STO uses Sela (Denise Crosby actress) as a leader of Tal Shiar fairly often as a Villain and short lived Empress, they do a good job with fracturing the romulans both into Tal Shiar Imperials & a new Romulan Republic (similar to TOS romulans) actively in conflict with each other
Yes this series feels like it's pulled everything from an angsty teenage boy's video game.
I wonder if a Scheming Sela might try to use a Genesis II device to recreate or confiscate a New Home World for the Romulan Empire.. even rebuild it from the ashes of the Planet blown away by the Galactic Gamma Ray Burst that destroyed Romulus in the First place. Surely it left behind a Planetary Nebula not unlike the one Kahn detonated the Genesis I device.. its also been teased in the Daystrom Institute .. but what could they want with Picards body.. Yet another Decoy.. or this time is it the Real McCoy?
Great vid, my friend!
I was thinking Sela too, that would be awesome!
This isn't Trek.
The Hierarchy agrees.
Wil Wheaton was also an original cast member.
I hope he pops up too
While it would be nice, thus far I've seen absolutely no foundation for Sela to show up as the Big Bad in the last two episodes. This ranks just below 'It was Armas all along!' and 'It was Redjac all along!' When they started talking about Picard's Imurotic Syndrome being in question, after we saw that Jack inherited it, my first thought was some kind of remnant Borg tech ... but that doesn't mesh with the abilities Jack is displaying.
Sela's story would have been more like Ensign Ro in that it would have to be one of Redemption.. or re-settlement within the Federation.. tho.. her home world might have been an Outpost of the Empire and might still be strictly ruled by a pure Romulan faction. I tend to think her mixed race, or mixed heritage would have got her very poor treatment in any Violent or ruthlessly stable remnant of the Empire.. and she would have to be constantly proving herself.. if she didn't seek out other opportunities.
In Season 3, the Federation and Starfleet conduct medical torture experiments, Jean-Luc and Beverly knowingly discard their life-long principles and commit the horrible crime of conspiracy to murder their prisoner, Beverly disintegrates an incapacitated adversary without bothering to scan for signs of life, and Worf watches as his underling tortures someone.
Are you okay with that?
I have no objection to serialised story telling.
What I have an objection to is series long mystery arcs.
I have no interest whatsoever, I don't care who's been cast, what the sets look like, who's writing it, producing it, directing it, I couldn't care less as the format is the lowest soap opera IQ possible in a serialised story.
Once again Kurtzman's abuse of Trek IP goes down exactly the same route, because they are capable of nothing more, they lack the ability to craft anything that doesn't revolve around 9 cliff-hangers and a payoff, and most of the time they'll use the generic "hero's journey" to achieve that.
What a terrible and disappointing end for such a previously successful, intelligent and high brow franchise, devolved into this mess of copy/paste MCU clone.
Great theory. Actually makes good sense.. lol.. couldn't help but notice you left out Wesley.. but totally forgiveable. I always thought Gene threw in Wesley just to make the rest of the cast and characters uncomfortable.. much like Picard. I'm hoping for a TOS villian though.. in particular Rejak, Red Jack or Jack the Ripper from Wolf in the Fold.. but with Sargon, the Entity from Day of the Dove.. we have many to choose from. Non-Coporeal would naturally look down upon Changelings as Inferior.. and Misty Meat Puppet was not that impressed with Vadic
I always rather like the Vampiric aspects of Rejak.. and his/her devious love of Shear Terror and Theater. It would be rather hard to feed upon a Changeling that is part of the Great Link.. but an isolated or ostracized part of the Great Link.. experiencing PTSD might well serve as a Renfield snack.. until something larger.. and more sweepingly revengefully filling might come along.. like all those Federation Starships .. but then again is might be the Dikironium cloud creature that attacked the Farragut on Tycho IV.
Can you think of another trek villain that was "evil", with shapeshifter powers?
@@DarthPlato Orgainians, Talosians, Salt Monsters, Korob, Slyvia; Kelvans .. those Andromedians sure liked invading the Milky Way.. the Gamma Quadrant were practically next door neighbors.. I always wondered why STNG went back home and rarely ventured Beyond the Farthest Star. Even Gene Roddenberrys Andromedia explored three local Galaxies on a regular basis.. but got all stuck up in Megastructures the size of solar systems.. so pedantic. I guess Nomad and V'ger count as Changelings.. since we couldn't recognize them at first. The Triffids or whatever kind of Flowers infected Spock with Spores on Omicron Ceti III were also kind of in disguise.
I get strong Arrested Development Season 4 vibes from this season, but with a better result. It's clear they were working around availabilities/budget/etc, and that maybe some scenes were written in case they couldn't get Actor X/Location Y for that day, but then they got Actor X/Loc Y for that day so now we have four scenes of "Data and Lore are BOTH in there!" across three episodes. I wonder if the "middle movie" maybe should have taken place entirely on and around Daystrom Base (Vadek takes control of the base instead of the Titan, gives her monologue about her past IN THE LOCATION where it happened, etc). That would cut a lot of the holding-pattern fat of riker's abduction and data's resurrection.
thank you for the great video script doctor i love your input on star trek picard all that watch this hit the like and share this video
The reason why Picard S3 did better than the others is...
