My boyfriend used to sing this song for me while holding me and while i had my head lying on his chest, whenever i had anxiety or was feeling sad. I don’t get anxiety attacks anymore, but we are still together - and i know he would still sing to me if i asked him to.
    I love him.

Like my buddy likes to say "if they think I'm going to work the day this great man passes on to the next level, they are sadly mistaken". That about sums my feelings up for the man. Life would have been far less brighter without Bob. So grateful to have been in the room so often witnessing him ply his craft. It's going to be a sad, sad day. I can't imagine living in a world without Bob Dylan, but suppose he will always be here with his music and words. "It's not dark yet, but it's gettin there"

I have always thought that this song was an original song by Adele.
The lyrics is so poetic. I can just sense so much love when the writer was writing it.

Billy Joel released the first version in 1997 about a month before Bob Dylan released this one. I've also heard it covered by an Irish singer named Mary Black.
I think it's a song that sounds better with a female singer.

I am 70 years old. When I was at school my English master allowed me to debate the merits of Dylan's lyrics in class. He did concede that His Bobness could turn a phrase or few, but, overall, he remained unimpressed.

    • @ericlind6581

John Arwine It was a different time then when there was no music video and the focus was more about the music. Now it’s style over substance. Sting once said that he didn’t think he would be a rock star in today’s day and age. Probably true for lots of successful artist back then as they didn’t have the right “look”. I went to see the Eagles in concert for example and the whole concert was a bunch of guys just playing and singing, no dancing, no stage show...boring by today’s standards but the music and artistry was incredible!

Having only heard of this song from Garth Brooks and Adele and then hearing Bob Dylan's version for the first time is sublime. The guitar parts waver on the edge of out of tune and his voice is so unique. He sings the lyrics in a way that feels spontaneous, as if he found the words while waiting in line at the grocery check out. So cool!

I think the total presentation of Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love" is so unique that any cover done of the song really does not do it justice. Even though the covers are vocally good, they lack the passion that Dylan put into all his music, particularly this song. They are what they are, imitations. The original version literally gives you chills because you know he feels every word he is singing and makes you feel it too.

Not gonna lie, I thought it was an Adele original for so many years and I loved her version, I always will even though this original edges it. But how I found out that Adele's wasn't the original version was through a cover done by a South African Idols contestant named Thami Shobede, live on the competition. I may be a little bias, but that's my personal favourite

What a common mantra. Get over his voice. He has felt and written things that most humans will ever know. People who are hung up about his voice worship the god of the superficial, vacuous, ignorant----they are hung up on themselves. Get down on your knees and pray for God to remove that from your heart. A diamond is precious and valuable whether it has been cut in the style that you desire.

When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love
When the evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one there to dry your tears
Oh, I hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love
I know you haven't made your mind up yet
But I will never do you wrong
I've known it from the moment that we met
No doubt in my mind where you belong
I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue
And I'd go crawling down the avenue
    No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love
The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing like me yet
I could make you happy, make your dreams come true
    There's nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends of this Earth for you
To make you feel my love, oh yes
To make you feel my love

Very few people write a song of a life time. I’m talking a song that people will remember for their whole life. A song that people play at important events in their life weddings, funerals etc. Bob Dylan has hundreds of said songs. He is the most important person in music to ever live. Well maybe Woody Guthrie is because with out woody their is no Bob Dylan the way we know Bob Dylan.

Yeah Philip, like Bill Murray said in 'Groundhog Day'..." I'm A god...not THE God." Dylan's voice has had quite a life. In this song, the richness of feel is as real as it gets. From his first album, Bob has always been as real as it gets whether you like it or not. I like it.

    • @petratical

Right, isn't God, but he believed in God before he wrote this song and Dylan may have written this song from the perspective of Jesus Christ, telling sinners that they can both know and feel his redemptive love. Yes, Bob became a Christian about 20 years before writing this song, and others like; "Gonna have to serve somebody" - www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=gonna+have+to+serve+somebody
One of the verse's, “I could hold you for a million years” is something only God could do. Another verse, “I'd go hungry” was when he fasted 40 day’s
Still another; “I’d go black and blue,…crawling down the avenue” can be from carrying a heavy cross he was to be crucified with, down the avenue called, "The Via Dolorosa", Latin for "Sorrowful Way", and he made it "all the way", for you (as Dylan say;s) "to feel my love"
Then last, but not least; “Go to the ends of the earth for you”, as when Jesus told us to go into all the world and preach this good news, John 3:16.

There is no God. All we have is a short 80 years (if lucky). Better not spend countless hours on ancient writers from the year 200 AD, when we have geniuses like Bob Dylan who put the writers of the Bible to shame. And no stonings or slavery or smiting when we focus on songs :)

I so prefer his version to Adeles he is so sincere. I don't understand people complaining about his voice or saying he isn't a singer. His voice is distinctive and that thing he is doing with the words set to music is the definition of singing. I have seen him live also it was a concert he sang and played guitar he is a musician for those of you that do not understand he writes the songs too if any of you can imagine such a concept.
