Silly! This is super common in women regardless of their sexual activity or lack thereof. Also, doesn’t typically need surgery- usually they just lance it and give you antibiotics and send you on your way. AND, I would never wish this on my enemy- it’s a literal pain in the ass. And when you are in so much pain, shame doesn’t matter… just having a doctor with good bedside matter makes the difference.
When he lanced mine the local numbing shot failed because it got absorbed into the cyst. So I felt everything when he made the cut. Id already been in so much pain for days that I just let him continue because end was at least in sight.

i got this at 17. it was the most painful thing i’ve experienced apart from iud removal. i was ashamed for a few days given i thought something was wrong or if caught something. i wasn’t raised to feel safe. but my foster mom who i lived with them noticed i was in pain and immediately took me in and assured me i can always tell her. no surgery, just lanced it and gave me a drain with some meds. came back once but been fine ever since. i wish it on no one!! and if it does happen seek help as soon as possible! it’s not your fault.

I guess I am just old, but the 30 days is not "intriguing" when ladies of the night worked in legal brothels in the 1950's/60's they had to be examined every month and had a card that meant they could not work if there were any "health issues".

Men tend to know the female anatomy a bit better and notice I say men. They are fragile compared to us and knowing how your wife/daughters body works could be a useful tool in helping them in pregnancy injury etc

Sooo. An infection in the Bartholin Gland can happen to any woman and it isnt really usually due to an STD. It can happen to women who have never been active and it also pretty often can happen to women when they are pregnant. The pain is hard to describe but a nurse once told me that she had a bartholin gland abscess while pregnant and she compared it to the ring of fire in childbirth only in childbirth the ring of fire is only when baby crowns until baby is out and with an abscess it last days.
For me it felt like a knife stabbing me that I couldnt pull out and when the doctor drained in the local anesthetic was absorbed into the cyst sooo it was ineffective. I felt him cutting me full force but by that time had already been in so much pain for more than 48 hours that the cutting at least meant end of pain was in sight.
My mother had one of these as a teenager, the pain was so bad she thought she was dying and to top it off the absolute butcher that treated her didn't bother with anesthesia because he thought she had an STD and told her as much. She was terrified of gynecologists after that and didn't see one until she got married

Bad part is the fact that once you get one they have a good chance of happening again. Ive had it 3 times and have said one more time and Ill have both those glands removed entirely.
@@ClaireGreen-wd2gm unfortunately not particularly uncommon; this was during the Francoist dictatorship, which is why that accusation also came with the "punishment" of no anesthetic and why anything and everything happening to a woman in her private areas was immediately assumed to be her fault. It did in fact happen to her a second time, fortunately when the dictatorship was already over. She was in college by then and my grandmother had to drag her kicking and screaming to have it drained.

Searched for this comment! I had this five times in three years! Ended up getting rid of the whole gland in the end. The first two times I couldn't sit or walk without horrible pain. I don't understand why they get this in context with STD, cancer is way more common with cysts. I have a hard time going to my gynecologist since all the trouble it gave me.
@@Tokaier it's actually because of the way the clip is cut. They don't think the Bartholin gland abscess is due to an STD, they just know she has a boil in her private area and so they're trying to reassure her that if it's due to a STD, it's not something to be ashamed of and they can treat her. Then the diagnosis ends up being the abscess.

I had a bartohlin cycst and I used magnesium sulphate paste and gaze to get it to pop and heal it up. No surgery needed. 🤷♀️
May I ask what gaze, is? Also, how would an external paste, pop a cyst? I hope my questions are not too invasive, or come across rude. I am genuinely asking out of ignorance and curiosity. @@susyh1486except that this type of cyst is more like an abscess than a cyst and magnesium sulphate paste acts like drawing salve. So it causes it to rupture and drain by drawing out the infection inside.

She had a bartholin cyst, or like Shaun said, a bartholin gland abcess. I've had this 5 times. The first 3 I had surgery performed on me, and the last two have popped on their own overnight while I slept. I know she is just acting, but the pain is so much worse than how she is portraying it. I had missed an entire week because I couldn't sit down or walk.
I'm doing much better now, but this is the first time I've ever seen a medical show even mentioned this kind of thing. I need to watch it asap!!

Honestly, the fact that they aren't weird about her "career" is kinda nice. They're not super judgemental. At least from what I see in the clip
They were in fact not weird about it throughout the episode! If anything, they were more concerned about why a girl at her age would participate in such a job, but that's worry and not judgement. They also made sure to offer several options during the surgery as on whether she'd rather lose feelings in her genitals or her thigh, taking her job into consideration. Very cool show
