Ah..I was going to post about having a GI Joe train set when I was a kid, but I think it was that same one...pretty much a normal set with tanks, litte men, and the theming.
I had a Unicron prototype from the 80s. I didn't know it until I grew up and found out about it. My uncle worked for Kenner, Hasbro, Tonka, and a couple other toy companies throughout the last 50 years. My aunt knew how much I liked Transformer and gave it to me.
Ed's Retro Geek Out ... i had 3 of those eUnuchtrons too and they were bigger than his and from his Uncle's uncle and they shot out of it double extended rocket firing vinyl caped blue Jewas too... then my mom gave it all to goodwill.
Michael Yater Wellllllllllll ... i had 3 of those eUnuchrons too and they were bigger than his and from your Uncle's uncle's wifes cousin's daughter's husband and they shot out of it double extended rocket firing vinyl caped blue Jewas too right where his robo-dingdong used 2 B ... then my mom gave it all to goodwill.
I recall the G. I Joe Train Set was in the catalog for Sears and I even remembered talking to the hobby shop I went to for my trains and slot car tracks about it and looking forward to it. Wow that was a long time ago.
hah that's funny to spot you, I was just thinking that you might be the one who grabbed up the Gigantisaur and jurassic park prototypes. Check her stash she's hiding them somewhere!
I think the Power Of Grayskull line could've had so much potential...💯✔ I'm a sucker for anything that involves time traveling...👍🏼 It would've made for an awesome show...👌🏼
This video topic is an amazing idea! Not too many videos out there with this particular amount of knowledge and info on unmade toys. The MOTU Power of Grayskull line would be a cool idea for Mattel to revisit at some point.
FINALLY someone talks about Gigantisaur!!!! Thank you!!!!! I emailed with the Toy Hunter years ago and he said he had "found" this and to stay tuned and watch his show. Well. That never happened. I wonder if he actually found one.
I owned the Red Eye Prototype for the Thundercats for a time along with many other prototypes, I had trap jaws as well but never got anything related to the Mad Bubbler. Great video.
Ed's Retro Geek Out yeah, I should have hopefully. I will see what I can find. I may still also have photos of the unproduced visionaries. I had the photography and also the unproduced tank for that line, several others as well.
There was a lights n' sounds toy prototype of the seaquest sub from the show "Seaquest DSV" back in the 90's. The toy was shown at a toy fair but never went into production.
There was one other Unicron prototype out there, a really sweet one made by Takara as part of the Beast Wars Neo line-his robot form was a lot more screen-accurate than the earlier, ganglier prototypes.
The Gigantasaur prototype actually rotted away due to the materials it was made from and was thrown away. This was of course back before something like that could be auctioned off and potentially reproduced for preservation.
Nice Video. As for G.I.JOE, there was planed a Joe Figur named Rocky Balboa, but in the last minute Stallone give not the licence and produced the Rambo Toyline after the Rambo Cartoon. Canceled, planed and prototype toys are always interessting to see.

Hey, Ever heard of Thunderbirds 2086? It was an early 80's cartoon, and an American adaptation of a Japanese anime called Techno-Boyager(?) It featured super vehicles that combined, a Shuttle, a Rocket, and a Land Vehicle. (Thunderbirds 1-3 respectively) The cartoon also featured a yellow submarine as the Thunderbird 4, though I don't know if they planned a toy for that, but there are images out there from a Japanese Toy Fair of a finished prototype, however it was never put into production. I really liked this video and hope to see more!
I think that little orange ghost came in the Real Ghostbusters Ectoplasm slime or something. I definitely had it, right up until I sold all my RGB figures a few years ago.
Cool Video Just a note about the Jurassic Park figure, Toy Hunter found two prototypes of this figure on his show, and the are now in a private collection. Keep up the good work Hello from the West Coast of Canada
Gotta love toy history, well produced as always, I hope you get paid for these videos soon man because they’re absolutely quality productions. Keep it up!
Hi Ed, first -time viewer! This got recommended probably coz I've been binge-watching G.I. Joe and Transformers lately and as well as Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, and Masters of the Universe music albums. I see we have two things in common: an original Jurassic Park T-shirt (mine has aged similarly to yours), and the $6,000,000 Man action figure, complete with bionic eye and arm! So, I really love this video, even though I haven't collected a single toy from any of the four TV shows I enjoyed (more of a LEGO guy), but quarantine made me hanker for the glory days of the 80's. I think I'll go for anniversary action figures now.
