Thank you for posting this. My dad recorded this game on vhs in 87 and was the all star game that made me love playing baseball. So many beautiful memories.
Nor a regular extra inning game with out that stupid ghost runner nonsense. Every time they go to extra innings Orioles broadcaster whines about it going to be here late. What's his name Kevin Brown, not the pitcher, the little guy
Yeah, as of 2022 a tie after nine innings gives way to a home run derby "swing-off" similar to hockey shoot-outs or soccer penalty shoot-outs. Interesting, but at the same time it just doesn't feel right. Same with the ghost runners in extra innings, which kills the possibility of any future regular season perfect games extending into extra innings.
@@travismcdonald6576 I was just going to say that too. Las Vegas will get an All Star game once that new ball park is built for the A's. Tampa Bay never hosted an All-Star game and might not ever, unless they get a new Ball Park
Back when the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum was a great multi purpose sports venue... Not anymore !!! And I would imagine Las Vegas will eventually get the MLB team from Oakland. Nonetheless, a great All Star game in 1987
I will never forget this game. After Raines hit that triple, my dad said he believed that Timmy was the best player in baseball. I think he may have been right at that time.
The double play that got Winfield at the plate was awesome. Ozzie Virgil was a damn good defensive catcher. He could call a good game, too. He did a hell of a job to hold onto the ball with Winfield running into him like that.
@@lon9047 those who were not around to experience it have no clue how good baseball was in the 80s and early 90s. There was no shifts, but you had fielders who could go get it regardless and the catchers had to actually put down signs and they would often call the game themselves instead of looking for a sign from the dugout. I'm sure that was done from time to time, postseason games, etc., but there was some all time great players during that period. I remember watching the Braves on TBS religiously as a kid. I would watch every pitch and not touch the remote until the game ended. MLB on NBC was great during those years, too. With Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola. The 86 World Series games are on Hulu right now on ESPN+. I've been watching those lately.
@@jkckmarcumful Seems like we have a lot of the same baseball experience. Dale Murphy was/is my idol and I never missed a Braves game on the Super station either. That 86 series and the entire postseason in general was great baseball. I miss the game as it was, not what we have today.
Unbelievable American league just don't have the spirit to win they had plenty of opportunities to score but didn't another win for national league 4 in a row now
This was REGGIE JACKSON 's last season and I still don't understand why baseball didn't honor the greatest player in the game for 20 years running. They totally disrespected MR. OCTOBER!
Because Jackson was a notorious asshole to fans and media alike. I have a personal memory of him turning around and chastising a group of kids following him wanting an autograph. He was not liked and should not have expected the league to do him any favors.
@@wilmars9146 I have forgot more about the game of baseball than you have ever known. Jackson was a pompous jerk who nobody liked and when it was time for him to receive his flowers the league was not gonna do him any favors. His own teammates didn’t like him much less his opponents. He got what he deserved.
As a long time A's fan, I'm just here too see the coliseum in it's original glory

We will never see another extra inning All-Star Game 😢

Or an All-Star game in Oakland ever again.

@@05steelersrule08 It ruins all stats too, because in.effect this runnwr came from NOWHERE . At most it must count as point .5 a run.

Love hearing the Voice of God do the intros. Roy Steele was so amazing
Wow, only Kirby Puckett is represented for the twins at the 87 All-Star game! Hardly any tigers are represented either.
Tim Raines was simply awesome in 1987!

I would of chosen Eric Davis
But Raines was pretty good as well
My favorite moment was Lee Smith wearing an Expos helmet.
The Twins with just Puckett on the All-Star team

A 6'6" Dave Winfield coming at you full bore down the third base line has to be a somewhat intimidating sight.
Lifelong Braves fan here and yes it was an amazing play by Virgil. Braves fans didn’t have much to cheer at during this time but this was one of them.

@@lon9047 I loved Dale Murphy, too. I had a Louisville Slugger lamp in my bedroom with his autograph burned into the barrel. I still have it.
That NL line up was stacked
1987 was the year the mets were suppose to repeat as world champs
Ahhh. Nothing better but hearing Mark McGwire’s name on the All-Stars
Imagine how good the national were when Tony Gwynn came to bat for the pitcher
I was at this game. Oddly enough the only player who would autograph a ball for me was Willie McGee. Everyone else told me to shove it
The Twins will win the World Series in 1987.
Why does it seem so many players are booed during the announcing of the lineups?
Great All-Star game
Commentators:
Vin Scully & Joe Garagiola.
Gratitude
The national League beat out American league as the national league had 5 hall of famers and American League 4 hall of famers in starting line up
