steep climbs it is a) you are riding a bike that is too short or b) your seat angle is too slack. That is clearly the case of that kenovo and the presenter.

    One comment about the powermodes. I see eco as a mode to ride a bike with 2.8 tires and 180mm of travel as easy as an XC hardtail.

      Depends on your fitness level I guess. For me, eco on my 160mm travel emtb feels more like riding my old 130mm travel 26" trail bike. I was riding in eco a fair bit but the guy I ride with is always in turbo so I've upped mine to trail to even things out a bit.

    Cadence on a road bike to keep the heart rate in a comfortable place, should be 80-100 rpm. Hard climbs they get down to about 60...less than that and it gets to be really hard work on your heart. E-bike works best at around 70rpm.... your app should give you stats so you can train yourself to keep to 70rpm.... Just use the assistance along with the conventional gears to keep to it. Highest gear with least assistance will keep the battery in line with the brand's distance claims. I've done about 500k since buying my Giant fathom e3 and it's an incredible piece of kit and I'm gaining confidence as well as improving my fitness levels. The only change I've made to the bike is to put anti-warp rotors on because I burnt out the factory fitted ones on steep public road descends. I find myself way less reliant on the sport and boost mode, than in the beginning few kilometres of owning the bike

    ECO mode untill it's a rear struggle get the best miles out of that battary. But if your doing shuttering offpiste then turbo it get as many laps in as pos

    clunkers/cruisers with reverse pedal brakes are still the most adrenaline pumping bikes out there.
    the chances of NOT crashing are slim and it refines one's ability to pick the best line as they are totally unforgiving .

    Good points Chris, but I do have 2 Questions if you have the time, or just point me in the right direction to view another of you podcasts... 1. Platform pedals, or clip-ins? I have been using clip-ins with cleated shoes on my mtb for years but you and many others I ride mtbs with ride on platforms... what's your advice?
    2. Are carbon fibre E-MTBs a waste of money, there appears to be little or no weight loss to be gained with a carbon framed and wheeled eMTB?

      I know you didn't like me, but I still my clipins because I like being connected to the bike and not to worry about being bounced of the pedals at any time. I suppose it's my lack of time on flat pedals I've never had a problem click out in time to stop a fall. But I've also been using clipins since Look pedals became popular in the mid 80's. They're a huge improvement over toe-clips and straps that actually do lock your foot to pedals.

    I leave it in eco mostly, mainly to get a workout. I can burn over a thousand calories for about a couple hours of riding.

    So the standard rules about saddle height and body position when climbing don't apply for e bikes? Because as a traditional mountain biker what he said makes no sense to me.

      Think he said dropper post raised, sitting on the nose of the saddle and upper body weight over forks to keep the front wheel on the ground. Thought they were the standard rules for climbing? It's how I've always done it, pre and post emtb, but then I'm not the best rider so prob had it wrong the whole time lol

    How about if your on the right gear and have it in eco but it gets steep and switch to trail without switching gears, will that ruin any of the drivetrain or is that ok to do?

    Always turbo mode, everything lower is just for saving the battery.

      I've done this a few times but I'm only finding I'm getting no more than about 20 to 25km in Turbo mode, which isn't enough for me. Ideally I like riding at least 35km with about 800-1000m elevation. I can't do that in Turbo mode alone.

      that's a lot of elevation. i've had 27.52mi. 1,320f on road only, all in turbo mode, 22% battery remaining

      Depends on battery size, Weight of the bike and on the bike, What gears you use, How much wind resistance, Percentage of inclines tackled, What power modes used (But power modes vary in percentage on different bikes) And how efficient the controller is.. That determines how far you travel before needing a recharge. So it's not straight forward to say "I can get more miles than you on my e-bike" Unless we level out the playing field and share bike stats.....

