So glad he got to win the six nations in his last game..He will always be known as one of the best of all time,he leaves Irish rugby in a fantastic place.Thank you BOD
Pure Rugby football genius, wears his heart on his sleeve, a brilliant talent & and a credit to Irish sportsmanship on any level Many thanks for the fantastic moments & epic memories BOD!
Best centre I've ever seen & an absolute great of the game - in his early days he ghosted through defences, with competitors flailing in vain attempts to get a hold of any part of him. In later years, it was his guts and determination that was immensely satisfying to watch, though he also never lost that ability to find himself in the right place at the right time and make a decisive impact on a game (even when a good deal of his pace had deserted him). Top quality guys like that just don't come around often, so regardless of whether they're English, Irish, Aussie, Welsh or Kiwi, true Rugby fans know 'em when they see 'em & are grateful to have witnessed the skill, sportsmanship and that little bit of magic that embodies all that is good about the sport of Rugby Union.
Drico got the absolute best from his body and the most it had to give. The way he played throughout his career reflected the growth of the game in Ireland and was certainly the catalyst for a great deal of it. Before professionalism became a lifestyle in Irish Rugby Drico was a kid who would give you whiplash if you tried to lay a finger on him. Ireland had had great players and great teams before, but now we had them and they were turning pro. It took a while longer for professionalism to become a lifestyle in Ireland than in some places. A few penguins may have been psychologically scarred along the way, but no Dwarfs were tossed and noone jumped off the StenaLine. Brian attracted fans and investments and ultimately he is a vital component in bringing Irish rugby into the pro era. As a young captain he struggled for words and so he looked to becoming the best player that he could be , the player that most embodied on the field what it meant to wear the jersey. This was how he got his message across. Drico was selfless and at times reckless with his well being, knocking himself unconscious in tackles and playing on with raging headaches. He was a warrior still living to an old code that he was helping the game move on from. As his speed and his step started to leave him and the cartilage started to either fuse together or find it's self being relocated to some other more needy part of the machine, Drico did the sensible thing and became a defensive specialist. He bulked up and began using his still explosive acceleration to nail guys from the line or shoot up and take an interception. We saw more of his hands, he made so many passes that are sincerely awe inspiring and bewilderingly brilliant. In doing all that he could to become the best that he could be, Drico helped define professionalism in Ireland and along with people like Paul O'Connell and Leo Cullen, Eddie O'Sullivan, Declan Kidney, Anthony Foley and later Michael Cheica and Joe Smidth, they would shape the next generation of Irish players into professional athletes. Guys like Bowe and Kearney, Heaslip, Healey, O'Brien and Zebo ...... All of these guys and many more have felt the confidence of walking onto a field with legends like Drico and O'Connell at their end of the paddock and that confidence has become hereditary, being passed on through the fibers of the green jersey.
truly one of the greatest sportsmen of all time, not just immensely talented but also a genuinely sound person who never let his success go to his head. one of, if not the, best rugby players of the professional era.
At the time of this post I am 48 years of age. Staunch All Black supporter. It is of my opinion that Brian O`Driscoll would be the best centre-ever, within the years that I have followed this game. Should they make a world team from the last 40 years, Brian in my opinion would be the only Northern Hemisphere player in it. Such a talent and leader of men...
When I was in Australia I had the same effect when it came down to talkin to Kiwis and they said the exact thing BOD would walk into the New Zealand team
That's why I love Lions tours as a Welshman I finally get the chance to say I'm supporting a team that has Brian O'Driscoll in it. Best 13 the home unions have ever produced

He was the glue to bind a strong team of new players in his later years, his flair and determination inspired so many of the new generation to pick and go from where he left off
The greatest outside center to have ever played the game... To have achieved what he did, playing a country that hasnt invested as much money into rugby as other countries, is a pretty astonishing feat... Respect from South Africa.
Sharing the excitement from the Jersey Shore, USA! All the best Brian! One more win next week in Paris. My favorite play was when he dove and just got the toe of the opposing player. 100 percent effort!, had a tear in my eye.
Probably the most unrecognised centre in the game. He is, for me, the best centre I have ever seen. Anyone who doesn't at least have him in their top three is deluded. And this is coming from an Englishmen.
Unrecognised globally? I don't know, but when I read comments from southern hemisphere fans not even putting O'Driscoll in their top 5 centres, I really am astonished.
