I was a 12 year old Expos fan when this game happened, had this game taped on VHS and watched it at lot as it felt like somewhat of a coming out party for how good the team had become. That year and the strike still stings, although I guess less so for me deciding to follow the team in Washington and seeing a World Series in 2019, those who understandably gave up on the franchise still feel justifiably bitter to this day. Nostalgia is fun, it's not so much that things were better then than now, but rather just being a kid and everything seeming so much more epic than you ever can as an adult. Watching this intro even years later I still remember some of Costas's words verbatim because I watched the tape so many times back then. Part of it is getting older, but the changes in baseball have made it so the all-star game is just another all-star game, where as pre-interleague play it was the one that really meant something and that can probably never be recaptured. It'd be hard to understand now if you didn't watch baseball in that era. The one thing that's not nostalgic here though is the theme song for the broadcast- nothing wrong with it, per say, but my earliest memories of playoff baseball are the prior years on CBS and NBC was never able to match that epic theme!
My first memory was seeing my beloved Orioles go up 3 games to 1 over Pittsburgh in the 1979 World Series, and then lose it all. I was very little, but I have a clear memory of game seven, listening on the radio with my father as he traveled to his union hall in Baltimore, hearing them lose was my first heartache in my life. I can't get enough of these old All Star Games and World Series Games on here, keep them coming.

I was only 2 years old in '94, but man did I grow up during the best time of baseball. I watch it now and it's nothing compared to what it used to be from the 90s to the early and mid 2000s
So many legendary players in this '94 game, my teenage years watching baseball. Amazing how seriously they concentrate on the game when an all star ment nothing then. No tattoos or clowns, just baseball
This all star game my 1st that i watched when i was 10 years old.... leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because of the strike.... now brings back memories of that season due to the current owners lockout on Jan 31st
This was also literally, the only time that NBC got to broadcast a baseball game in 1994 due to the strike. Had the season been played in full, then NBC's regular season coverage would've began on August 26. They were also in 1994, supposed to cover the League Championship Series as ABC was due to cover not only the Division Series, but also the World Series. Dick Enberg was supposed to be the secondary play-by-play man for NBC/The Baseball Network behind Bob Costas, but after the strike, his other commitments for NBC (such as the NFL and golf) got in the way and Greg Gumbel wound up with the #2 job come 1995.
This was also literally the first baseball game that Bob Costas called on TV or period since Game 5 of the 1989 ALCS (Oakland vs. Toronto at the Skydome) on October 8 of that year.
How beautiful no ads no stupid nets, clean ballpark and uniforms that fit. No gaudy ugly led boards either. It bad the state of the gamebc of the commish changing what never needed changing, baseball is destroying itself by design. Just as the country is beimg ruined from within.
2:24:55 was the moment that just by feet would've been the play of the game. 2:34:30 was the recognition for defense at age 40 in an All Star Game. 2:52:17 after the two best highlights
Alrighty, so nobody gonna say anything about Alfred Hitchcock casually walking right behind home plate as Drabek is pitching to Alomar at the 2:00:44 mark? WT*!!!

Interesting .... in one of the innings Costas mentions that there's 14 members of the 500 homerun club since this game was played... the total members of the 500 home run club has exactly doubled to 28
Bob Costas must of been elated when it was first announced that NBC would be coming back to the baseball broadcasting business after four years away due to its contract with CBS, since baseball is his favorite sport. Unfortunately, it had to be under the aegis of this stupid arrangement called The Baseball Network, which has to be the worst sports broadcasting contract in American TV history. The 1994 All-Star Game was the only baseball game that NBC got to show in 1994 due to the strike. And it got even worse from there. When baseball resumed in 1995, we had to deal with among other things, the asinine practice of the first two rounds of the playoffs being divvied up to viewers by region and played simultaneously. And there was no continuity with when and where the games would air since both NBC and ABC randomly split the responsibilities, all the way through the World Series.
The irony is that they might have lost in the playoffs before winning the Series but because we'll never know we can forever call them the champions of 1994 because they won the one thing that is final, the best regular season record.
Be sure to direct your blame at the owners who tried to extort money from the labor. The players were 100 percent justified in striking. Owners tried to make amends for their failures in 1994 now in 2022
Man I love these old commercials. Puts you even more in the moment. Man I'd kill for just one summer day as a kid in 94
I hear you. Just to think that back then we were all in such a hurry to grow up. Wtf were we thinking?! Lol