Very cool video man! That Party Wagon transforming toy would have been awesome. It looks like it was designed to be a giant version of Metal Head, who was one of my favorite characters back in the day. I would have loved this thing as a kid. Gonna subscribe to see more of your stuff!
Awesome history vid of unproduced lines. Thanks Ed. Very entertaining! One that springs to mind is from Kenner's Super Powers toy line from 1984 - 1986. Just to name a few unreleased ones from that line are Catwoman, Man-Bat, Darkseid's Tower of Darkness and Fortress of Solitude. Looking forward to the next one in the series. Great job. Keep it up! Cheers mate :)
Yeah i was gonna keep that one for entire cancelled lines bucky o hare and visionaries had that happen to as well. I do like the super powers line but in europe i hardly ever see any of those 😪 thanks so much for watching I enjoyed making this one
Yes, not easy to find here in Europe. The only one I ever had as a kid was Superman, which we bought when we were in Italy. Nowadays eBay is the best place to get them, and some are pretty expensive. Only 3 more figures to go and I have the entire line loose :)
Just a little correction on the Hasbro Unicron. It's $599, it was a crowd funded figure part of Haslab from last year (not two years ago), and won't be available outside of the Haslab release. You won't see it in stores.
Absolutely fantastic. You had me glued to the screen. I love this stuff. Great research, great history, perfect editing. Ed, for me this is your best vid and as far as i am concerned, this stuff can go to Netflix. Congratulations. Well done!

I was crushed after the 2012 tmnt toyline canceled the biotroid figure. It was the one figure the was the most excited to get. Maybe someday I'll be able to track down the prototype
Great start to the series of unproductive toys. One figure that was produced or being produced was Jenny from Bucky O'Hare. Later on there was a figure released of her from another company.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut oh you're right! I always remember Jenny was the only main character that didn't get a figure but yeah, so much of the line got the ax. That could be a whole episode on its own there.
This is my second video. I love the way you speak! At first I thought I was hearing things but then I realized do you have a very unique way of speaking that is kind of cool. And the way you said that turd Ninja turtle movie, so true even though you didn't mean it that way I bet. LOL
I remember that the Boba Fett with launching missile was released in small numbers through the proof of purchase promotion but was quickly recalled because of the choking hazard. Although I may be wrong about this. It was 40+ years ago and I was just a kid
A similar idea to explore for a video could be about the difference between pre-production paint jobs and the final release as seen on the cardbacks. Notable examples is the Dino-Riders T. rex - vibrant green and orange vs a dull greyish tone in the final and the JP T. rex - screen accurate due to a photo of a cinematic maquette being used on the cross sell images vs the actual red rex (incidentally more accurate to the novel version)
That would indeed be an intersting idea on how the painted prototypes on the boxes of the toys/catalogs would differ from the actual produced ones ... I love dino riders! 😍
I'll never forget not getting the last of the Dino Raiders at the end of the first Jurassic Park toy line. They made 2 of them, but the third never came out.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yeah, I had Dr Snare and Skinner, but Scrap Davis never made it to production even though he was featured on the back of the boxes of the Evil Raiders.
@@EdsRetroGeekOut The Evil Raiders were part of the 2nd series from the first Jurassic Park line. They came out at the very end of the line and where original creations. Hey Ed nice job I think you should call this series of videos "Ed's retro Rarities" (unreleased toys from vintage lines) Keep up the fantastic work with channel!
There are a bunch of unproduced gi joes from the movie line. City Strike Scarlett was a proto and some people have them. Theres a melt in the face of the figure because its an unproduced head sculpt of Rachel Nichols. Sometimes people fix it. The figure has gone for over $1000 on ebay
Holy shit I didn't think the mutations Party Wagon was for the standard line, I thought it was for the mini mutants ( Polly pocket/ mighty max) scale. Total bummer dudes. That would have went great with the large size mega krang. Also I just want to say a HUGE thank you for literally reading the add copy on the backs of the Dino's when describing what PoG was to be in 1987. He-Ro and eldor have been grails for me since the mid 90s. I'm glad Super7 fulfilled a 30 year old promise. Now if we can just get the vintage Star sisters produced! I would love it if Hasbro made Egon's lab for the new Repro Real Ghostbusters. Hopefully the demand is sustained and they will add to the vintage line the way Super7 did with he-ro & eldor for motu!
