- Imagine San Francisco owning its power system. It almost happened 100 years ago. Now there is a push to finish what the city started and save customers money by purchasing PG&E's grid. abc7ne.ws/3RclL0b

Need to get rid of PGE
Utilities companies should be owned and run by the state as non profit. This is the case in many countries. Private companies always find ways to raise prices to make themselves rich, including bribing the regulators to sway their way.
PG&E is horrible!
Their negligence is criminal. How nobody as gone to jail is unbelievable and a huge example of the California government’s failures.
California government because this monopoly is in California yes. But it’s the same unregulated American capitalism (leading to monopoly rule) as in any other state. Anyone who somewhat knows American history can see that
@@nevermind342 of course you can have this anywhere the government is inept.
Nowadays, Los Angeles and Sacramento generate their own power. I once lived in Sacramento, and I was much happier with the local power company (SMUD) than I am with PG&E.
So does Roseville. I have Roseville Electric.
PG&E probably came running when they heard Nikola Tesla was in SF figuring out some crazy technology 😂
I have lived in Roseville for about 7 years now. We have our own power grid for our electricity. Our power has not gone out one time since I have lived here! I used to live in the Nevada City/Grass Valley area and sometimes our power would go out for 4 days during heavy snow events. I am so grateful I do not have PG&E for my electricity anymore!
It’s the same idea that many cities have taken over ISPs. Nearly all of those cities have seen better service, lower rates and better representation of local money.
PG&E and many ISPs should be dissolved. At least we can vote out local reps for utilities when they fail.
^ clearly someone who has never lived with city managed internet
Corruption? In San Francisco? I am shocked. Simply shocked.
Gavin should have done this state wide, he talks a good game but failed to put on the Socialist Big Boy Pants when the opportunity was ripe. Let's hope San Francisco does not back down. I'm no Socialist, but essential services like electricity should not be in the hands of private enterprise.
Gavin Newsom is a canny politician, and knows it's better to have someone else to blame when something goes wrong.
PG$E monopoly needs to be broken up now.
Pigs Goats and Elephants zoo needs to go.
New to California. Why does PGE have a monopoly?
Cancel PGE! Crooks!
I would very much support a state-owned utility. Why should public services be privately run?
The government should supply all essential needs
I disagree, free-markets cab supply most everything more efficiently than a government.
PGnE though is an artifical monopoly. If cities amongst the bay area each had their own power grid, it would increase competition amongst municipalities rather than a single artifical monopoly providing power to most of the bay
@@SecretMountainTrollPG&E is the product of this supposed free market.
A free market with no oversight will only creat monopolies.
Governments provide nothing, the confiscated earnings of the people provide.
this entire issue could have been avoided, if lobbying is illegal!
lobbying is the root cause of greed and corruption in our country and any country that allows lobbying!
👏👏👏 Yes, this!
Get rid of share holders
I can't understand why people don't like Pacific Graft & Extortion...
The City of San Francisco does not possess the competence to manage its own electric power system. Hell, it can't even construct and manage a decent wastewater collection and treatment system.
we already power the entire Muni network and SFO we can do the rest
@@chromebomb😂😂 city of SF competence would make PG&E look like rocket scientist!!!
So according to your example, it was rocket scientists who were convicted of 83 felony murders for failing to properly maintain their equipment sparking the 2018 Camp Fire? Did those same geniuses have anything to do with the San Bruno gas pipe explosion? 2017 North Bay Fires, Dixie Fire, Kincade Fire and the list goes on.
So anyways we woke up on Monday and started building our own grids
Get them out of here
Being responsible and city of San Francisco don't belong in the same sentence
Does the city have a department to handle the maintenance and up keep with an electric system? If this would to happen get ready for a complete poop show while the city figures out how to run the Electric system accordingly!
My great grandfather was managing 3 offshore oil tankers for pacific oil 100 years ago.
Wow. Want a cookie?
@@MrMountain707 is San Francisco also giving away cookies? That’ll go good with the free beers that tax payers buy for homeless people.
Only if you are an illegal.@@giftedgreen2152
LA has DWP. Seems to work well. Rates are a little high from what I hear. I have SoCal Edison. Paid $96 in Feb for a 1500 sq ft house (last bill I can find).
Hell no municipal water is more expensive then electricity.
PUD,s rock
Yes!!!
Don't worry, the officials SF elected will do the right thing
....
And raise the cost of electricity!
Who do you blame for this? Politicians of course!
Electricity should be mostly a government-owned and operated thing. Local governments, state/territorial governments, and the federal government should own all aspects of the electricity business, and no. It should not be on a not-for-profit basis. Here in Canada, our power prices are lower, it's generally a lot cleaner, and the profit generated is used, partially, for our universal healthcare system.
SF cant deal with homeless or criminals like 21,000 smash and grabs a year let alone running a utility power company.
This would be the first thing SF govt. has done right, surely, they wouldn't think of it as another graft opportunity?
Of course PGE is not gonna give it up.
Sometimes the actual buy in to the public utilities is much greater than even the entire listed value of the company. The actual ownership and etc after the buy in is often almost nothing and the actual residual income is so highly taxed and redistribution is often not much for the actual ownership etc.
Though it is also such thing that can be done but due to the redundant effects of the federal government already owning it etc and already owning San Francisco and already funding it all or paying the lions share along with the tax payers it doesn't make sense in a non private business venture for pge or the Fed or the government or the tax payer.
Imagine… what we‘ve happened
At least London Breed couldn't mess it up.
Wont be long until its just P&E.
Look at Travis Kiyota.
Will this be equitable or will it just encourage more capitalists?
santa clara is doing fine
The real problem is welfare institutions vs capitalism.
If the federal government is the main owner and payer then also.the federal government is also the main owner and payer of San Francisco then I think a unequal percent of anything else is to great a step and the real step is a true math calculation of actual true percentage of the rest of the equation etc.
goodbye pge
PIGGY must go!
newsom will never let this happen.
all my homies hate PG&E
SF can’t run anything! 😂
Ya and if they damned that Yosemite like the hutch hutchie Paradise could fit twice as many people. Free showers for the homeless*damn the Yosemite
Not a city but regional--imo Silicon Valley Power should be a model for everyone, my bill is 100s less than PGE now, but I feel like SF can't do it on their own because of their restrictive laws for doing business and how everything gets so complicated and massively overrun.
San Francisco can’t run anything anymore.
I was a PG&E customer for years, and they suck !!!
I would love to get rid of PG&E
But the San Francisco power grid ran by the board of supervisors of San Francisco mayor. London bree if you think the corruption and the high rates are bad now, it will definitely be worse after.
San Francisco sold our water rights and we’ve had expensive water ever since then