      @Tom Weaver, That’s a bad statement. Everyone has different metabolism. That means maybe a skinnier person has to eat TONS to gain 1 pound. On the other side, there’s people that go on a diet, workout lots, try to eat hot as much, and still gain pounds. Also, please don’t use “:D” twice after telling someone that they’re not in shape. They are. Please learn a lesson from this. Thanks.

      I love my ebike. I now spend more time in fat burning zone and travel further. On my road bike I spent a lot of time in the anaerobic zone and was always knackered.

    i dont think tubeless is a must.. as long as you run good tyres with good thick sidewalls and good tubes like conti tubes which are really thick tubes you will be fine running around 40 to 50psi also... i think tubeless is just a sales gimic imo it works for some and dosent for others, ive ran good tubes in mine for ages and had no problems at all, i tried tubeless and nothing but problems haha

    That 2019 Kenevo comes with 2.8 Butcher tyres that are rated 15-30psi.

    "Use only the rear brake"??? Where did THAT myth come from?
    I realize that with rear-hub bikes you've got more weight back there, but you still have a dominant braking capability up front.
    This is a fact on anything from a cheap commuter to the craziest superbikes. I felt absolutely helpless when my commuter was having front brake problems!
    (Also his back tire was in the air, his back brake wasn't doing squat. You'll actually get better braking performance if you can keep the back on the floor and not skidding. Impressive modulation not going over the handlebars though!)

Where did THAT myth come from?" --- Couldn't agree more, whether I'm riding my road bicycle, my mountain bike, or my dirt bike, the main stopping for is from the front brake. You have to be careful in soft or slippery terrain to be sure, otherwise, if you only depend on your rear brake, you're not using all of your bike's braking potential and are likely locking up that rear wheel far more than you should be. Which is not very environmentally friendly. Ruin's trails actually.
      Oh, and riding street and dirt motorcycles and bicycles for most of my 63 years, I have NEVER gone over the bars from using too much f-brake. I have, however, slid the f-wheel out by over braking the front when terrain was more slippery than I intended on a rare occasion, but those were MY mistakes of not paying close enough attention to the terrain at the time. Sliding over braking, not making mistakes;)

    Well, most of the tips are quite obvious. But I love the channel. An other question. Do you have your breaks swapped around at the handlebar?Just the opposit way of them usually beeing placed for front and rear?

      In the UK it's pretty much every bike that has the front brake on the right and the rear on the left.

      @@bruzza3031 On motorcycles that makes sense to have the front brake lever on the right and it is like that everywhere. But on bicycles at least in Germany the rear brake is right and the front brake is left.

    Hi Guys,
    There is a lot of info going around as to e-bikes on BLM. A rule was passed to treat them as non-motorized vehicles, as regular mtb bikes. However, this has not gone into effect and it is mostly up to individual field managers in each region. It will go through a public needs process to determine if and how it will be enacted. I called the field managers in Moab and Fruita to let them know that we, as e-mtb riders want the same access to the same trails as non-e. I'm not sure if this will help or not. We may need to wait until they take input from the public to be heard. I figure it's never to early to start advocating for our cause. Please, at the very least keep your ears out for these public hearing and do your part to advocate for our sport. Ask to be notified one they have a date. If we don't the non-e riders (haters) will and we will continue to be discriminated against in the future. Also, feel free to call these field managers and let them know that we are hungry for access to BLM and deserve to be treated the same as non-e mtb riders. Pass on the word to all your e-friends.

    My CX has ECO, TOUR, EMTB, TURBO...
    How come traps and/or cleats aren't used on EMTBs?
    I am used to traps on my old regular mt bike but, can't even mount traps on the pedals on my Cube.

    Not totally correct regarding the braking. Think you are 12, you always do 1 things: drive full speed (non e times) and braking only with the rear wheel. As longer the black stream on the road the better. King you are when you can see the inside of the tire. As long as your dad recognizes ;)

    Turbo, Eco? Maybe like 5% of e-bikes have these modes. Others have just assist power 1-5 and that's it.