Virtual Because Southern Hemispherians are such snobs about their rugby. They think anyone from the North pales in comparison to their great rugby players.
Frank Bunce, Joe Stanley, Bruce Robertson, Norman Berryman, Tana Umaga, Eroni Clarke, even the young Robbie Fruen would make BOD's day a torrid one. A great player but you don't see NZ comparing their soccer players to brazil. I think context is needed here..
He just makes you so god damn proud to be Irish. The man is an absolute legend. There is no one else out there like him. He sees the game the way no one else does. Can't even put into words I'm gonna miss seeing him on the field in the infamous 13. All I can say is good luck to the person that has to wear that jersey next , they have extremely BIG boots to fill!!!!!
BoD was the most phenomenonal player in Irish rugby history, I am a Munster fan but bloody hell, this guy consistently delivered in every occasion over x years, people remember all the tried and offensive plays but the defense was unreal, a legend of rugby Irish sport
personnaly, i'm french and i don't know if I will support them on sunday because if France wins, England wins the tournament and that is not possible :D
Tchiki Braa Ah ah!! All French think the same (I'm French too). If we lose today, it will be a decent end to BOD and we will not let England win the Tournament
It may take a few decades more to carve in stone, but when the tally of rugby union players is all added up, history will record the greatness of Brian O' Driscoll.
is it too much of a shout to say he is the best player ever to have played rugby union?? i'm glad he got to retire from international rugby on a high even though it meant us losing the 6 nations but a for filling end to the greatest character in the sport!
Christian Simmons He's one of the best, no doubt, but the thing is that rugby has so many different positions and types of players that we can't really tell. O'Driscoll would be in competition with the likes of Tim Horan, Tana Umaga, Martin Johnson, Jonah Lomu, John Eales and Richie Mccaw. How would you go about comparing that set of players? Sorry if I sound condescending, it wasn't my intention, but you see my point I hope :-)
owe i totally agree but in terms of what he's done for he image of the sport, the sport itself and rugby in Ireland (never mind the rest of the world) i thing he stands head and shoulders over the rest, but completely how can you compare BOD with Martin Johnson or Rory Underwood? you can't but I think off the pitch he's been radical for rugby
Christian Simmons Yeah, that's what I meant - you can't really compare O'Driscoll, a skill-based player with Johnson - a "hard graft" type player or Lomu, an athleticism based player (with skill). As for off the pitch, I agree - with Irish rugby especially, his impact has been profound. However, he's not the only guy like that - Mccaw, Wilkinson et al. are just the same.
I'll miss watching Brian O'Drisscoll, except when he was playing England, actually even when he was playing England. Further more I get the impression he is a nice chap. I'm English but I'll not begrudge O'Driscoll or Ireland that six nations. Also, this is a tremendous video without the usual dire choice of music.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Ireland play in the near future, it's just a pity they've no fixtures against New Zealand over the summer. I think it's fair to say the gap between the NH teams and SH is lessening.
My Son just joined a rugby team at aged 12, so he years behind the rest of the kids coaching wise, i told him to listen to his coaching team and watch you tube vids starting with BOD,, both of us sitting here gobs open, what a joy it was to watch this man play,, he had it all in bucket fulls, The best 13 ever and im sorry Johnny but still Irelands greatest ever player.
Irish legend, yes. Awesome player, yes. Great? Probably. But there is no way he is the best of all time. He's not even in that conversation. And the king of union? looooool that actually made me laugh.
if bod had been born a kiwi, no one would ever have heard of conrad smith outside of wellington. Get over your parochial bullshit and accept the facts. O'Driscoll was the greatest centre of all time. He played for a side that was by and large average across the majority of positions and nevertheless managed to dominate the role of an international 13 for over a decade. Not every great player has to be from new zealand. there are quite a few all blacks, who deprived of the luxury of consistently playing in great teams for the entirety of their careers, would be revealed as relatively mediocre individual footballers. Nonu is proving that somewhat in france at the moment.
New Zealand were so scared of BoD that they had to dump him on his head in the Lions tour as they knew he was the biggest threat. While saying that any All Black is mediocre is idiotic, saying Tindall or Contemponi were in BoD's league is as well. For me BoD is the best player to ever grace the game. Whether or not you agree with that specifically, if you don't put him in the conversation then you never played the game and apparently never watched it either. There have been many great players, but for me he's the one who made the most happen, the most often and in the most different ways.