I hope so too for the egon lab. It’s awesome we got hero and eldor! Thanks so much for watching 🤓🤘 I like all the boxart and texts they made to promote these toys I can’t rewrite it cuz it just wouldn’t be as awesome 🤠
I had some gi joes and transformers that never made it to the stores. But that's cuz we lived in the city next to Hasbro HQ. As kids we'd go dumpster diving and find prototypes they threw away. Had to come up with my own names and back stories for them
So later you mention the boba Fett figure that came out eventually but you never mentioned that they did make a unicron it's even in one of the shots of the prototype one. That unicron was one of my all time favorite toys as a kid. I had so many transformers from the series with the mincons. I loved the little moon one that came with unicron
I am a Transformers collector and to the best of my knowledge there only 3 surving Unicron prototypes , TakaraTomy has one , Hasbro has another and one in is in Private hands and last time that prototype sold it went for in excess of $10,000. The new Unicron is being produced is being put out by Haslab , the same Hasbro run unit that produced the huge Jabba's sail barge.

Hey Ed nice job I think you should call this series of videos "Ed's retro Rarities" (unreleased toys from vintage lines) Keep up the fantastic work with channel!
Retro rarities has a nice ring 😏! Thanks so much!
great video man, I just had to subscribe!!!!
Thank you 🤓
There is a third Unicron prototype that's a an odd translucent white. You can find find photos of it online from a Takara catalogue.
Great videos keep them coming!!
Thanks 🤓
There are a bunch of unproduced gi joes from the movie line. City Strike Scarlett was a proto and some people have them. Theres a melt in the face of the figure because its an unproduced head sculpt of Rachel Nichols. Sometimes people fix it. The figure has gone for over $1000 on ebay
So cool to hear all these unproduced ones exist 🤠
Awesome vid as always dude
Thanks buddy 🤓
I'm female and was stereo-typically so as a kid, but that Gi-Joe train is the COOLEST TOY I HAVE EVER SEEN.
It’s pretty awesome indeed 😄🤘
I've always wanted to see a cobra Helicarrier they never made one.
🤔 could they have repainted an existing helicopter in the line?
Thanks so much for watching 🤓🤘
I like all the boxart and texts they made to promote these toys I can’t rewrite it cuz it just wouldn’t be as awesome 🤠
Tundercats Ho 😆 Love the channel, great vid. i been looking at getting 1 of those egons labs from thr rgb line
I want one too but doesn’t seem like they’re available anymore
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Thats a shame, would be great to get one :)
I had some gi joes and transformers that never made it to the stores. But that's cuz we lived in the city next to Hasbro HQ. As kids we'd go dumpster diving and find prototypes they threw away. Had to come up with my own names and back stories for them
🤩 awesome
I remember that masters of the universe dinosaur it was actually sold at Toys r us in Clearwater Florida.
They had the dinosaurs but the brachio was never produced
So later you mention the boba Fett figure that came out eventually but you never mentioned that they did make a unicron it's even in one of the shots of the prototype one. That unicron was one of my all time favorite toys as a kid. I had so many transformers from the series with the mincons. I loved the little moon one that came with unicron
They made a unicron but not in the g1 line, it was the beast wars and a 2000’s line 🤓
I rarely write any comments on any video on RUclips but after watching this u gave me no choice. Great content and very interesting. Greetings from Cyprus.
Thanks so much for commenting 🤓👌 i really appreciate it Antonis
Awesome Video...Thx ya soo much✊✌
Thanks Lars 🤓
I'm 37 I still want Unicron and fortrus maximus .there's bigger though it's a navy battle ship or something.
Just catching up now! Great stuff mate!
Thanka buddy 🤠🤘
This wasn't click bait I'm impressed
Thanks for watching 🤓
If you are interested in more info on this topic, I've got a book suggestion for you ---> facebook.com/toysthattimeforgot
I’ve been trying to buy that book but it seems to be out of print 🤯
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Volume 1, yes... for now. Volume 2, no. Still available!
They should produce all of these now there amazing
We missed out on some pretty cool ones 🤓🤘
There are some unproduced street sharks figures I believe, El Swordo and Clammando
Yeah I had noticed that as well they look pretty nice 🤠
I will always pine for the unproduced Xevoz figues, especially the magma elemental Rocka Huna.
Cool 🤘
Great video man!
Thanks so much David 🤓
