Fun fact- that Food Fighters playset was going to be called Fort Fridge. Mattel filed a trademark for that name in the late 80s
Fort fridge is an awesome name 🤩
Every playset needs either a trap door, jail cel or elevator. Or a combination of those.
No lies detected
Also, something with slime.
I always wanted the Mutants Lair from Thundercats, with the huge evil bat gargoyle entrance.
That skeleton lair sculpting was sick!! Awesome video Ed
I know right 😍💀⚡️
That would've been sick. I had all the skeletons themselves, and the details on them were great; I can only imagine what the interior looked like.
The sculpting on that Skeleton lair is outright amazing! It should be a crime that it was never produced.
It does really look like a work of art 🤓
it wouldn't surprise me if someone hasn't 3D printed one just to put next to castle grayskull.
That would've been sick. I had all the skeletons themselves, and the details on them were great; I can only imagine what the interior looked like.
@@kevlarvest7375 i don't know if i had all of them, but i picked up what i could from odd lots a long, long time ago. i should still have them still on the card somewhere. i never knew what they were, i just thought they were cool looking... and cheap!
@@manlymcstud8588 Cool looking, yes, but at the time they weren't as cheap... I think that's why I didn't bother getting any of the heroes.
That Bill and Ted playset 👀 Had no idea!! Great video brother
Oh yes! 🤩
Wow those are some cool playsets that never got produced! Thanks for covering such an awesome topic!
Thanks buddy 🤓
That Bill and Ted playset looks great! I actually built my own Ted's Garage set out of books and construction paper back when the line was new so that my dudes could rock out. The phone booth toy in that series is a massively underrated beauty from a line that really brought hours of fun to a kid like me. I remember wiring their awesome sound gimmick up to my Game Boy and having the Wyld Stallyns jam old-school Tetris beats. Great video, Ed!
Game boy connection 😱 awesome
I have a love hate relationship with unproduced stuff. I love how they look and hate I can't get them lol. Currently working on a custom of a 1995 unproduced gi joe set which thankfully was only going to be a repaint of 2 vehicles and 2 figures that were released . Great video
Awesome which set is that? 🤓
Those figures were so dope, but just like MOTU and Transformers I was told you can only collect one. Star wars was done after GI Joe. It was the early 80s. Good times tho. The stores were awesome!
I wanna go back to those stores man! 🥲
I'd find a spot for that Bill and Teds playset, in my collection.
It would look great for multiple toylines even 🤩
Another great episode loved all the puns! As a big Bucky O'Hare fan I want a Righteous Indignation, but I'm sure it would be bonkers expensive to find in good condition nowadays. I hope to make a custom one some day. The Skeleton Warriors playset looked awesome! I especially love the woman is in full chainmail presenting it lol.
Yeah the skeleton set looks creepy 🤩
I loved Tigersharks, wish there was a DVD release. Would also have loved a Silverhawks playset. Still have all mine.
Awesome i hardly see those toys 🤓
It wouldn't shock me if some day NECA gets Bucky Ohare (thought they did or someone did already), and come out with a playset like the ship, maybe even exactly like it.
Literally ANYONE but NECA....NECA just makes trash that breaks in the package just by looking at it wrong.
Some great mentions on this. The Bucky ships and bill and Ted set oh my days!! Really enjoyed this video 👍👍
Thanks buddy 🤓 excellent!
The Skeleton Warriors playset looks great. Would have easily fit in with He-Man or even Spawn figures.
Yes! & spawn had some creepy playsets as well 🤓
God I'd have loved the Righteous Indignation! Crazy we got the Primate Avenger for Captain Simian but not the Righteous Indignation. Skeleton Warrior Skull Fortress would be amazing too.
Indeed 💀🤓🤘
I had all the Bill & Ted figures! AND the phone booth! Still have Bill, Ted and the Grim Reaper. I think I might still have Rufus too but lost everyone else. And the phone booth. 😢
The phone booth was awesome 🤩
thank you for the video! I didnt know they made Clash of Titans toys, well something new to collect :) I still have the donut general in my toybox upstairs ;)
They’re i guess similar to the star wars toys i would love to add the death character he looks awesome and the kraken off course 🤩🤩🤩
Silverhawks!
Dam that Skeleton Warriors playset could of fitted in with just about any other toy line!
Indeed 🤩
Great video as usual. This is the best series I can find on internet. Thanks Ed.