As an Irishman who is a avid rugby man... talent is talent regardless of where there from. But Brian O'Driscoll is just that one of a kind that cannot be replicated. He as a 13 had passes moves that you cant teach. his offloading defence astounding but his ability score impossible sometimes. He is also a man of great character humble, loyal and always willing to put his body on the line for his team. There will never be in Irish rugby a hero like him or a NO 13 like him. I bow my head to your sir. BOD your the man.
Legend, Legend, Legend - What a contributor to the game and the people of his homeland and around the globe. Most certainly up there among all 13s. All the best Brian.....
For anyone who dares to say Conrad Smith, Tana Umaga, Stirling Mortlock, Mike TIndall, Jonathan Davies, Jacques Fourie etc. are better, learn this well. They are all BENEATH this man! Greatest 13 ever! None of these guys can take that away from him! You disagree, that's just TOUGH!
***** the problem with Umaga is highlighted by his spear tackle on BOD in 2005 Lions tour. He was a shit. Moreover the fact he felt it was necessary to take O'Driscoll out of the series shows how much the All Blacks and Umaga feared him
That's because it's the All Blacks that they play for *****! They haven't put on too many man of the match performances, have they? Take them out of the All Blacks side and put them anywhere else and they don't really show their class! They aren't classified as saviors or anything like that, because that honor falls to McCaw! I'm talking about someone who provides inspiration, who was born a leader, and who racked up many man of the match performances and was successful both domestically and internationally! O'Driscoll ticks those boxes!
***** You do make a couple of valid points there, but in fact, the idea that promoting your side of the debate that they play for the All Blacks shows that individually, they wouldn't be able to show that anywhere else. Another thing, BOD just became the most capped player in Test rugby, surpassing George Gregan with 140 caps to his name. Can Nonu and Smith beat that? No, they will not. Another thing, you are forgetting the Six Nations. O'Driscoll is also the leading all time try scores with 26 to his name, yet to be beaten by anyone else. With the great Shane Williams retired, hard to see that happening for a while. O'Driscoll has also won Player of the Year in the tournament 3 times. He has also won the RaboDirect 3 times, the Hcup 3 times, while neither Umaga nor Nonu nor Smith have won anything with the Hurricanes. O'Driscoll has also led WAY more Test matches than Umaga has, and Nonu has never led any, nor has Smith. O'Driscoll has also been shortlisted for IRB player of the year 3 times (in which he should have won in 2009, only to be taken by McCaw, because it's the All Blacks, and he had missed half of the ENTIRE SEASON!).
LEGEND!!! remember how good he was when I was watching him as a kid...10 years or so later he is still playing and is still great. Best centre I've seen in modern times.
BOD is up there for me as one of the best because his reputation goes beyond purely sporting ability. His never say die attitude, his winning mentality, his inspirational leadership, his will to overcome any size deficit, his dedication to the cause all transcend beyond sport and have helped shape the values of those outside of the sporting world. And what a player...
I've seen all the bod tribute videos but this one is the best! Bod is the greatest player to ever play the game no one will ever beat him, it's been a privilege to watch him. Thinking of rugby without him makes me sick he's the Ireland captain not heaslip, eat ur heart out kidney!
Despite all the garbage Stuart Barnes has come out with over the years, his appraisal of O'Driscoll here is brilliant. "They call him God, but I reckon he's a better player than that". Spot on.
Best centre EVER. And a true gentleman of the pitch. What a great ambassador for irish rugby and for Ireland. We should be so proud, and I know that all ulster fans agree Also the cross border documentary was exceptional in his efforts for peace and understanding with fellow irish men. A true irish rugby legend and a sincere gentleman
I'm French and a real patriot. But this saturday I won't be for France. I won't be for Ireland either. I will be for BOD. 'Cause this sport, our sport, owes him that.
I can remember where I was when watching any highlights back of any game I've ever watched BOD play, he is quite simply a genius and an all round legend.
In all fairness, he would've struggled to even make the All Blacks. Remember they had Umaga and then Conrad Smith during that time period. He wouldn't have had as much impact had he played for the All Blacks because he would have struggled to make the team and would've been surrounded by many other players just as good, if not better than him. That's the honest truth.
