Thanks for keeping the commercials in it. It's like a time machine, takes me back to when I was a baseball loving kid. Especially the "Beef, it's what's for dinner"commercial. 😃⚾
Plus this is when commercials were good unlike the commercials of today. What happened they need to bring back the good writers and fire the current ones.
Every time I go through Manhattan, Montana have to stop for a steak because of those commercials. They still have a sign up with that “It’s what’s for dinner” in that town. Great place.
I remember this game well. I was born and raised in San Diego and this was the first All Star Game in San Diego I was alive for and I wasn’t going to miss it for anything. I was in high school at the time so not old enough to officially enter various ticket lotteries so I sent entries in under the names of several family members and amazingly won the right to buy three sets of tickets. My dad and I took the two best seats and we gave the others to friends. We actually attended both the workout/home run derby the day before and the actual game. The things that really stand out to me were watching Mark McGwire in the home run derby, and the incredible cheer and standing ovation Bip Robert’s got when he was announced, I mean the place really went crazy. Padres fans loved him and thought he got a raw deal and wanted to show how much they appreciated him. But my fondest memory of all is seeing my dad basically turn into a little kid and go crazy with pure joy when they introduced Joe DiMaggio during pre game ceremonies! It was also seriously cool seeing hometown legend Ted Williams throw out the first pitch. Even though this game probably won’t standout to most people I will always cherish these incredible memories of the few days back in 1992 that my dad and I went to the game, the home run derby and fan fest. We made sure to do it right and soak in the full experience. My father is gone now but he is always be with me through these memories.
This All-Star Game in San Diego was very strange indeed because you had five former Padres and four soon to be ex-Padres with 1987 National League Rookie Of The Year catcher Benito Santiago signing with the expansion Florida Marlins as a free-agent, Tony Fernandez signed with the Mets then was traded to the Blue Jays and won a World Series in 1993, then Garry Sheffield was traded to the Marlins for a pitcher named Trevor Hoffman who would become the major's all-time leader in saves then Fred McGriff dealt to the Braves where they would win their third straight N.L. West title in '93. The Padres had that ownership led by TV mogel Tom Werner who produced shows like The Cosby Show and Roseanne littary destroyed the Padres and there were a lot of uncertain for the franchise but the franchise was saved by Larry Lucchino and John Moores in the mid-90's they would win a the National League Pennant in 1998 and got Petco Park to save the franchise.
My name's George Nemitz. Remember when you were younger when a comercial, there was an old lady for Hardee's she looked at a small burger on a plate and she says " Hey, where's the beef?"
Bip Roberts got the biggest applause! Dude was awesome to have on your team. I used to give him his own rookie cards when he came to card shows in San Diego.
I cant believe it's been 31 years since this game. Baseball as a kid in the 80s & 90s, you couldn't beat it! The players,,stadiums, everything was perfect! Also, I truly miss how Baseball went from ABC, to NBC, to CBS, & each one of those networks did an incredible job bringing the game to life!! Now we get stuck with FOX & Joe Buck, I'd give anything to go back to this time!!!
This is the first all star game I ever watched as a kid...I actually taped it and kept rewatching it. I really feel like I’m back in time watching this. Thanks for uploading it.
I think because they started to promote the team by then before they started play I guess. Same thing with merch, because I’ve seen several instances of people wearing Marlins and Rockies gear in 1992 lol
This game was loaded with then current and former Padres: Gwynn, Mcgriff, Sheffield, Fernandez, Santiago, Carter, Smith, Roberts, the Alomar brothers, and Kevin Brown.
Hard to believe Tony Gwynn is not best hitter to ever come out of sd area....RIP to red Sox legend Ted Williams and his great friend Tony Gwynn , Boston fan
In addition to the public address announcers on tape, each player's recording could also include the rally music from his ballpark. Seattle, Minnesota, etc. with their organ music. Philadelphia with its bugle.
50:15 Cal Ripken Jr gets a hit off Tom Glavine, then gets tagged at 2nd by a Tony Gwynn throw to Ozzie Smith... So much greatness involved in that play!!
6:08 "I was shocked just because I'm not that good at hitting home runs in batting practice" This quote is fucking hilarious considering people were paying to see him do batting practice 6 years later.
I think baseball changed when CBS started broadcasting the games in the '90's. Not for the better. It just didn't feel the same. I always thought Jack Buck sucked. I really missed Vin Scully, Garagiola, Tony Kubek, Bob Costas, Bob Uecker, Al Michaels, Cosell. They were better than anything CBS put on.
Faye Vincent had conviction and probably the leadership skills to bring the the players and owners together. I think the MLB problems started when he was booted.
Sé de la historia de la MLB, de sus beisbolistas, y estoy viendo pelota desde 87, 88, y no me acordaba de esto, aunque mi hermano y yo vimos todos los ASG hasta los 2010's. Es un grato recuerdo.
In addition, Atlanta had both organ and bugle rally music. The White Sox and Cubs with the organ, along with the Pirates, who have won and there's noooooooo doubt about it!!
1:15:19-1:15:55.; That song should've been put on a CD/cassette, in my opinion... As cheesy as it may have sounded for a early-1990's rap song, it worked well for me & when it comes to rap music, I'm the whitest guy I know & I'm not ashamed to admit it, either.
I agree! I love some Bip! I would see him at Kobey's Swap Meet in SD every year as a kid. He was selling a ticket package for kids. Andy Benes was always there too!
Blame then-departing Peter Ueberroth. The ESPN and CBS deals beginning in 1990 were made well in advance of the '89 season, and 'Uebie' felt that ESPN's Sunday night game would be baseball's 'showcase'. CBS got what it wanted, the postseason and All-Star games, and 'just enough' regular season action to fit in around golf. Bart Giamatti was too focused on Pete Rose in 89, but Fay Vincent felt he should 'do something' about CBS's schedule. The network eventually agreed to do 16 games each in 1990-1992 ,and 18 in 93. Bart
The Pirates had a real good team in the early 90s. Damm Reds and Braves ended their seasons. I was rooting for the Pirates to win a few world series titles.
This All-star game used recordings of public address announcers from each player's home ballpark. Not all teams were represented that way. It would have been a treat to hear Rex Barney introducing the Orioles. How about Larry Walker being introduced in French and English just like in Montreal?
CBS, NBC, and ABC knew how to present Baseball. They knew how to balance the history of the game with the modern presentation. FOX has NEVER presented the game well and they have been holding the game hostage for over 20 years. They always use Joe Buck, who sounds like he downed a bottle Nyquil before the broadcast, and they worry more about pimping their terrible sitcoms during the game than they do about making the game interesting.
Was the best thing outside of new local ownership to the Seattle Mariners that horrible 1992 Season. Man I miss those days of a young Ken Griffey Jr. and a young me. Time flies and looking back at a more innocent time before loss of friends and family really makes you long for those days…
At 38:00 & 1:14:18 was a really good unique commercial with Rob Dibble, 34:30 Roger Clemens. 7:28 a commercial I remember as a kid age 13 and a good masculinity commercial a young man loved. Wow, Brady Anderson was actually thin before he done got JACKED! Cecil Fielder of the Tigers got an ASG snub this year in spite of leading the league in RBI's at the break.
In this game, the players wear their own team's uniforms, not those ridiculous outfits we see now denoting their league. It wasn't just their team, it was your team too.
Eckersley wasn't going to be "shooting" anyone after striking out Charlton. Bobby Cox should have kept a hitter or two available for this spot. Now with the DH used each year, this won't happen again.
I love how many black superstars MLB had! The first starting 5 were studs! And that’s with Gary Sheffield & Ron Gant on the bench. Now, MLB is full of International players that don’t speak English, Don’t respect the game and act like a bunch of clowns. For example: Ronald Acuna & Fernando Tatis
That Pringles commercial was ubiquitous back then. It all comes rushing back. Thank you for including the commercials!
It's hard to explain but 90s sports all around felt more real
@MANCHESTER UNITED you again? Soccer is a pansy game and it sucks.
@MANCHESTER UNITED You're right, soccer is extremely popular the world around. I don't see why you feel the need to keep selling it?
@MANCHESTER UNITED Then go watch soccer and stfu you pansy ass!
Ignoring the steroids use, yes.
Because you were the appropriate age to feel that way when they were happening