Thanks 🤓
Worth a "Like" for the Face the Music/Bogus Journey line alone! ...cool playsets, too
I should have done it in a behind the music voice 🤣
The Food Fighters and Bill & Ted’s are my favorite, they would’ve been so cool if they had been released
Food fighters just needed more releases 🤣
As usual, reaching the excellence Ed! 🎆
This fridge 🌭🍔🥫🧃 is full of imagination 🌈
I wish to find Clash of Titans🗡️🦂 figures. What a great classic movie🎥
Thanks buddy 🤓👌 yes! Harry houssens’ stop motion 🤩
I use to live near Cincinnati where Kenner use to be located. So many people have rare toys their, yard sales are treasure throves
Such a beautiful series, just fantastic. Definitely one of my favorite RUclips shows.
The Slayer reference made me smile ;)
Slayeeeur 🤘⚡️⚡️⚡️
Excellent research as always Ed! I love the skeleton warriors line I have the complete set new in box including vehicles and would love to have owned a play set too.
There’s a whole second wave of figures as well 🤓
I was aware of Hawkhaven and that is definitely one of the top place else I would’ve loved to of had as a kid had they made it!
I wonder if it would have been as big as grayskull 🤓
@@EdsRetroGeekOut knowing the 80’s, very likely. Given the size of the Maraj......
I miss playsets. Micromachines (i believe it was but could be wrong) were going to do a really sweet looking lv427 for their aliens line. And palisades did do one which i highly reccomend looking into if you never saw it.
Yeah i think it’s covered in toy history #4 🤓
This is a really great and unique video. Thanks so much. Are you going to do a TMNT unproduced vehicles and playsets? I always loved Food Fighters but never got them as a kid and didn't realize that they were so big until I got more into the toy community.
Oh yeah they have a couple been digging for some more info tmnt is what really interests me ☺️
i still remember, my Mom found me The Thundercats Lair at K-Mart for $0.99 back a few months after it had came out. why was it 99 cents? it had been "Opened and was missing parts" come to find out after she bought it, the "Missing Parts"? one Battery cover!
she called the number on the box and told them it was missing the Battery cover, and they sent it to us for free!
so i got ONE GREAT Playset, and she didn't have to pay hardly *ANYTHING* For it!!
Love the video! There’s a whole lot of great sets that were never made!
Thanks 🤓
Great episode, and again, you provided me wth information I had no clue about...thank you! 😊
Thanks for watching 🤓
that silverhawks playset would have been beautiful as much as the skeleton warrior's playset would be terrifying.
Yeah the skeleton warriors one would have been kinda creepy i actually doubt that version would have made it onto store shelves it looked kinda evil 😅
@@EdsRetroGeekOut it probably wouldn't have lasted on shelves, lol.
Might have gotten banned 😅
@@EdsRetroGeekOut it might have! probably would have, especially around that time. if we got it, no doubt they would have softened it up so it passed the karen test.
Another great video!! Some of these would’ve been awesome!
Yes 🤘🤩
Fantastic video Ed! Great researching!
Thanks buddy 🤓🤘
I just love these video's thanks for the great episode again!
Thanks buddy 🤓👌
How to watch Ed’s Retro Geek channel: Just like my few favorite channels, I click to watch the video and immediately hit the like button. 😊 As always keep up the great work!
👍🤩 thumbs up
Hawkhaven would be sooo great!!! Geiler Typ!
The fridge has a couple of purple rockets lol.
Mattel always gave exciting descriptions in their toycatalogs i think playmates did the best job tough and hasbro as well
Toilet wars the bath toys for ur toilet instead. But really didnt know Food Wars was real honestly thought Robot Chicken made it up
Another amazing episode!
Thanks buddy 🤓
@@EdsRetroGeekOut My pleasure!
Love these Toy History vids
Thank you 🤓
I'd actually love going into just a toy store period rt now. My kids love the toy isles, someone should get a real chain going again. I get the online shopping tho. But real toy stores?
Killing it with these vids
Thanks 🤓🤘
I always thought it was weird Bucky O Hare came out with the toad croaker and the double bubble, and the main ship that was in EVERY episode, the righteous indignation, was never made.
Makes sense to save the bigger more expensive vehicle for wave 2 just a bummer the line didn't make it that far.
