    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

    I actually think the most important is the camera angle, so you can see if packages are left at your door. New options like Unifi G4 has two cameras for this purpose and better integration if you are using their network. Also might have been useful if you covered Eufy as that's a decent local option as a standalone for novices - and battery version lasts up to 6 months.

    • @AlexTeo

      yeah i saw the G4 pro announcement recently, looks good. Same for eufy, didn't manage to get my hands on one

    This is a very good doorbell camera for security as shown by the short response time. My only gripe with the Google Nest Doorbell is the non-removable battery. As shown in your video, charging it requires taking it down from its mount and plugging it into a charger for about four and a half hours. During this time, there is a security/surveillance downtime. Thankfully, there is the wired option which doesn't require one to ever take it down for charging as it is on perpetual power. Great video!

    The problem with the Nest doorbell is no one knows it is clickable. There are some guys on reddit seeing stickers of doorbell icon that you can paste over the round button. Works wonders, never had someone hand knock the door in the first try. Second 'issue' is there is a 1-3 second delay when the user press the doorbell vs being notified by the smart speakers - there is just no one that I know of who knows how to install a physically chime to connect to the smart doorbell... awkward when your door is open, the delivery guy/whoever dingdong, and only 2 seconds later the sound plays lol. If there are some who knows how to install for a reasonable fee please share here!

    Thanks for this video comparison. I was a Ring 2 user for a while but switched away after a firmware updated reduced battery life to a mere 10 days or so - this after switching out to a new battery, and turning off motion sensors! I’m now using the Eufy Video Doorbell 2K (Battery-powered) which gives me the features of the Ring 2 without the need for a monthly subscription. Best feature of all - I only needed to recharge the battery once after using it for 11 months! (Note: I don’t turn on motion sensor as my flat’s door directly faces a neighbour’s)

    I bought the nest doorbell recently too - and just realised that the free "3 hour event history" advertised is on a continuous basis, i.e. if someone breaks into my house at 1am, the video is deleted by 4am and I won't be able to see the recording by the time I wake up. This makes a Nest Aware subscription pretty much a necessity. The doorbell itself works well but the marketing language is pretty misleading.

    been using the nest doorbell wired for sometime and i must say it's the better solution compared to ring doorbell. also, consider setting up google home instead. i have nesthub setup everywhere in the apartment; bedrooms, kitchen, living room. anytime there's a doorbell, i could see who's outside without much movement on my part. subscription to nest aware is a must for all the features you need.

      @Alex Teo the old nest doorbell wired only version. ring isn't continuous recording because of how it has to handle wired chime, it uses internal battery to record, for a time limit. after a few years of use, you need to replace this battery, if i rmb correctly.

      @@sable2008 I read about this yesterday night on sg law articles that as long as any doorbell with a video recording or camera function, it means it’s under cctv category and it’s a violation of intrusion of privacy. That means the owner must firstly lodge an application with police then follow by an approval from town council. Once approved by both of them, then only you can buy the device. If not, if you just buy the video doorbell & install outside of your house without official approval and your neighbour officially complains to the town council, the authorities will step in and ask you to remove the device entirely. Then it will be a full waste of money. I really wanted to purchase this nest doorbell but now I am worried about this issue!

    I found the specs very misleading... without any subscriptions, Google states "Up to three hours of event video history". I interpreted this as 3 hours of video recording storage but upon using the doorbell, you only get past 3 hours of video event, sadly not a total of 3 hours of events/videos. For example, if something happened at night at 1am, event recorded will only be available until 4pm. Event recorded would be gone as it would happened more than 3 hours ago.

      I have the Philips smart door viewer and don’t see what features it’s lacking compared to these other smart doorbells. It’s able to provide live video feed of who’s outside the door, alert me via phone notification when someone rings the doorbell, allow me to communicate remotely via the app with the someone and record when motion is detected. Other than that “AI” detection bit.

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  2 года назад +1

      @@judyhong1152 In terms of features the obvious ones will be customizable activity zones, quick responses and any form of smart home platform integration. Others that I am unsure will be video quality, any nightvision and any pre-roll footage. It is even more unlikely for people to press a small button on the door vs the usual spot for a doorbell especially if you have a gate. Lastly looking at the price for that and technology trends, just these points on paper it's hard to recommend

    Hi Sir Alex, hope I can ask a quick question please. I would like to get the battery version of this and my apartment has no existing doorbell. So all I would have is this doorbell, my google pixel phone (which is always with me in my apartment) & my home wifi router (nothing else). Is it possible to set the Home app for the following scenario? Someone presses the doorbell and I get a notification alert (with some sort of SOUND) on my phone telling me that someone is ringing my doorbell (so this then would be my "chime" so I know someone is ringing the doorbell without having to stare at my phone). And then now at the same time only when someone presses the doorbell does the video camera turn on (as I don't need any motion surveillance). Would I be able to use the device in this rather very simple way? Thanks so much...
