One veteran to another you need to listen to their song Hero
That's one of my favorite songs from them. I'm going to see them live this year and can't wait for that.
I heard them live once and want to go see them again. It is an amazing experience
Absolutly agree with that suggestion
Rise is another great one!
As a veteran I urge you to listen to the lyrics of this song with someone with PTSD in mind. I have it and this song explains how I feel everyday. The video even shows that he is the monster.
Frontman John Cooper explained to StereoTruth: "It's a song about being fake and putting on a face for people that's not the real you. But it's basically about the nature of sin and the nature of the divine, which is the duel nature we have as Christians. Everyday we have to strive to throw away the old and be that new person in Christ."
Cooper expanded on the song to Christianity Today magazine: "In a theological sense, the song is about original sin. You are born into the human race, you're guilty or sinful, no matter what you hope to be. 'Monster' is about the fact that there is somebody we know we don't want to be. Some people call it the old man or the old self. That guy wants to creep out when you're driving and somebody cuts you off. You wonder as a Christian, how do I keep it at bay? I liken it to the idea of a '50s horror film of this beast inside you coming alive."
Cooper also told us how the song profoundly affected a security guard he met at one of the band's concerts. "He had been a heroin addict for years and years and he lost his family, he lost his kid. He was kind of going to die, and he heard the song 'Monster.' He said, 'That's exactly how I felt. And it was that song that talked me into going to rehab, basically. I realized that I was living inside somewhere underneath, and I had to get out. And that was several years ago.'"
Fantastic explanation.
I think this can also apply to mental illnesses. It makes a lot of sense
Perfect. I feel like a monster breaking out of me a lot. Praise JESUS for keeping it at bay.
I saw skillet at whinter jam and he explained it to us
Anybody who loves this song like I do had to get overjoyed when Billy got caught off guard by the Monster @ 4:12
He was like wtf
Oh, yeah! Definitely! We all have a monster to face. That monster's name is sin, and that monster ain't playin' games. He's playin' for keeps! Only through the Blood, the power, and the Spirit of Jesus Christ, can we ever have the victory. The Apostle Paul said:"I die daily". What did he mean? He meant that, in order to live for Jesus Christ, we gotta tell our old, natural man:"Get up on the cross, and die out, in Jesus's mighty name"! That's the ONLY way to overcome sin!
@@ronaldshank7589 amen man
That was my fave part of the video and its my fave part of the song cuz it seems so outta place at first and the more u listen to it, the more it belongs. Reacting to it like he did shows his newbie-ness
😆🤣😆🤣😂. He did the double triple take. Like "what did I just hear?"
Listen to skillet hero, awake and alive and rise 100% worth it
Basically the whole Awake and Alive album haha
Don’t forget Sick Of It, Not Gonna Die, Resistance, and Finish Line
4:14 🤘🤘🤘
You were not ready for that, huh ?!?! 🤣🤣🤣
I think that's the more iconic part of that song.. 🤘🤘
My sister in law used to sing along as a toddler. Hitting the growls every time. Running in circles in the living room. There is 29 years between us
Skillet- awake and alive.
Skillet is a great Christian Rock band. They remind me a bit of DC Talk in how they approach it. They're not in your face about faith, and talk about subjects everyone can relate to.
MAAAAN, DC Truth. Been a minute.
@@sliderblackrose4287 DC Talk you mean? Yeah, they where early 90s. Toby Mac's big break I think
Calling them a Christian band is a nice way to put it
My kids are so excited you are doing this! They love Skillet!
Skillets music started good, and has gotten only better over time.
Nah, they have gone down hill with their last two albums
Their 1st album was meh to me at least. Way to preachy even for a Christian band but yeah they've only gotten better and better but Awake and Alive album is still their best
As huge Skillet fan all there CDs are Epic . I don't see no album of there's as down hill . But everyone may have a different taste in music. I saw them 2007 2008 2009. Hopefully see them again one day . I actually meet John in 2008 . Very nice person saw him walking up the steps and he said some words to me and my mom.
The Tao of Gaming skillets prime was collide-awake albums, since then nothing special
This song is a prime example of the saying "I am my own worst enemy."
I always say, the human mind is the scariest place to be. It's not uncommon to have bad thoughts pop up, or for people to do unimaginable things to one another, many times because of lack in empathy or experience living through equivalent trauma. Many cerial killers were found to have minimal, if any, reaction to pain stimuli, and I've heard of arsonist/murderers who dont feel heat.
I wouldn't say example, but a reiteration of that saying.
