  • Do you know how to use your Diskus inhaler? Studies show only 1/3 of patients are using their inhalers correctly, 1/3 are performing adequately but not correct and 1/3 are using their inhalers incorrectly.
This video will teach you how to properly use a Diskus inhaler. A Diskus inhaler is a flat, round device that is used to deliver asthma medicines in powder form. It has a dose counter window so you can see how many doses are left.

Thank you for the demo. I thought "quick breath" meant a sudden sucking in of air and then holding for 10 seconds. I can't inhale very much quickly, so I probably didn't get much of my first dose. You show what I would consider a "deep breath" of "full breath."

I sort of figured it out, but was doing two things wrong.
    1. wasn't keeping it level. Didn't always have it down, but did sometimes. Just had it any old way.
    2. Wasn't holding my breath for ten seconds.
Now I can do it all right.

Most inhalers (like Albuterol/rescue inhalers) are much easier to use...you push a plunger down, hear the medicine come out, and the counter clicks. With this discus, you're never really sure if you're getting a dose. I don't like the design, not for the expensive costs.

@@shakkazbra4984 I dont know wether it might be true for you, but after 4 years taking asthma sprayers I was diagnosed with silent reflux. I never had real asthma, it was acid that shoot in my throat and caused everything to tighten up to prevent the acid from entering my mouth. Know I changed my diet and drank baking soda to fight the acid, I almost got rid of all the sprayers. Maybe you might be suffering from reflux also.

I HATE not having a plunger/hearing the medicine dispense (like on a regular rescue inhaler). I never know if I'm getting anything. Why they designed it to where it's unmetered doses is beyond me. They could have even put the dry powder in front of a gas charge (even if it does nothing for the medicine) just so that the user is ensured of the dose. Very poor design for such an expensive medicine.
