@@The_thumbIf the doctor is telling you that the other option is safer then the mother is justified in her fears, at the end of the day it's the patients choice but the mother is right to be concerned and fear the daughter having a far worse quality of life. At the end of the day living with tourettes has a lower impact on life possibilities than paralysis would.

      @blackmanta66 21 день назад +20

@@kookou13 that ignores the magnitude of suffering, many people are able to live somewhat regular lives, getting jobs and pursuing their talents, the risk of paralysis could lead to a 50% of drastically increasing the suffering where she can no longer work a job or have independence when she is older. It's a far more difficult decision than you make it seem. You can also argue that the mother will be hated by the daughter for denying the surgery but the daughter may also become resentful if the surgery is unsuccessful. Overall it is a very individual decision which can only be made with information that we do not have.

so basically the gamma knife thing is much safer than the surgery that will make the girl normal so the mom is like do the gamma thing and the girl starts crying. some bullies at school were making fun of the girl so she egged their lockers but she had a seizure and fell or something so thats why she ends up in the hospital and the mom dosent want the girl to go to school. the girl tells this one doctor that the mom is kinda controlling and overprotective and the girl really wants the tumor gone. the mom keeps refusing the normal surgery so the doctor wants the girl to tell her mom how much the surgery would mean but the mom says she already understands but the girl yells that she just wants to boss her around and doesnt even care about her. she says shes angry at everything and feels like a puppet and others are pulling the strings but removing the tumor is the only way for her to gain control over her body. the mom understands and talks to her and she gets the surgery and shes super happy.

Tics from tourettes are not just annoying. They are physically extremely painful. My twin has tourettes syndrome. We had no idea what it was for YEARS because back in late 90s early 2000s it was not as well known. She saw many, many Drs. Got alot of scans at a neurologist. They just assumed it was another symptom from her OCD or ADHD. Took her seeing a Dr who had experience with tourettes to tell her. Was so crazy because that Dr knew right away. Then years and years later it's commonly known! But horrible for her mom to say no.
My sister would take even more of a risk for a chance to not suffer. It's not just the emotional side of bullying and side eyes from people who don't understand/care like I said it's physically painful. She can have so many tics sometimes that parts of her body go numb or hurt so much all she can do is cry. It's embarrassing and painful.
To get people to understand I'm going to share an example of what my sister said. We talked about it a lot over years obviously and I wanted to understand better to help her as I hate watching her suffer. you know that jump you do when you're falling asleep and feel like you're falling? That awful feeling of having no control over your body/muscles? And sometimes the jolt is so hard it almost hurts? Scares you too. That's what tics are like. They suck they can be painful especially if you have hundreds that day, some are harder then others. They can feel them coming on though unlike that falling feeling jump. With tourettes The brain sends a wrong signal, body moves on its own. Yes they can try to stop them but it's hard and they can only hold them back for so long, also doing so will cause them to have a ton of tics at once. Stress also causes more tics.
Best thing you can do if you meet someone with tics is just ignore the tics. Act like they are not happening. Don't bring it up unless you know them well. Talking about them causes stress causing more tics. The kind where you curse is super uncommon. Most have physical tics only, some make noises/grunts them like under 5% of those with tourettes say actual words. Sadly have noticed some fake tourettes for attention. Horrifying and spreads misinformation. Most do NOT say words. Most common kind is like I said physical and audible noises but not words. Wish we had more funding for a cure because people with it suffer so much more then most know.
My sister tried every medication under the sun to help. Sadly only ones that worked are addictive. She didn't want to stay on them because of that. Also because the only dose that actually helped lessen her tics would make her hard to wake up. To the point her daughter could not wake her and thought she had died. Scared the shit out of everyone. So she stopped taking the meds that same day. Marijuana helps SLIGHTLY. She can't smoke though as it's not legal in the state we now live in. When she was able to smoke it did help, and feel a medical dose of the liquid kind would help her enough to live somewhat comfortably. But sadly once again not legal yet. Truly hope it is soon for her sake and others like her who need medicinal marijuana.
I tried to explain best I could how much it sucks. I have watched her break down so many times, some days literally begging for death because her tourettes are so bad that day. But I suck at explaining things, regardless had to say something after seeing this video.
I'm glad we have gotten to a point most know what it is, I truly hope that means we will have a cure one day. Donate to science and the study for a cure if you can! ❤

One is less risky and will help with the seizures but she will still experience symptoms similar to what she already has. The other will get rid of the symptoms but is far riskier with the risks including stroke and partial paralysis. The girl is being short sided, she wants the seizures to stop and be "normal" but isn't thinking about the risks and what being paralyzed might do.

of course I will be in position of “let kid decide”. What is more: I would even let kid refuse medical treatment their parents want. I would love to have this right as a kid, it would made my own life so much easier. After turning 18 my first decision was to stop treating my stupid dandruff and to start medication for ADHD. I lost so much opportunities for not treating ADHD, wasted so much time on treating dandruff, and damaged my general health by antibiotics for dandruff (becoming nothing else worked). it was 11 years ago. I still have dandruff and it didn’t affect my life in any way, I even found myself way to minimally it (aleppo soap). My body didn’t 100% recovered from dandruff treatment damage. My career is affected by late start of medication for health issue that was real struggle.
Kids should have medical autonomy. I didn’t need gender affirming procedures because I am cis, but I am really happy that my sister’s daughter is getting it becoming her mother also beloved in medical autonomy. And I am almost no contact with my mother.

I watched a video a mother made where her son woke up in the middle of being utanised after she told doctors to pull the plug on him...she makes videos trying to judtify such cruelty. He hadnt been brain dead at all like she though, just in a coma because he had been severely burnt and the real truth was she probably couldnt bring to live with how drastically his face had changed. Pure evil parents out there. Despite him waking up she still told the doctors to continue with the procedure instead of stopping it.

⚖️ tumor that could become maglinant and kill her (and given it was in her brain, it couldve been a very painful death), or removing the tumor thatll a) potentially save her life in the long run and b) give this teen a normal life? whats more important: the daughter's mental health and life, or keeping the tumor whichll mean the daughter has to rely on mama dearest for longer? ⚖️
the mom is being very selfish out of fear and having that need to hold her children too close that it's suffocating the poor girl 🤨

That literally wasnt the option displayed in the video. It was get the gamma knife, have no seizures anymore but keep the tics or do surgery and possibly get wosmrse symptoms.

It is very impressive how the people in the comments seem to be unable to listen to the video to understand that the mom is not refusing for the daughter to get treatment. The issue is which one. The risky one or the safer one. I swear you guys have no comprehension whatsoever.

😮 The Good Doctor is a series about an autistic savant who is an exceptional surgeon and diagnostician, based on a real person. It was a great show that had it's series finale this year.

There was a dude with Tourette’s at my school and everyone loved him to death
I got to take a trip to Ireland with him on it and we had such a fun time
Yes a portion of that time was me supporting him as he was prone to fainting but he was so full of joy me and many other couldn’t help enjoying his company
He also knew how to breakdance and would tear up the floor at homecoming