It’s a metaphor for the sins we feel when they way us down love this group great Christian rock and amazing lyrics and music
a few years ago i went to winter jam and they were there and i remember this song and they had this monster thing that they were standing in and it had fire coming out of it. they are great performers tho ❤️
There epic live I went to winter jam around 12 years ago . That's only time I meet them in person but I saw them 3 times so far live . :) Hopefully I go again this or next year.
Never heard Skillet until last year. Saw them live with AB. Now I love them!!
The sequel to this song is "back from the dead" by skillet. It's a great song & deserves a reaction
this song always makes me think of Three Days Grace - Animal I Become.
They are so similar.
Jason Stagg this one came after that one and is often thought of a copycat song
Listen to whispers in the dark
😂 love the reaction!! Especially with the growl! I adore skillet and all their music! Glad you reacted to this!
I haven’t seen that MV since high school, man. This song was my jam. I couldn’t even pay attention to your reaction the first time through because I was bobbing my head singing along. Thanks for the nostalgia trip, Billy.
Maybe do some Three Days Grace songs while you’re listening to this type of music. They had a lot of good stuff
Yes! A million times yes!
Your reaction to the growl 😂
You should react to tobymac- 21years!! Its about his son and billy you so emotional may enter the chat
You gotta do “back from the dead”, it’s a sequel to this one. And also “hero”, “not gonna die”, “awake and alive”, “I want to live”, “out of hell”, “burn it down”, “the resistance”, “breaking free”, “set it off”, “you get me high”, “victorious”, “this is the kingdom”, “save me”, and “finish line” (they’re my fav band! That’s me with the lead singer in my profile)
And also “not ready to make nice” - Dixie chicks
“21 years” - tobyMac
Skillet “hero” like it’s the necessity!!!
You should react to Hero by them as well
My son loves singing this song. He is "this close" to nailing the growl. I used to listen to Skillet (they are awesome in concert) but I really quit listening to them. My son was singing this one day and asked if I had ever heard of them. I was like "baby. I saw them in concert at a youth conference when I was 15. So cool."
U should definitely review skillet whispers in the dark
I’ve seen them live twice and I even have a skillet tattoo on my arm now. I’m still trying to get a meet and greet with them.
You should definitely react to Skillet - Not Gonna Die
My husband is a combat vet, and he said this perfectly describes his PTSD. It's like a monster inside of him, that he has to fight to control.
I am seriously so stoked you reviewed this video. I am a huge panhead (Skillet fan). so this made me happy. One of the best bands you can ever see live. And also such powerful underlying messages.
Please react to Hero by them (Skillet). I think Monster is a hard one if you're not big on the genre or know the band. Hero (and many others) will be more meaningful for you imo
You should react to feel invincible by skillet
Listen to their song "Hero" or "Last Night"
Yes! "The Last Night" and "I Want to Live" legit got me through high school!
One of my favorite Skillet songs, thanks for the reaction Billy.
This song is about the rage that we all experience from time to time, and how no matter what we do to mask our feelings and control our behavior, sometimes we just can’t hold back.
A lot of people compare this song and Animal I Have Become by Three Days Grace
indeed.. thats instantly what i thought of when this first came out
This is my grandkids favorite song. My oldest grandson heard it just under two and it's been his favorite ever since. He's 11 now. The other grandkids followed. Skillet is there favorite band. .
skillet is a christian band so my youth church used to play this before service. once my mom walked in and heard this song and almost forced us to leave!
Skillet is incredible band be cool hear that stuff at my churches . Need go back one day been to long.
Monster was the first Skillet song I remember listening to, and to this day it's still one of their best.
When they break out of the facility at the end of the video and run away into the light, I get chills.
To me, it symbolizes hope and freedom when we break free of our "monster" and run to Jesus and into a new day.
This shit just hit me with whiplash, threw me back like six fuckin years holy shit
Brother, for real, this song came out shortly after my second combat tour... my friends had no idea how I felt coming home and back into the “Christian” social groups. I told my best friend, if he really wanted to know how I felt dealing with PTSD... go listen to this song. It explained how I felt about myself better than I could put into words. Skillets music has helped me through so much of my transition into the civilian life.
100% you need to react to “Hero” by Skillet!
Thank you for your service brother!
This MV actually has a follow-up/continuation in the MV for Back From The Dead (another Skillet song), so feel free to check that out if you're interested.
I went to this concert back in 2011 or 2012 bro they were on fire 80k people plus me waited all night for them to play this song they had flames everytime the girl drummer was kicking ass that was my fist ever concert i went to was skillet not alot people can say that but i can
Fun fact: the harmony in the chorus is coming from the drummer, Jen Ledger. She’s a beast both on drums and in terms of vocals.