1. Bottle episodes - The fewer places where the action could take place, the more the script had to make those locations work within the story.
2. Budget - The bottle episode format is typically used to limit financial outgoings for an episode by using pre-existing sets. Considering they got the whole TNG crew together it's reasonable to assume Secret Hideout had to foot their bills and as a result, limit where the action could take place.
3. Sets - See Budget. With limited funds per episode the reuse of existing sets is a technique more commonly associated with Classic Trek than Secret Hideout.
4. TNG Actors - These actors are from another time when they had the time and ability to explore who their characters were. As a result we know them better than we know Shaw, La Forges daughter and the McGuffin Jack.
Why PS3 is still mediocre NuTrek...
1. The characters are not the characters. Worf is killing people without showing his face. Picard is still dead, and his android replacement seems to be accepting the label of galactic troublemaker instead of peace seeking diplomat. Data... Actually Data comes out of this relatively intact from a superficial viewpoint until you remember Secret Hideout are all about changing characters so they do not reflect their character. In this instance however, they provided a reason for Data's change. Riker becomes a white flag waving surrender monkey and doesn't so much as call a meeting of senior department heads to work the problem of the Titan being stranded in a nebula... the list goes on
2. The characters still don't understand basic hierarchy... and neither do the writers. Shaw gives up command in a heartbeat, perhaps understandably, but then never goes to reclaim it when he's fixed up. Riker doesn't call senior heads meetings when he should and instead retreats to write letters to his wife. The rest of the crew, taking their cues from the senior officers, listlessly roam the ship instead of doing anything remotely useful... Seven has lost her science accumen and been written as a STEM hating ass kicker... lending her the title 'Most likely to have forgotten more than Ensign Kim ever knew'...
3. People are still talking about their emotions instead of addressing the elephants in the room that is the current situation. See also 'dragging out the story'
Could go on, but for a better analysis check out Mollie and the Old Man.
But Grud... The Titan model... Close up it's lighting rig is killing me, and it's latest flyby had so little lighting from it and shining on it that the screen went pitch black as the underside of the saucer came into full non view.
I just wish PS3 had leaned less on the memberberries and using what Trek was in the past... and developed a future for itself. Because this is just SH Trek forming a dry sponge with what we all know and love draped over it like icing.
But this does show SH's folly in not hiring fans or enthusiasts of Trek. PS3 is not as good as people say but it's not as bad as past seasons... So imagine if Secret Hideout were dissolved and a new studio of people who know Trek took over to write new stories... PS3 could have and perhaps should have been better. But the one common problem is... Secret Hideout's Kurtzman hired production staff. At this point the Kurtzmanism's are baked into the live action shows.
Don't think we'll see Sela. I'm getting serious tar monster vibes.
But what about Dr.Pulanski!?
The Actress is still alive and she also played two roles on The Original Star Trek Series.. one of which was from Return to Tomorrow; as Thalassia an Aretian who could possess a human body at will and had telekenetic and telepathic powers.. not sayin that's who's calling Jack to the Red Door.. but there are always 'possibilities'.
I was around in 2004 for the "Save Enterprise" campaign when it was slated for cancellation. We got a 4th season, but the time slot made it even less accessible.
Now here I am, 19 years later, wishing for nothing short of cancellation so Trek can rest for a decade, but more importantly be taken away from the people currently mismanaging it into what could potentially be it's ultimate unsalvageable demise.
I get my Trek from Orville now. Had CBS not denied Seth MacFarlane the offer of creating a new Star Trek series, they and the fans would be in far better shape right now. Instead, please, just let it die.
No Star Trek is better than bad Star Trek.
I miss your in-depth analysis of the series..
I miss them too! Even with the current WGA strike, I haven't had much time to get into them. But I will in the future.
Why does the bridge look like the death star? Must be an awful place to work, who the heck would want to be in star fleet if you end up there?
Oh that's right, this is Star Wars with Star Trek intellectual property.
Picard has been great so far and the pacing in this season is top notch. It feels like it's moving even when literally NOTHING happens.
I'll be glad when the TNG crew retires. I view the TNG fanbase as one of the worst things to ever happen to Star Trek.
I honestly don’t see the appeal of Captain Weird Shit. He’s in Starfleet, Weird Shit is their bread and butter. He’s unresolved trauma from Wolf 359 I think is a bit far fetched, they didn’t really go into too much on it either like he could have lost his family but no he just had survivors guilt. I seem to be in the total minority about Picard, all my favourite RUclipsrs seem to like it. Must be me, I’ve grown to old to like new things.
I hate Star Trek Picard for turning the heroes of Old Trek into murderers and torturers. It is anti-Trek. Don't let anybody gaslight you. There are FOUR lights!!!
I hope this studio never makes any more Trek again. Double pump-action phaser tap it to the head
Do you like Tom Petty?
First it's not the original cast. original cast is TOS. 2nd Denise Crosby is dead
Nice try, but Denise Crosby is *still alive*. I’m certain. Don’t believe me? Just do a search.
@@DonDonP1 I meant the character Tasha
@@johncipolla8335 Oh, right, LOL.
