Best BOD compilation yet. He put his BODy on the line so many times and conducted himself with grace and great humility. One in a million....or 3.5 million Best centre ever in the modern game
Best centre 13 to EVER play rugby. One could argue Conrad Smith but BOD was just magic. Lets not even talk about his defence, playmaker skills! A joy to watch
It wasn't BOD's ability to score tries that made him the greatest, it was to create them for others, defensive genius, always making the right decisions, reading the game, try saving tackles, an extra no 7 at the breakdown, etc.
Now this is the comment I wanted to read. Perfect comment!👌 Most of the time running a perfect line at the perfect time with the right speed, and being able to read ahead and imagine how the play will open up and where players might run in that 1-2 seconds before he makes a line break is impossible for the majority of rugby players. Being able to scoop a ball off the ground at running speed with one hand is impossible for most rugby players. These things don't look amazing or even hard but I assure you 99% of rugby players can't do them right. Most everything he does doesn't look spectacular, but the ability to read a game to get in those situations and to actually do them is very rare. When you want to understand just how good Brian was, the only true way was to watch the same team play without him in the squad. It is staggering just how much he contributes in every facet of the game and in areas where it wouldn't even be his responsibility or job. Without question his greatest ability was defending and tackling, and his ability to see a threat happening long before anyone else on the pitch and stop it or to reposition himself to deter the opposition from continuing with the play. His ability in the tackle meant he was easily able to bring down far far bigger players when others would just bounce off like sized players. His understanding of body movement and kinetics meant that no matter what speed or size of a player was attacking him one on one, meant that he very very rarely missed a tackle. Once again if you want to see how special Brian was, try find full matches of identical teams playing without Brian and then watch one of the same team playing with Brian. You will be blown away at how much he improved every area and facet of that same team.
This is a great video that really highlights BOD's tryscoring prowess but what makes Drico the best in my eyes is the rest of his game - his reading of the pitch, the tries he sets up, the breaks he makes that changes a game, his tackling, his determination Prime example: Ireland Vs England 2009 - O'Driscoll takes at least 3 heavy late tackles, puts in more than that and when his team needs a try to break up the attrition - BOOM! Who scores? The greatest centre of all time scores.
What's worth mentioning is most of his trys were scored in the biggest games against the best opposition. he didn't rack up trys against bad teams. he did it against the best... Something people don't realise and the mark of a true leader and legend of the game.
Hey, mate, if you think that a player can single handedly win a world cup you must have learned rugby from a playstation game. Being a good player individually and the results of your team are not dependent on each other. How many World cups dis Tana Umaga win? or Lomu etc etc how many all time incredible all blacks failed to win a world cup or dare i say choked on the big stage. O'Driscoll's legacy has nothing to do with the results of the teams he played in. So grow up.

Best Outside center of all time without any doubt. May have lost a yard or two of pace in the end but to adapt your game and become a defensive magician among many other attributes made this man pure genius. In BOD the Irish trusted

I'll also imitate sonny bill williams with his defence Just imagine how great of an all round centre you'll be? That's a centre's dream to be like a Sonny Bill Williams and a Brian O'Driscoll
Nearly 10 years later I still gasp at how he never won world player of the year in 2009. As good a player as Richie McCaw was he didn't deserve wpoty over O'Driscoll. No one was as good or reached the individual highlights he Brian did that year. And the absolute consistency was mind-blowing. All year, he not only didn't have a single poor game, but in every game he played he was the deciding factor. All respect to McCaw he was a wonderful player and deserves one of his wins, and if Brian wasn't around he deserved the two in my opinion. But no one was on the level Brian was in 2009, and it still disgusts me how he didn't get awarded it. Because he was so much better than anyone else that year, it had to be fixed. And we all know there is always massive favouritism towards southern hemisphere players in these situations.
O'Driscoll's ability to constantly win turnovers at the ruck, drop kick, grubber, chip kick, create chances for others with brilliantly timed passes off either hand, the way he read the game in attack and defence, his ability to cut people in half with tackles, how he evolved his game from a pacy centre to a ball-playing 13 as he got older-there are so many things that make O'Driscoll the best centre I've ever seen play the game. The crazy thing about this video is that, even at 19 minutes long, it doesn't do justice to O'Driscoll's full ability as a player. He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of player.
Jeez he was so good when he was young. Fast feet, great hands and swerve. That Lions tour Billy Whizz and him linking and skinning the Aussie backline! Genius!

