"Someone told Chet Atkins, "Man, that guitar sure sounds good!" Chet set the guitar down on a chair and asked him, "Ok, how does it sound now?"" Incredible player. Made me think of this quote looking at the guitar lol
I've heard a similar story about Jascha Heifetz; supposedly, someone complimented him on how wonderful his Strad had sounded in that evening's concert, whereupon Heifetz pulled the instrument out of its case, held it up to his ear, and said, "Funny--I don't hear anything!" An excellent point regardless of the actual source.
The crazy thing is that his speech style is identical to his playing. Sort of quiet and halting but pleasant. He looks like it pains him to get the words out.
That’s because he’s thinking how it’s going to sound before he actually plays it I believe. Unlike most players who are playing patterns they have already learned.
Years ago I was taking my family up to Fayetteville AR one weekend to hang out with a group of friends, and my daughter was playing a band called Earth on her Spotify over Bluetooth. I said "man, that really sounds like Bill Frisell." So my daughter looked it up, and then asked me, "how did you know that?" I said, "because it sounds like Bill Frisell!" I had never heard the Earth album before...
I love when stuff like that happens. When you hear a song you know you’ve never heard before but you can hear stuff that defines a certain musician. That’s gold!
I appreciate this was an attempt at comedy, but Frisell looks nothing like Walz. Unless you think all old white guys with receding white hair look the same?
B.B. King said more than once he wished he had written Pledging My Love (Johnny Ace) and Johnny Clyde Copeland, the Texas Twister said more than once he wished he wrote Z.Z. Hill's song titled Down Home Blues. To me, Stardust is perfect. At the end of the world, and the end of everything, every day, there is Hoagy Carmichael's Stardust, the most appropriate and versatile song of love and all that surrounds its expansion around us till the end, that end, that may not even exist, but Stardust, in memory of Jerome Darr, Johnny Smith and Eddie Lang, with great reverence, I believe, here.
I used to think my music wasn't 'liked' because I was using equipment that came standard with the PC or tablet i was using, but that feeling went away after realizing that couldnt possibly be why I'm also ignored when I post anything else too. Except for posts that I make about being ignored on Facebook I'm ignored, but strangers will comment on those. Clearly this must be all paid for by someone and that determines who gets liked and who doesn't get likes, but I don't even get views on my videos that I know about. The only views I see that are counted are from the times i seem to make by watching them. I mean, could it possibly be that since 2009 when I posted my first song, I've had less than 150 views on it? I guess so. I guess it's possible. I guess it's also possible for this video I'm commenting on to get 50k views in a few days time or less. Sure, it's possible. Well, I noticed your guitar has drawings on it. By me noticing that it probably indicates I'm the only real person commenting on your video.
I will never understand the slavish fanboy worship of Frisell. To me he is just awkward and completely unmusical. I can find nothing in this to enjoy or admire
You don't have to like it, and other people don't have to dislike it. It's ok for different people to feel different about music, I don't see the issue.
Awesome! Thank you for playing at my wedding in 1977.
Just sitting here in awe of how he can use the absolute minimum amount of harmony at just the right spots to turn a melody into an arrangement...
The Thelonious Monk of Guitar. Beautiful.
now that would be Sco, imo.

I love how much Bill respects space. Outlines harmony in ingenious and simple ways. Absolutely beautiful playing. Thanks Bill and Fretboard Journal!
He does the best arrangments.
Frisell has the coolest guitars. I wish there was more videos of him talking about them..
Too many people talking about guitars. It’s just a tool.

I have his “Guitar in The Space Age!” album and it’s absolutely fantastic! Both the album cover and the tracks.
that just dropped my shoulders a couple of inches. lovely.
As always difficult to find words to describe his creativity in music.. another wonderful interpretation.. thanks Bill.
Bill rules.
So. Incredible.
Starting to like the shirt 😊

I love how Bill always looks like he’s struggling to get out each note, like he’s only been playing for a couple months. 😂

Absolutely stunned to see Tim Walz make time for this gorgeous performance in his busy schedule

One thing for sure bill does not support the 2025 project

Just the fucking best.
Does anyone know who did the artwork on the tele? Is it in graphite or some form of ink?
It's in the description: Terry Turrell. We have photos of it on this page: www.fretboardjournal.com/video/bill-frisell-hard-rains-gonna-fall-solo/
I wonder what mic / pre amp / interface was used here? Sounds like the mic caught quite a bit of roomsound