Back then, I knew all but two players at most, Now I watched last year’s All Star Game and only knew two players.
Same. I knew everyone's number and what team they played for.
Taking a look back at the 1992 Mlb all star game in San Diego.
There were quite a few ex-Padres at this game, Joe Carter, Kruk, Ozzie Smith, Roberto Alomar, Sandy Alomar, & Bip Roberts
This Was Before Joe Carter Had His Famous 1993 World Series Walk Off Home Run
@@futuregohan4837 as opposed to 1994 when everybody walked off. And I walked away. Today I just enjoy pre-94 baseball from these archives.

Kirby puckett
Ricardo Lozano that’s right and I just edit it
sadly so
Mike Sharperson too.
Everything was perfect back in 1992. 😢
Now?? Not so much.
Definitely better with the style of play.
Love watching the commercials too. Makes me feel in the moment.
My name's George Nemitz. Remember when you were younger when a comercial, there was an old lady for Hardee's she looked at a small burger on a plate and she says " Hey, where's the beef?"
Thank you for this Gem! Go Padres!
One of my favorite memories of the 90s Padres. The Four Tops.
@@daveatkins3796three of them gone by the trade deadline
@@rjpg Don’t remind me of the Tom Werner fire sale. Although it did eventually give us a player named Trevor Hoffman.
Bip Roberts got the biggest applause! Dude was awesome to have on your team. I used to give him his own rookie cards when he came to card shows in San Diego.
It's weird I was 12 when I watched this game and all the players looked old to me now i'm 43 and guys like Glavine and Maddux look like kids to me....

18:01 Robin Ventura Is Just Happy To Be Here Even Though He Didn't Earn It
Ditto. Same here. Watched it 15 times or more. Cool!
I started taping All-Star games in 1988. When the AL won, I taped 89. They kept winning, so I kept taping. Finally in 94 I taped, but they lost.
Odd to see the Florida Marlins & Colorado Rockies logos on the outfield walls as they didn't start play until '93
Mike Youngblood true
I think because they started to promote the team by then before they started play I guess. Same thing with merch, because I’ve seen several instances of people wearing Marlins and Rockies gear in 1992 lol
1 year after the mega trade, all 4 players are in the game. Alomar, Carter, Fernandez and McGriff!
This game was loaded with then current and former Padres: Gwynn, Mcgriff, Sheffield, Fernandez, Santiago, Carter, Smith, Roberts, the Alomar brothers, and Kevin Brown.
All managed by Bobby Cokcs. What a team!
This is amazing! Thank you so much for posting!

Correct Tony Gwynn was born in Long Beach CA.
This is the one All Star Game I watched over and over since my uncle in all but blood recorded this on VHS. I remember the all of these commercials.
In addition to the public address announcers on tape, each player's recording could also include the rally music from his ballpark. Seattle, Minnesota, etc. with their organ music. Philadelphia with its bugle.
