Lou Whitaker's at bat is at 44:50 and they mentioned that he forgot his uniform so he had to get a replica Tigers shirt, someone else's Tigers pants, and Twins stockings and his number had to be put on by a marking pencil. Vin Scully referring to this as the sorriest excuse for a big league uniform is pretty funny. And yet the jersey is at the Smithsonian.

Indeed when they did this flu scam and tried to shut down earth due to tyramts, i realized i will never go to another game, as i will not support socialisim. Mlb and Nfl decided to throw cash at that group that decieves ignorant persons.... While pretending to care about rights. No body has any rights under medical martial law. How is this when less people died in 20 than 19 18 or 17 in the USa. How is a. 99.997 petcent survival rate a heath emergency. If i had a 99.997 chance of surviving a surgery id take it.

On another note, The Expos always had great representation in The All-Star Game in the early, and middle 80's, and Tony Gwynn is probably the most underrated player in my lifetime. These great, great baseball players were like Gods to a kid growing up in a small Michigan town....I don't know if the game was ever better than during the 80s...one of the most underrated player was Jose Cruz who played for Houston. People forget the greatness of the ever introverted Eddie Murray in Baltimore. In the early 80s, cable television swept thru my small town thereby allowing me to watch WOR out of New York just in time for the rise of the Mets; TBS for Braves games; and WGN for the Cubbies. From Big East Mondays on ESPN where we could watch those great Big East College basketball games to the beginning of a whole summer of baseball games every single night. Great memories....some of which have a tendency to make my 51 year old tear up! I just can not imagine a better decade to be a teenager than the 80s!

Man there will never be another Nolan Ryan. Stop and think that by this time - most people in MLB thought he was winding down his career. Hence they had him throw out the first pitch with Pete Rose, who incidentally WAS really winding down his career. Nolan already had 4000 strikeouts and had thrown five no-hitters by this time. Well he'd throw TWO more no-hitters and accumulate well over 1000+ MORE strikeouts in EIGHT more seasons - and was already 38!!! Simply incredible. His strikeout totals and 7 no-hitters are records that will NEVER even be approached, let alone broken. Pitchers don't routinely throw complete games anymore.

He finished the year hitting .324 with 35Hrs and 145RBIs. But I think because Murray was the established veteran he got the votes. Although Mattingly won the batting title in 1984, he was still an up an coming player.

2 comments - 1. The white sox uniforms sucked. 2. really miss Sparky Anderson. There doesn't seem to be the really colorful managers in baseball anymore. We need more guys like Sparky, Billy Martin, Tommy Lasorda, even Lou Pinnella, who retired recently. They brought so much entertainment to the game of baseball.

What's up with all the Padres? Yeah, I do know, thank you, that they were the 1984 NL champs, but San Diego has never been a baseball hotbed and a lot of the players they have in this game are aging, fading stars and mercenaries outside of Gwynn.

As for the DH, a senator said this about the country, but I think it would pertain to baseball: created by geniuses but run by idiots. They should let the game be played the way it was meant to be, not the way they think it should be. DH, instant replay, these B.S. rules to make games to go faster for example the ones that is suppose to go into effect this year. If you want the game to go faster, get rid of instant replay.

No I am not in favor of the Designated Hitter, but since we are here let''s go ahead and realign the teams according to geography. No need for an NL and AL designation anymore

Unsure why Nolan Ryan was batting in an American League park. Seems ridiculous to have a pitcher batting with 2 outs when you have a bench full of freaking all stars
