Another lovely song written by John with a similar theme is “Spread Your Wings”.

If you haven’t seen Queen’s 20 minute set at “Live Aid”, you should!

Check out early Queen, perhaps first “speed metal”, “Stone Cold Crazy”, live at the Rainbow 1974.

It's a spoof of the long running (since@1950) British soap, Coronation Street. This song was written by bassist John Deacon. Several interpretations...women's lib, some say John wanting to break out of his shyness or wanting to leave the group and be with his family...it was NOT about Freddie being gay. The US freaked thinking it was about that and refused to play it. Queen never played in the US after that. Ironically, the one in curlers was the only one who had curly hair and didn't need them, Brian.
They did gospel style (Let me live). blues (My melancholy blues), jazz ( Dreamer's ball), waltz (Millionaire waltz), folk ('39), vaudeville (Seaside rendezvous), ballads (One year of love, love of my life), rockabilly (Crazy little thing called love), semi operatic (Bohhemian rhapsody, Innuendo) hard rock, pop.....anything.

      *Coronation Street started in _1960_
      _not_ 1950.
I watched the _first_ episode with my Mum (on a black 'n' white television) and I was born in _1953_ _not_ earlier!!

It was an MTV decision not to air the video (as they had previously done with the “Body Language” video). The American audience didn’t understand the parody of Coronation St. so, yes, didn’t get the context but I highly doubt the men in drag thing was highly offensive as, even then, there had been and were multiple American comics, movies and tele shows featuring such themes.

One of my granddaughter’s faves‼️😃 Yep, MTV censored it, which shocks me! Then Freddie swore that Queen would never tour the U.S. again. Queen’s last live performance in America was on Saturday Night Live 1982. It’s a shame cuz we American Queenies suffered greatly! FYI - Queen’s BODY LANGUAGE was the first ever music video banned from MTV. 😫💦

Queen's also done music from the 20s/30s, 50s, blues, soul, punk, etc. with themes of love (including love of cars and cats), murder, fantasy worlds, science fiction stories, etc. They are the most diverse band I've ever loved (since 1975). My favorite diverse solo artist is Kate Bush (though David Bowie is up there).
I love songwriters that can tell a story; one so vivid, you can see it in your mind. Queen does that (Kate, too). I'm so glad you've become a Queen fan; it's a wonderful journey.

My music world changers in date order... very few modern bands have covered or changed genres like these
    1) Bill Haley
    2) Little Richard
    3) Beatles
    4) Led Zeppelin & Black Sabbath
    5) Queen
    6) David Bowie
    7) Pink Floyd

Thanks, Stan! So funny.. despite the "noise" at the time, had nothing to do with Freddie's sexual orientation.. in fact written by bassist John Deacon (who reportedly said that the theme was really about "women's liberation").. and the "drag" has been for years more accepted in UK than here ... also, based on a popular "soap" called "Coronation Street".. where they played characters on the show.. totally lost on USA audience.. appreciate your reaction!