@@LlanoRiverBlue Well I mean Grayskull was part of the launch. Back then it made sense to have a playset wave 1, so you had an environment to populate with figures. As cool as the toad croaker and double bubble are, take the combined cost of those, and make the indignation instead, it makes more sense to a kid watching the cartoon. Then if it's successful do secondary vehicles like the croaker and bubble.
We just needed wave 2 the figures and vehicles were looking good 🤓
Gotta love me some Bucky O'Hare
Subscribed! Big ups for your Kentucky shirt!
Thanks 🤓🤘
That's a shame about the Bill and Ted playsets, that would've been cool to be able to swap them around
Oh yes! I wonder if it got reused for something else 🤔
I love it, I also have my humble collection
Great video. It seems, through the 80s, the only two boys toylines that populated almost the entire span of the 80s were GI Joe and Transformers. I wonder why more companies didn't embrace the GI Joe body type. Kenner stayed with their 5POA in their toylines, even after Star Wars left the scene. Gimmicks also limited playability and articulation, which might have also affected sales. Star Wars, Adventure People, GI Joe ARAH, Mego, Micronauts, Ertyl, et al created a 3¾ universe of diverse action figures, vehicles, and playsets, with a lot of cross compatibility. Imaginext has that right now. Hasbro should have embraced the scale, removable weapons, playsets, and vehicles instead of the slightly smaller kid scale they have right now. Kids like to cross pollinate. The Dark Knight fighting the Dark Lord of the Sith. Batman would need Beskar armor, and the Dark Saber.
I loved Skeleton Warriors. My brother and I had them and I guess we were in the minority it seems.
Keep up the awesome work with these videos 🤟🏽
Thanks 🤓
Love the Hive
Something tells me, with Super 7 holding the TC and SH rights atm, first we'll see that SH ship (can't find the name but you know what I mean) and maybe down the line a Cat's Lair and a Hawwk Haven ... and to be honest? If that Hawk Haven isn't designed to be wall mounted, they can keep it! 😁
Could be cool 🤩
really great video ed 👍
Thanks for watching 🤓
Fantastic video dude 😊
Thanks 🤓
That NARC shirt 🥵
He’s kind of a big deal in kentucky 😏
Someone can make some money if they do a good job creating those playsets from those blueprints
There is something aesthetically ugly, but at the same time pleasing with those cardboard style play-sets. Great stuff.
Crazy to think with the short lived uk DR who star wars sized action figure line from a few years ago they made 4 of those all based off stand alone episodes.
@@Acidonia150reborn Sounds interesting! I have to Google those! Thanks.
I like the way they worked with just panels 🤓
👊 thx a lot 💣👍
Almost 30K 🎂🎉
Very very interesting!
Thanks 🤓
Nice segues!
Thanks 🤓
Wow, The Baron's lair looks like adult Castle Grayskull
It does 🤣👌
It’s a shame you’ll probably never see this comment, because a co-worker of mine use to work at Hasbro from 89-09 and helped design many toys. Plus he has an interesting insight on the industry (specifically Hasbro).
He would love to sit down and talk about his time there!
That would be awesome to talk to him! 🤓
Aside from the Technodron which you already know, maybe the R2D2 Star Wars Playset I guess
R2D2 playset i gotta check that out 🤩
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Hahahaha aint that right? I hope you do for those of us that aren’t lucky enough to back in the day
Cool Video again. Nice.
Thanks buddy 🤓
I own the Bill and Ted's figures... B&t. Plus ghengis Kahn
Awesome 🤓🤘
Hello from México
Thanks for watching 🤓👌
I spy Kentucky on the shirt ! That’s my home state! What’s the shirt from ?
It’s from not another retro channel 🤓 he does youtube as well
Few toy lines I expected to see here, Pirates of the Dark Water how did they not have a playset ship in the works, and another Fox's Peter Pan another one that could of had Hooks ship playset.
Pirates of dark water i saw a ship for don’t know it it got released 🤔🤔🤔
I had it...the wraith I think its called
@@shaggymcgoose1970 Reused for Hasbro's Mortal Kombat line.
Did Kenner ever have any other playset in the works to rival Boulder Hill before the line was cancelled?
Perhaps 🤔 i’ll have to look into it last i think was those laser incorperated mask figs
How about mini-playsets?
I covered a couple in the first video 🤓⚡️
I'd love to know what the story is behind why the Inhumanoid Magnokor and Mutore prototypes were changed. I kind of like the dept. store catalog designs more than the final product.