Umaga and Smith are both undoubtedly greats of the game, but if you think either of them have a diversity of skill, brilliance of technique, understanding of the game or utter force of personality which is greater than O'Driscoll's, then I'm sorry, but you are talking out of your arse :)
George Lewis I agree that neither of them have the diversity of skill or natural brilliance of technique. In terms of understanding the game I'd say he's on par with Smith, they're both exceptional. As for force of personality, Umaga is literally the most influential personality that the All Blacks have had this century. He was a brilliant leader in every way, so I don't think O'driscoll out does him on this point. I also think that both Smith and Umaga were better defenders than O'driscoll. Also, they both, especially Smith, fitted perfectly into their teams and provided the perfect skill set for their combinations with the players around them, so it's hard to argue that O'driscoll would have started ahead of them. Nonetheless, all 3 of them are greats, like you said :)
Without a doubt, Brian O'Driscoll is the greatest Irish sportsman of our time. He is a once in a lifetime player and a living legend; there will never be another Brian O'Driscoll. In BOD we trust
No other player in world rugby makes me quake in my boots when he catches the ball, you never know what he'll do, sure he might let you tackle him sometimes but other times he will leave you absolutely for dead. One match left, I hope it's a good one.
Best I've ever seen play the game.. I know it's difficult to compare with so many different positions on the pitch, but taking into account skills, a rugby brain, determination, courage and leadership, there's been no one more consistent than Brian O'Driscoll for me. He's been the best 13 in the game for about 12+ years now, and to stay at the top, and keep performing on such a world class level and delivering for Ireland, Leinster and the Lions is just incredible. Reminds me a bit of Steve Redgrave, but the rugby equivalent! He seems like a really humble guy too, the kind of guy that if you met in a bar and you didn't know who he was, you wouldn't know about all he'd achieved, because he's so down to earth and modest. There'll never be another one like BOD.
not only magic in offence but solid nd clever in defence!! leads from the front...fearless! great decison maker...great at the breakdown! always delivers on the biggest of occasions! 14 years on and still going strong...one of the greatest players to play the game
absolutely class, some say he has not won enough with Ireland to be considered one of the best ever, they don't say that about the likes of George Best or Giggs and what did they win with their countries?. Take in this masterclass everybody because pundits will use his name for years to come as the standard of a truly great player. His individual stats speak for themselves nevermind the 3 heinekin cups 1 grandslam (plus another championship when we beat France) and numerous pro twelve titles. Brian O Driscoll, you sir are an absolute legend. From a proud Irish and Leinster supporter
As an Welshman i'm not to keen praising English or Irish players. But this man is my idol. He's fucking brilliant

This meme is made from the Future you won't understand it yet.
dutch had a goddamn plan. yeah?
I told you it was a set up Dutch
We need to shoot them all
As and Englishman, I hold him on the same level off respect as Jonny Wilkinson.
As an Irishman, I really admired the way Jonny Wilkinson played. A class act.
I'll miss watching Brian O'Drisscoll, except when he was playing England, actually even when he was playing England. Further more I get the impression he is a nice chap. I'm English but I'll not begrudge O'Driscoll or Ireland that six nations. Also, this is a tremendous video without the usual dire choice of music.
they're all sound lads, ive met most of them twice, they all happily ask you do you want a picture instead of the other way around
I'm really looking forward to seeing Ireland play in the near future, it's just a pity they've no fixtures against New Zealand over the summer. I think it's fair to say the gap between the NH teams and SH is lessening.
good man jack, i love to hear that thats what rugby is all about .great sport no shit,
Ireland were damned lucky this year, there was a meter in it in the end! That England France game.....
We will miss you Brian and thank you for 15 years of blooding good rugby true inspiration to us all
My Son just joined a rugby team at aged 12, so he years behind the rest of the kids coaching wise, i told him to listen to his coaching team and watch you tube vids starting with BOD,, both of us sitting here gobs open, what a joy it was to watch this man play,, he had it all in bucket fulls,
The best 13 ever and im sorry Johnny but still Irelands greatest ever player.
The best of all time the king of union and legend for Ireland
King of union? hahahahahahaha wins over New Zealand-0 RWC tItles-0 RWC semi finals-0 RWC finals-0 legendary crybaby from Ireland-absofuckinlutely
Irish legend, yes. Awesome player, yes. Great? Probably.
But there is no way he is the best of all time. He's not even in that conversation.
And the king of union? looooool that actually made me laugh.
he is named the palyer of all time in rwu are u blind
if bod had been born a kiwi, no one would ever have heard of conrad smith outside of wellington.
There have been many great players, but for me he's the one who made the most happen, the most often and in the most different ways.
just magic,and i'm a munster fan. thank's captin.