More Skillet! "Watching For Comets" :3
Skillet "it's not me it's you" should be your next skillet reaction!! It like completes this song.
Always love me some Skillet
The very first song I heard by the band, and has been my favorite since.
Thanks this my 7 year old grandson favorite song
You should check out their song "Invincible". It's an awesome song.
One of my favorite songs love the actual meaning behind it
You should definitely watch their song “invincible” and “hero”. Those songs paint an amazing picture for this band
Everytime I watch old skillet videos, I think to myself how it is possible that the girls haven't aged a day and the guys look better now than back then....
I love this song because I can relate to it in the fact that normally I am a nice Pacifist kind of guy but when I'm really angry my anger takes control and I get a massive boost of strength because of adrenaline and god help anyone at that point but because I don't like that side of myself I learned anger management and I do whatever I can to keep my stress as low as possible to avoid getting pissed off and losing control so my anger is my inner monster
Man I have seen this band live 3 times and they are truly incredible! I could give you a lengthy list of songs to check out by them but I'll keep it short lol
1. Hero
2. Awake
3. The Last Night
4. Those Night's
5. Lucy
Band is actually Christian in the songs typically just about Sin
As a recovering alcoholic this describes how some days are
This song about the music industry trying to pollute their music & the constant fight between good and evil. It also has a meaning about addiction.
My favorite song of them
“the secret side of me i never let u see, it comes awake and i cant control it” when ur in a debate about politics and u get so angry u cant keep ur cool anymore
I am more worried about people who can't feel their own monster than someone who admits to theirs
There is another video that they just put out recently called Back from the Dead and it is supposed to be several years after this.
I watched this just to see your face at the "Monster" growl lol
Hero, Whispers in the Dark, and Better than Drugs by Skillet r worth listening to
If Weird Al Yankovic did a parody of this song, it would be called "I feel like a Munster!".
I fell like a monster and never told anyone.
skillet is an christian rock band its my favorite its loud they are good this my favorite song love your channel always ring bell when i come in like button i called it ringing the bell !
Anytime anyone has told me I needed help I've told them that no one is qualified to help me here.
Skillet songs hero, not gonna die, whispers in the dark, stars
Love this song!!
Hearing them perform this live a few years ago and hearing the roar live was amazing!
React to Hero!!
Dude I am a beast in real life when that song plays I turn into a monster
I f****** jumped up and danced all the way a broke my leg in my arm
One of my fav. songs here
It went from a reaction to him being a therapist lol
Skillet is my number 1 favorite Christian rock band. If you're looking for more skillet songs to react to, try Lions, the resistance, rise, sick of it, and stars.
Lol billy I am lmbo at your Reac tion I feel the same way you do 😄😄😄
MORE SKILLET! Awake and alive is a must reaction it's just as good!
Ah, My Favorite Skillet Song.
When the guy did that monster voice it reminds me a bit of Disturbed- "The Sickness".
Dude Disturbed are touring the USA this year! Got my meet and greet tickets already
If you weren't ready for that growl you should react to Jinjer. Those growls will definitely throw you for a loop 😊
My favourite band
First time I heard “Monster” was an Incredible Hulk RUclips video
This song is my I'm mad at someone but it helps me get it out of it.
This is a great song by them. If you enjoyed you should definitely take a listen to hero, rise, or whispers in the dark. All great songs by skillet
Watch Back From the Dead and Save me in that order they are sequels to this video!
Wow I'm back in high school right now.
Skillet - Hero!
you've got to react to Hero when it comes to Skillet it's probably their biggest song and salutes to vets and first responders
When it comes out of one side (usually the left) that the actual video not the headphones
react to " sick puppies - odd one"
"sick puppies - cancer "
you'll love it
Also, Sick Puppies - You're Going Down
Just make sure it's the uncensored version.
Timed Revolver yes I agree & Maybe by Sick Puppies
@@AJR-go1it Ooh, "There's No Going Back" by Sick Puppies is also amazing.
Yes, that's a great one!
My parents have called me a monster many times.. I've tried getting help I've had 4 therapists quit on me cause they couldn't deal with my mental problems
love this song
Another Christian rock band that might be worth you checking out is Seventh Day Slumber. They're song "Caroline" made me cry many a times during my teenaged years.
been there done that. Monster in me too.
Oh yes!!!!!!! Keep being awesome 🦄🥓
Skillet is my jam! I've seem them like 4 times live, and they're amazing every time. Can you please react to Hail to the King by Avenged Sevenfold?
If you listen closely to the bridge; you'll hear he's talking about the devil being after his soul. And we all have a sinful nature. So we resist. Fight it.
