This is an old video, but judging from the comments, people are still finding it. I have seen a few videos on the subject of gamer types. Bartle's system is a good start, but he came at this from a specific type of game - MUDs (the ancestor of MMOs), so his system is based on a particular subset of gamers - those who would be interested in playing online multiplayer games. It is generalized from this to some degree, but when other types of games are taken into account, the categories can seem rather forced or not entirely relevant. The socializer category is particularly interesting, as it encompasses two elements of games that are not as closely related as they may seem at first glance. There is a huge difference between interacting with other gamers and interacting with NPCs. Other gamers are real people, very often exhibiting their worst behavior due to online anonymity, while NPCs are programmed. At best, NPC interactions likely fit better in the explorer category, but they would work best in a separate category involving story telling in general. I am an extremely anti-social gamer. I will not, under any circumstance, play a game that includes other people. However, exploring the stories of NPCs in narrative-focused games is interesting to me. Creativity is also not covered well by this system, though most creative activities would likely fall in the explorer or achiever quadrants. Building games weren't prominent when this system was developed, though SimCity had a following at the time. There are other gamer classification systems that treat creativity as a separate category.
This is an interesting topic, and there don't seem to be a lot of recent videos on it. Maybe there is more work that could be done to refine the concept.

hey, great video, it just has one flaw, I hope it's fixed by now, but your microphone is capturing too much of your S, i mean, the sound S makes, it's loud, it could easily be fixed with a program that removes those specific frequencies so it stays consistent when you say S. it's just a suggestion, cause the amount of times my microphone is hurting my ears when you say S is too frequent, but overwall the videwo is just perfect

Not gonna lie, that test is like super bad. These are some loaded ass questions.
    I got 93% explorer. 47% Achiever. 40% Socialiser. 20% Killer.
Doesn't surprise me since the games I really LOVE tend to be single player games with a good challange level with replayability so I can try new strats on a second playthrough. Or games where you really can't find everything on your first playthrough. Stuff like Fallout New Vegas, Darkwood, Prey (2017). I expected my achiever to be higher and my socializer to be lower though since I also really like games like DOOM eternal where I can really put in some effort to master the mechanics. Though honestly, my socializer being high does make some sense. I also just love it when I sit on the couch next to a lad of mine playing through a singleplayer game together and I love it even more if he makes me do the hard parts. I love it when I figured out a puzzle before him or when I figured out a mechanic or story theme/thread before he did and I get to explain it. I guess I'm a bit of a show-off.

yeah the test is rly poorly made - too binary and specific. solid choices tho - definitely seems like you're the type to explore

I'm definitely an adaptive player - but what got me into video games at first was definitely the community aspect and the feeling of achievement and being better than other players.
I first started playing games like Smash and Mario Kart with my siblings and friends where I would always try to be (and ended up being) the best. I then was introduced to games like Runescape where I spent most of my time training to be the best PVP character in the Wilderness. But I also appreciated the social aspect and liked meeting friends who would go to the Wilderness with me to kill other players. Then I found MapleStory which really helped me through a period of my life because it filled the social void I felt in the real world. I really enjoyed playing with other players and leveling up together. Everything changed when I was introduced to League of Legends and ranked games where I had to do whatever it took to win as many games possible with my favorite champions. The feeling of accomplishment to dominate the Top lane, and to Teleport gank other opponents to carry the game was so exhilarating.
Now I enjoy games with friends such as Among us, where I am always trying to win regardless of who I am playing with. But I will definitely also play games that are supposed to be some of the best RPG's in our time. A game I just finished was The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. I also love other open world games such as the Fallout series, and Far Cry. Final Fantasy will always have a special place in my heart because of the beautiful music and storylines.
I am really excited for Cyberpunk 2077 and the new COD.
Took the test: I am 80% Killer, 60% Socializer, 53% Achiever, 7% Explorer.

Wasn't expecting that much killer but given the history you described it makes more sense. Thanks for sharing bro