This man was one of the greatest rugby players the game has ever seen and yes the greatest Irish rugby player of all time
2021 and im still impressed by how much skill determination and heart that this man has
As an Irishman who is a avid rugby man... talent is talent regardless of where there from.
Proud to be Irish 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪💚💚💚
One of the truest statements i've seen on youtube in years!
Also, watch the Ireland v Italy match. Guess who won Man of The Match? :)
That lions try of 2001 and the commentary to go with it is stuff of legend. Thanks BOD for the pleasure you've given millions...
He was just so fucking good in every situation, a complete player
LEGEND!!! remember how good he was when I was watching him as a kid...10 years or so later he is still playing and is still great.
Brilliant video!sends shivers down ur spine! Why you'd love sport and why you'd love rugby!!! He is a true legend, never to be replaced or forgotten!
This video isn't finished yet....
I've seen all the bod tribute videos but this one is the best! Bod is the greatest player to ever play the game no one will ever beat him, it's been a privilege to watch him. Thinking of rugby without him makes me sick he's the Ireland captain not heaslip, eat ur heart out kidney!
BOD your inspired me to play rugby you are my hero
Love you BOD
Same ladd :-)
sensational tribute of the the greatest player.....congrats
Despite all the garbage Stuart Barnes has come out with over the years, his appraisal of O'Driscoll here is brilliant. "They call him God, but I reckon he's a better player than that". Spot on.
It's Bod not god xx
And he was jackkifed
Best centre EVER. And a true gentleman of the pitch. What a great ambassador for irish rugby and for Ireland. We should be so proud, and I know that all ulster fans agree
Also the cross border documentary was exceptional in his efforts for peace and understanding with fellow irish men. A true irish rugby legend and a sincere gentleman
Magnificent Brian O Driscoll!!!💚
He's right up there with the greatest of all time from any country.
Best player I've ever seen - and would be recognised as such by the world at large had he been an all black
He wouldn't have made the All Blacks...........they don't like crybabies.
Michael Beast You're the only delusional one here bud.
Brian we love you ,you are the best player of all time.
I'm french but i love your game and i love rugby.
GOODBY BRIAN AND THANKS BOD
Brian, O'Driscoll is such a total ledge, he plays ruggers, drives a Lexus and earns a load of wedge, Dricoooooo.
briiliant video true tribute to the greatest of the greats
They should have a movie based on him like the blind side
I know little about rugby, and i dont know any player but this guy.
This is the greatest sports performance i have ever seen.
I love o Driscoll and he is one of the best players in history
Without a doubt, Brian O'Driscoll is the greatest Irish sportsman of our time. He is a once in a lifetime player and a living legend; there will never be another Brian O'Driscoll.
In BOD we trust
I am french, and I must admit, BOD is one of the best player of all time. Well done Mr. O'Driscoll !
These goddamn O'Driscolls
in fecking tears looking at that, no matter whatever Provence you support Brian On Driscoll is a legend
Damn O'Driscolls (this is just a game reference, i am sure he is a good guy)
red dead redemption 2 will get the goty
Living Legend! Incomparable 13! Only bad thing about him is he can play forever...
Cheers from Georgia
He was a great striker. Always in the right place at the right time. A real FOX IN THE BOX. yes
not only magic in offence but solid nd clever in defence!! leads from the front...fearless! great decison maker...great at the breakdown! always delivers on the biggest of occasions! 14 years on and still going strong...one of the greatest players to play the game
Peter stringer, Brian o'driscoll,Gordon D'Arcy, o'gara, ferris, woods, hayes, and soon Pauly himself.
IRELAND MISSES YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
don't miss o'gara
Dont see why you would make a stupid comment like that. Must be a Leinster supporter to come up with some shite like that
No I think he is right, the others brought flair to the game!
+shane kennedy haha class
lol and out of those only 1 would make the ABs
absolutely class, some say he has not won enough with Ireland to be considered one of the best ever, they don't say that about the likes of George Best or Giggs and what did they win with their countries?.
One of the best i had to see playing. Glad he's not English ;) Greetings from France
Brian 'Simply the Best' O Driscoll.Greatr Video!!!

BOD > GOD
So grateful we are to get another season from him. I really hope it is one to remember and he gets the send off he deserves
Gawd Damn O'Driscoll
Records aren't what make him a player great, it's his talent heart and his never give up attitude.