And don't forget Sella!

Thanks for pointing that out. Believe it or not, but I do know how to spell. You see, I was trying a play on words, as in he was the center around which the team revolved, or center as in the spotlight. Anyway, a smart play on words goes over people's heads sometimes
Team achievements don't indicate the greatness of an individual (unless maybe that individual is the captain of said team), they indicate the greatness of the team.
paul lanthier I don't denigrate anyone's personal choices usually, but please! Nonu is a great but I can name probably 10 better centres than him in the game. Just a few, BOD, Danie Gerber, Phillipe Sella, Horan, Frank Bunce, Conrad Smith, and the man many greats such as Colin Meads, Gareth Edwards, Phil Bennett, many AB's, and BILL MClaren rate as the most complete player in history.. Mike Gibson..
I like 10 DC 11 Campo 12 Timmy Horan and 13 BOD 14 Habana 15 Latham. Would be the jinkiest line running turn on a dime backline you could ask for. Plenty of points.
Danie Gerber and Philippe Sella standout centres i've seen. BOD was very good but besides the two i've mentioned there have been others better than him.
@@like2surf I've never heard outside of Ireland BOD is universally renowned as the best centre of all time. All the best 15 sides picked Sella is in everyone. I'm not saying BOD wasn't a great player, i definitely wouldn't say he's the best of all time. Gerber and Sella are the best i've seen.
@@like2surf i did, first couple had Sella and Horan. It's impossible to an all time team anyway, it's hard enough picking one from your country. I'll agree he's the best centre Ireland's produced and he'd make your all time 15, i wont agree he's the all time best, far from it.
It was a privilege to witness the illustrious career of BOD. A once in a generation talent.

Thanks for pointing that out. Believe it or not, but I do know how to spell. You see, I was trying a play on words, as in he was the center around which the team revolved, or center as in the spotlight. Anyway, a smart play on words goes over people's heads sometimes
I was was the best in in the world Rugby08 ??? Best rugby gave ever !
The best player to ever play in three wc quarter-finals and three loosing lions tours.
What a irrelevant comment..So you have to win the WC to be a great player.....I guess lomu wasn't good either seeing as he didn't win it either..smh
Team achievements don't indicate the greatness of an individual (unless maybe that individual is the captain of said team), they indicate the greatness of the team.
hahaha .. ridick
Corrie De Beer *lol*
TheHotrod017 unlike BOD, *Jonah was the Jordon to Rugby, he already WON* in the 95 RWC before winning the WC.
Nonu 12 /BOD 13 probable best combination of centers ever.
paul lanthier I don't denigrate anyone's personal choices usually, but please!
Nonu and umaga would run over any mid field pairing
I like 10 DC 11 Campo 12 Timmy Horan and 13 BOD 14 Habana 15 Latham.
Would be the jinkiest line running turn on a dime backline you could ask for. Plenty of points.
bod, the man...
Danie Gerber and Philippe Sella standout centres i've seen. BOD was very good but besides the two i've mentioned there have been others better than him.
Everyone has an opinion, but he's already universally renowned as the best centre of all time.
@@rus65 Just use google and "all time rugby XV", the vast majority have BOD at 13.
@@like2surf i did, first couple had Sella and Horan. It's impossible to an all time team anyway, it's hard enough picking one from your country. I'll agree he's the best centre Ireland's produced and he'd make your all time 15, i wont agree he's the all time best, far from it.
@@rus65 Then you're an idiot
Don’t forget his brilliant Leinster career - ruclips.net/video/rSgHc7hlA7Y/видео.html
"The Boru"
Good wasn't he
He was a great player no doubt, but no way would he top Gareth Edwards as GOAT. I am a Scot by the way.
Wheres all the tries against the blacks
its irish getting all tries call it irish wolfhounds
Danie Gerber a good player but he didnt possess the skill set that O Driscoll did.
Agree to disagree :-) O' Driscoll was brilliant though
Whinging bastard! But. The Prince of centres. Grudging respect from New Zealand.
I'm Irish an he annoyed me at times too but man he was an absolute legend... respect to Conrad Smith etc but O'Driscoll was in a league of his own...
Danie Gerber, who...lol.
Greatest are people deluded ? So many better centres .Scott Gibbs would of had him for breakfast
Tim Horan , Bledwyn Williams the Prince of Centres were much better.