🤔 very interesting i shall have a look!
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Hey Ed, get back to me or put the info in a video. I would kill to have the originals, but that's not going to happen. Info would be nice.
If i find stuff i’ll feature it in a video inhumanoids is a line i’m actively looking for 🤓⚡️
Thanks for doing ff man
Thanks for watching 🤓
The skeleton warriors playset would have been cherry.
Oh yes 💀💀💀😜
Hi Ed. Thanks for the great vintage toys videos.
Do u know there is also an unproduced monstar normal mode action figure from the silver hawks line. I actually have a photo of it. And do u know why is there an ultra sonic quicksilver action figure but this character didn’t appear in the cartoon series. Thanks!
What bout Egons lab from the Real Ghostbusters line that never got released?
Check the first toy history video :)
Do you still have the source of where you got the scanned page that includes the finalized Baron Dark Lair? I've seen the video from Toy Fair before, but I can't find any scans of the ad page shown in the video :(
Yeah i have the tomart magazine it got featured in, they probably took a picture from the exact same booth you see in the video. So it’s not a finalized version 🤓
👏
Power Rangers Lord Zedd Playset Dome of Doom
🤩 oh yes!
SLAAAAAYEEEEEEEER
Check out the cover art on slayer's live undead it has skelethon warriors written al over it =)
Slayeuuuuuuuur 🤘🤘🤘🤘⚡️⚡️⚡️😁💀💀💀
When are you ever going to cover the unreleased Jim Lee teenage mutant Ninja turtles Leonardo
I could 🤓
How high were the execs that came up with Food Fighters.
Not as much as when they allowed the oozenator watergun to shoot clear white ooze 🤣🤣
@@EdsRetroGeekOut The #metoo of toys...
Clash of the titans was Mattel, not Kenner...
I totally messed that up 🤣 i had written it down, but probably cuz they look that 3,75 scale i went kenner.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut :) no problem thank you for your reply. There also was the Visionaries mountain that never got produced, the Darkseid fortress from Super Powers and the infamous Egon's lab from Real Ghostbusters. Ciao!
I’ve featured the ghostbuster one in toy history 1 and the 2 others you mention are in the toy history 4 video ;). Thanks so much for watching i try to catch as much errors as i can but some always slip through 😂 in this one i was saying street sharks the whole time when talking about tigersharks so glad I caught that during taping
I always wanted a US Flag, but they are so expensive and where would I put it?
Kenner's Clash of the Titans Lair reminds me of Palitoy's 'chipboard' Death Star Playset, that was a Europe/Africa exclusive - instead of copying Kenner's 4 story plastic Deathstar:
ruclips.net/video/mSIK63NzEIY/видео.html
Yes!!! 🤩
*Mattel Clash of the Titans lol
Hay, hay hay... Hold on. You need to mention 1 more, ok. Look, I've bin into toys a very long time and... Their is 1 toy set I have never seen for Airraiders. Where is that mountain play set, I seen a picture of it.. No one has one, did it come out? How do I get one if it did? My collection is incomplete with out it. Can someone help me get 1 please.. I love my toys.
The air raider one is on my list for the next episode and i covered the visionairies one in toy history #4 🤓
@@EdsRetroGeekOutVisioaries playset video I can't find it, I have to see that. Good videos I can't wait to see the Air Raider 1 next
Sorry it was in the second one : ruclips.net/video/CWsdvrhgoe8/видео.html
The fort fridge lives today by bamm toys and matt wysocki
I saw that sick how close they got to the promo pictures 🤩 i’d buy one
I think the Food Fighters are more disturbing than any other toy of the era.
Really 😅 whats so weird about them?
@@EdsRetroGeekOut haha I just find the faces unsettling.
nice first comment
great vids
Thanks 🤓 what playset are you still after?
Those don't look like eggplants
🤣🤣🤣
What is your favorite play set and also have you heard of Resident Evil if so what is your favorite Resident Evil game also do you have Resident Evil action figures pretty cool surviving horror game I don't really have a favorite playset I love them all also it will be awesome crossover action figures tmnt versus skeleton Warriors
Teenage skeleton turtle warriors 🤩
Your stretch Armstrong behind you is sitting way too relaxed and needs to put on pants.
🤣🤣🤣
Hope i live in the 80s and the 90s😔
It was good the 90’s 🤓
