Thanks mate. I have been doing markets every weekend for 3 months. Have been growing and developing and learning so much. It is a valuable experience. I offer print, printing and mini photoshoots of people and dogs.
We did 110 juried artshows - won 50 best of show or photography awards- we have a few framed but 95% are prints- customers decor varies so there ok with them getting to frame it and it keeps are cost way down- good luck!!
First time I've seen a video on selling prints via a market, I wish I had the confidence like you to do this. I have wanted to do what what you have done but I don't think the photos I do are good enough, but I'm sort of semi retired due to health (dodgy knee) so hopefully I can spend more time getting out and doing more photography especially while I'm down our caravan in west Wales. Keep up the great work Paidi. Steve Hassall Great(ish) Britain
Thanks for watching Stephen! The confidence to do this definitely goes back and fourth, the first few times we’re definitely quite scary. I think if this is something you want to have a go at I can’t recommend it enough (I definitely get the feeling that my photos aren’t good enough either so try not to let yourself take that little voice in your head too seriously)
You got to change your views on how you're viewing your work you gotta have more confidence and yourself because then it turns into a habit. And habits are very hard to get rid of. Because you got the gift and a skill to be creative and it's just not something that people can get just by chance and you have that remember that. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. But change your mind set and things will change for you...
Good luck with your markets this year Paidi. i've done a few small 1 day pop ups and as you mentioned, its great to show people your work in print and for them to look at it and discuss with you etc.
Nice video, Paidi. I used to do the markets and it went pretty much exactly as you've described. I knocked it on the head a few years ago because the ratio of effort to profit just wasn't worth it. When you add up the costs of the market insurance, your stall's furniture, the cost of the stall hire, getting stuff printed and framed and then of course the time cost - an entire day spent in a community hall or show ground - it just didn't make any sense to me. It always went better at the pre-xmas markets and if I could have sold calendars year-round at the rate they went in the two months prior to xmas I could retire - but unfortunately that's not the case. But cheers for the video, I think I'll do a video about why I packed the markets in :)
Thank you Paidi. I love your honesty and integrity. I would buy your photos instantly if I lived in your country and area! I was looking at selling my art prints at markets and I'm glad I came across your video. Thanks so much.
The problem is that a print is a discretionary purchase and such spending is getting hammered by inflation and energy costs. I'm unconvinced that having a market stall with all the time and money that involves is actually cost effective. But I'd love to be proved wrong.
Thanks for your comment, I’m definitely not qualified to discuss things like inflation or energy costs, but as I said in the video for me doing market stalls is something I find rewarding and fuels my passion for photography, and not something I do with the idea of financial gain. You’re right in saying that there is certainly time and money involved in doing something like this, but really the same could be said for any creative endeavour
Yeah, I should definitely give it a try. Been thinking about it for some time but it's always looked like a pricey thing to do. Both in time and money. Ih and I don't have a car, so there's only so much I can carry... Guess I could rent one but I hate driving here. Anyway thanks for the video. That might have been the kick I needed.
Thanks for watching Thomas! Yeah there’s definitely a lot of stress in having to invest money in doing something like this. My biggest tip for that would be try to accept that the first few times you do it your stall might not be perfect or exactly how you’d like it, but you can continue to upgrade your setup over time if it’s something you’re enjoying
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Just Subscribed. Always like to support local talent. Love my landscape photography. Like the other comments here I too feel my work isn’t good enough. So we’ll done to you to get the courage to get out there.
Thanks for watching Nick! Glad you got something out of the video! If it’s something you’re thinking about I’d definitely say give it a go, the majority of people you’ll meet a market end up being super encouraging and supportive
Great video as always Paidi!!
Thanks heaps dude!
The print’s all yours if you’d like it mate! Send me a DM on insta and I’ll get it sorted
Yapping to people is half the fun. I haven't done markets for over 20 years but am planning to get back into them.
Couldn’t agree more! Goodluck with it! Looking forward to summer to get back to them myself as well

Thanks for watching Theus! Doing them every weekend is awesome, good on you! Sounds like you’ve got a great stall

Thanks heaps!
Great video man, hoping to take my images to market this year. Where do you get your prints done? Do you have a local print shop you use?

An interesting video mate, I've often thought about selling prints on a market stall. Good to get an insight into it.
Thanks very much Chris! Glad I could provide a bit of insight! Would definitely recommend it if you’re thinking about it
Great video mate, I agree with the sentiment about it doesn't matter what people buy, its about the feeling 100%
Thanks heaps Matt! It’s definitely a great feeling
Great Video , thinking of doing markets in the UK - so good to watch something a bit different. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching Mark!
It’s a great experience so if you do go ahead with it all the best to you!
